This charming, fun-filled family house in the east of the city is on a car-free street with plenty for kids nearby, including the zoo and many playgrounds. The house, street and neighbourhood are family-friendly. Plenty of items for younger children are provided including high chairs, a crib and a toddler bed, as well as toys, bicycles and scooters. The house is fairly central in a peaceful and residential area with museums and landmarks a 10-15 minute walk away. The area has plenty of dining options with cafés and restaurants offering a wide range of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Famous areas nearby for nightlife include the popular Rembrandtplein and trendy Nieuwmarkt. There are more quiet and upmarket options along the Amstel River.

Why Kids Love it

Kids very much enjoy the upper floor of the house, laid out as a play/ sleeping room; smaller kids can also sleep on the downstairs floor as required. The residence has plenty of toys and books, bicycles, scooters and other equipment available, as well as zoo entrance cards. Besides the zoo there are over 3 playgrounds less than 2 minutes’ walk away. The street / terrace in front is a free and safe area to play with no traffic. The entire house, but particularly the upper floor, is entirely designed so kids can be playful and creative and enjoy their stay. Note that the children's bed is a raised loft bed, ideal for age 6+. Two cribs are available for younger children.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. The house has 3 floors and stair gates. A crib and an extra travel cot are available on request; other baby/toddler equipment (stroller, high chairs) and toys are provided. Please check with the host if you have specific needs. Other supplies like a washing machine and dryer and hair dryer are also available upon request. A large supermarket is a 5-minute walk away, and the University of Amsterdam is very close by, giving the area a youthful vibe.

Style Notes

Modern, clean, fresh and bright. This spacious architect-designed house has been inspired by modern constructions as well as feng-shui and considers light and play in modern urban life. Each floor has high ceilings, and provides space to a unique floor with personal notes. It is cozy and sophisticated. The apartment has playful colour accents, particularly in the kids rooms / upper floor. We love the large lounge and spacious kitchen, and the unique art on the walls.

Together with my 3-year old daughter Bowie, I explore planet earth, discover new places, connect with diverse cultures and meet amazing and inspiring people all over the world. I am an International Development Specialist, promoting Girls' and Women's Rights and recently have become an advocate and impact manager on improving Labour Conditions in the garment sector; promoting Fair Wear. As people welcome us to their houses and lives, we also love to meet and host guests in our house and neighbourhood in Amsterdam. We are open for both exchanges as well as renting or hosting.

We had a wonderful time at the house. Manu made us feel very we,come and the location was ideal for the five of us. The kids really enjoyed the house - especially the platform bed! Really great place and an ideal place to explore Amsterdam from.

We had a wonderful time in Manu's home in Amsterdam. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood, away from the major tourist zone, which worked very well for us. We walked or rode the (nearby) tram or subway to all the big attractions, which was super easy. Even with small kids you could walk to Vondelpark in about 30 minutes, or tram there in 10. The house is lovely and has very cool decor, and our daughter loved sleeping in the raised loft bed on the top floor. Our kids also could not get enough of the fun toys, legos, books and bikes that Manu and her daughter kindly left at our disposal. Another great feature of the home is that it has a large open sidewalk running in front, which is closed to traffic. The (warm, friendly) neighbors were often out there enjoying the summer evenings, and it was a great opportunity for our kids to connect with local kids (and for us to connect with local adults!). Numerous restaurants and parks (including a small water play area just next to the zoo) are within 5 min walk. Oosterpark, with another play area, is about a 15 min walk. We loved Amsterdam and Manu's home!

Loved the place! Great kitchen, bed and a lot of toys for my toddler to play with. The area is great for families, the street is closed for cars and the kids can play outside. Loved Manu also, she is super friendly and helped us when we needed.

The Kadijk Residence was absolutely perfect for me, my husband, and our 3 year-old daughter. The upstairs living / play area is a dream: comfortable couch, big windows to let the light in, and so many fun toys. The kitchen on the main level was well-equipped with everything we needed and the lower level sleeping area was quiet, dark, and very comfortable. Our daughter loved Bowie's bunkbed and stuffed animals! Manu was a very gracious host and offered great advice for kid-friendly restaurants and things to do in the area. The neighborhood is beautiful, residential, quiet, and in close proximity to the zoo: exactly what we were looking for. Thank you again, Manu! We hope to be back!

Plantage, Amsterdam

The cultural heart of the city

Right in the heart of the city, beside the zoo, canals and key cultural attractions, Plantage is a great place to stay as a family. With museums and public transport all a short walk from your doorstep, along with major shopping streets, dining options and parks, everything is easy. Don’t miss playing in the water in the new public square beside the zoo, lounging on the grass beside the canals in summer, and the many canal-side cafés and bars.
