Perks for the Parents

Bright, light and spacious, this family apartment in the Plantage area has river views, a deck filled with flowers and beautiful design throughout. Highlights include a master bedroom with kingsize bed, a spa-style bathroom with beautiful sinks, and a family-friendly well-equipped kitchen. There is plenty of room for the kids to play and the terrace is a relaxing space, day and evening, amid the pots of flowers.

Why Kids Love it

This apartment is in a great neighborhood, walking distance to some of the city’s most child-friendly attractions. It includes plenty for babies, young children and those up to age 6: Playmobil, Lego, trains, dolls and drawing materials, plus books. A high chair and crib are included. There is a play space outside for kids including a play house; the main children’s bedroom has a bunk bed and a junior bed.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. The apartment is child-friendly but is accessed via stairs. It is on the first floor with no elevator. There are stair gates inside the apartment itself. There is paid parking only in the neighborhood; car rental is not essential in this part of Amsterdam with reliable public transport options.

About the Location

The residence is in the Plantage area of Amsterdam, a central, walkable area close to the boutique shopping street Utrechtsestraat, many playgrounds and parks and the zoo. It is highly walkable. There is a subway station very close by and bike rental around the corner. Schiphol airport is 25-30 minutes away by car.

Accommodation Details

This 2-floor spacious apartment has a first floor with fully equipped eat-in kitchen and doors to the terrace, and a living room with an Amstel River view. There are 2 double sofa beds in the lounge. The upper floor has a master bedroom with connecting bathroom, kids bedroom with bunkbed and junior bed, and a baby bedroom with crib and facilities. There is a big terrace with sofa and dining area.

Style Notes

Modern bohemian. The apartment is bright, light and spacious, and peppered with design details. The owners kept a lot of original details from the house in 1912, like folding doors and the kitchen cupboard, and added luxurious touches including the spa bathroom. Walls are kept bright white while windows in the master bedroom and lounge showcase the Amstel River. We love the Moroccan lighting, the stone sinks and the library-style ladder on the large lounge bookcase.

We are a family of five living in the heart of Amsterdam, our favorite city together with New York. We are lucky to have kids who love traveling as much as we do. We love to share our beautiful home in Amsterdam when we are traveling. It's such a pity if it is not used!

Our family stayed at the Amstel residence and loved it! We were making a last minute booking in Amsterdam and having trouble finding availability. Kid and Coe reached out to Jeanette and her home was available. Upon arriving we learned her baby was ill but she still took the time to show us around and even had left cookies for the kids and champagne for the adults! We loved the location of this property with views of the Amstel River. There were lots of toys for my younger kids to play with. The neighborhood was great for cafes and restaurants. We have 4 kids all under the age of 10 and we're able to walk everywhere including to NEMO, Vondelpark and Anne Franks House. The metro stop and trams were also very close if you don't want to walk. We originally weren't planning to visit Amsterdam on our Europe trip but are so glad we did! We will definitely be coming back here for another visit!

Plantage, Amsterdam

The cultural heart of the city

Right in the heart of the city, beside the zoo, canals and key cultural attractions, Plantage is a great place to stay as a family. With museums and public transport all a short walk from your doorstep, along with major shopping streets, dining options and parks, everything is easy. Don’t miss playing in the water in the new public square beside the zoo, lounging on the grass beside the canals in summer, and the many canal-side cafés and bars.
