Perks for the Parents

This bohemian and stylish 3-bedroom house is in the heart of Jericho, close the city center, and includes a lovely small garden and pretty living spaces. Set up with a kitchen, dining area and lounge downstairs, and bedrooms upstairs, it is a classic Victorian terraced house in a great part of the city, full of pubs, colleges and quaint streets. Port Meadow nearby is a great space for a walk and a drink in its pub, The Perch.

Why Kids Love it

With space to play and 3 bedrooms, the home suits a small family especially with young children. The location is great for discovering Oxford’s highly interactive and captivating museums, including the Natural History/Pitt Rivers Museums, full of touchable animals, dinosaurs and world artefacts. There is an ice cream shop, G&Ds, a few streets away and plenty of places to shop in the nearby streets.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. The house is set over 2 floors and has ungated stairs. Car rental not necessary in this highly walkable city; parking is expensive and difficult in most of the city. The garden is fully enclosed. A babysitter can be recommended and plenty of babycare items can be provided including a baby bath, change table, high chair and children’s dinnerware. Pets are welcome (please ask first). Bikes are available to borrow; the city is great for cycling. The nearest university college is Somerville College, on Woodstock Road/Little Clarendon Street.

About the Location

The residence is in the highly desirable Jericho area of north-central Oxford, a 10-15 minute walk from the high street with cafés, pubs and restaurants on nearby Walton and Little Clarendon Streets. The location is good for central Oxford, with the University Parks, Natural History/Pitt Rivers Museum a short walk in one direction and the green space of Port Meadow in another. Oxford Station is a 10-15 minute walk/7-minute taxi ride away. The nearest international airport is Heathrow, just under an hour away.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom Victorian property has a large kitchen and dining area plus a lounge on the ground floor with a single sofa bed. There are 3 bedrooms and a large family bathroom upstairs. The bedrooms include 1 with kingsize bed, 1 with queensize bed and 1 with full/double bed. A crib is also available. The family bathroom includes a bathtub. There is also a small lawned garden with seating area.

Style Notes

Modern bohemian. This colorful and welcoming family home includes items from around the world: a wickerwork heart hanging on the wall, an Indian tapestry used as a headboard, and turquoise and blue paisley tiles used as a splashback in the kitchen. We love the light in the lower floor, the pretty Japanese-inspired wallpaper in the dining area, and the white, bright bedrooms.

StayBeyond was born out the simple idea of finding perfect locations to bring families together to enjoy precious holiday time. Hotels, while offering up five-star luxury, separates families. Separate rooms with separate keys. Rooms on different floors. Breakfasts at different times. And having to organise a time to meet in the lobby… What a family holiday needs is a family home. We wanted to create a holiday experience the whole family can be part of; the freedom to have breakfast together in your pyjamas, cosy nights spent in front of the fire, and drinks in the garden while the children play on the lawn. StayBeyond want these special moments to be part of every holiday experience, without having to compromise on the creature comforts and little luxuries that come with the hotel stay. Whether your family is just a pair, or includes Great Auntie Marge and the family dog, we hope you wake up feeling at home, surround by those that mean the most.

Oxford, England

Dreaming spires and dinosaur bones

Oxford is one of the best places to inspire the kids - and maybe not for the reasons you think. While it is a place of academic excellence with inspiring architecture and culture-packed streets (as featured in Harry Potter), littles may well prefer the dino bones in the Natural History Museum, a more compact and user-friendly version of the London establishment, the shrunken heads and world treasures in the Pitt Rivers Museum and the truly wonderful Story Museum, with tale-telling on giant beds and its very own Narnia room. Wander the meadows that inspired Alice in Wonderland, watch chamber music concerts and don’t miss the city’s best ice cream café, G&Ds.
