I live in Portland, Oregon, with my husband and two children. We love to travel, and know that traveling with kids can be a challenge, so I want to make it easier for other families!

We had a wonderful time staying at Sara's house. The house was clean and comfortable and appropriately furnished for active children. The neighborhood was a beautiful spot for walks. The nature park a few blocks away was a huge hit with our kids. Be warned, the playground has a sandy, water area which is really fun but messy. There were books for all ages and enough "new to us" toys to keep the kids busy for the weekend. We really appreciated the air-conditioning for one of the first warm weekends in Portland. We would definitely stay here again.

Portland, Oregon

gorges, galoshes and rose bushes

Located in the Pacific Northwest, Portland has the lockdown on alternative cool. Its rainy season seems to go on for months, but the drizzly days bring azaleas once spring rolls around. And those downpours give you an excuse to while away hours at the Portland Children’s Museum. When the sun comes out, order a scoop at one of the gourmet ice cream shops or splash in a fountain. Public transportation makes it a cinch to zip between neighborhoods, though you’ll need a car to get to prime hiking spots. Head outside of the city to marvel at waterfalls and pick fruit at Sauvie Island Farms.
