Set in a peaceful, family-friendly neighborhood, there is little traffic and most kids run freely during the day. The house is built for a family, with plenty of open space and easy indoor/outdoor access. Ample parking and an attached garage make day trips with kids easy. The back gardens have a stone patio with a grill, fire pit, and outdoor furniture for warm weather meals, while the breakfast deck off the kitchen is a great place to relax and watch the kids play. Portland, with its incredible restaurants and shopping, is a 10-minute drive away.

There is also a nursery bedroom with a crib. The garage has bicycles, scooters and beach toys at the ready. The location is easy for family adventures: the house is a short walk to a private neighborhood beach, and Fort Williams, with its famous lighthouse, wide open spaces and wonderful playground, is a 12-minute walk. For older children, the neighborhood is safe for independent exploring. Across the street is the Greenbelt with miles of groomed trails for walking and hiking.

Fort Williams, with baseball fields, playgrounds, ocean-front swings and the famous Portland Headlight, is just a half mile down the road. Several small grocers and bakeries are within walking or biking distance. The house is a 15-minute drive from the Portland airport and a 2-hour drive from Boston Logan International Airport.

This coastal cottage has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom has a queensize bed and a walk-in closet. A nursery is set up with a crib, organic mattress and a comfortable chair for reading or nursing. The third bedroom has a twin bed (a second twin can be added) and is stocked with toys and books. Style Notes

Modern vintage. This beautiful cottage is bright and airy with large windows overlooking the back gardens. The house is filled with a mix of modern and vintage furnishings, all chosen to work well for adults and kids. Playful artwork is hung throughout the home, with many pieces by local artists, and original wood floors run through the home. The backyard is outfitted with vintage 1970s California lawn furniture–maintained by 3 generations of the same family. We love the easy-going feel, the vintage posters and the marble-topped breakfast bar.

We are a family of four living just outside Portland, Maine. We love it here - the ocean and beaches, the gorgeous woods just out the door, the incredible food in Portland, and the beautiful summers. We also love to travel and explore new places. We are very interested in home exchanges, especially the West coast, NYC and Europe.

Lynsey could not have been a better host. She was lovely and accommodating - really bending over backwards to help with our crazy summer schedule. Her home is so easy. It's airy, it's clean, it's beautifully curated and we can't wait to go back! We packed a fraction of what we normally pack to vacation with our kids because she had it all. I can be a harsh critic since I travel a ton and have become particular about where me and my family stay but this was really just the chill and charming home in Maine that we wanted.

Portland, Maine

Seafood, beaches and outdoor adventures

Fresh seafood, rocky coastlines and outdoor adventures are just some of the things waiting for you in Portland. Maine’s largest city is tucked in the south of the state and has lighthouses to visit, beaches to play on and a vibrant, creative center. Don’t miss the train ride along Casco Bay on an antique narrow gauge train, a ferry trip to Peak’s Island and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, which hosts some lovely family play and discover sessions.
