This stunning orange residence in an old coconut plantation north of Puerto Vallarta sleeps up to 6 in 3 double bedrooms and is walking distance through tropical gardens to a pristine, untouched beach. It’s a serviced residence with a daily cleaner and cook, allowing you to relax in a hammock, build sand castles and swim in the ocean. Walk on the beach, play in the garden and reconnect with your family, while disconnecting from the fast pace of modern life. Beach toys, boogie boards and buckets and spades are provided and surfboard and kayak hire is nearby; note that otherwise, this residence is secluded and quiet, away from busy tourist areas.

What we love

  • There’s not much in the way of a booming nightlife or restaurant business - and we love it (= more time together to reconnect)
  • It’s a beautiful villa amid palm trees and a tropical garden, just walking distance - barefoot - to the beach
  • The three double bedrooms are airy with tiled floors and crisp linen. Two have king beds and an ensuite bathroom; the other is a queen bed
  • The kids room has a star-patterned headboard and sleeps 1-2
  • There’s outdoor seating and a lounge with board games inside
  • The property comes with a daily cleaner and cook
  • In the summer, sea turtles lay their eggs here. In the winter local conservation allows guests to release baby turtles into the ocean
  • The pool has a shallow end for kids
  • The beach has nothing but waves, sand, swaying palm trees and blue skies

Things to know

  • This residence is bookable Saturday-Saturday for a 7-night stay only
  • There is on-drive car parking if you choose to hire a car to explore the area further - although car hire isn't strictly necessary
  • 80 miles north of Puerta Vallarta airport with an optional shuttle service
  • High chair and Pack'n'Play crib provided
  • The cook (optional) costs $30/day for adults, $10-20 for kids and includes all food costs. You can choose no days, all days or anything inbetween
  • The primary grocery stores - Costco, Walmart and Mega - are in Puerto Vallarta; the staff can shop for fresh local goods for you nearby too
  • Kids need supervision: with the ocean and pool plus ungated stairs in the residence
  • Nearby activities include kayaking, boogie boarding, horseback riding, bird/whale/wildlife watching and massage
  • Kids will probably like it most November to February when the turtles are hatching, but it's quite nice all the way from November through June

The Palmeras residence is paradise if what you are looking for is a quiet and secluded beach. The house is very comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the outdoor terraces and dining room! The onsite personnel is very nice and helpful and the food is delicious! A perfect setting for a perfect vacation! I truly recommend it!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Beaches, color and migrating whales

This Mexican Riviera town is a major attraction on the Pacific Coast, an hour by plane from Mexico City. It's known for its beaches and colourful traditional towns nearby; there's plenty to explore as a family, from horseback riding along the beach to swimming, surfing and waving to the giant humpback whales who swim by each year between December and March.
