Perks for the Parents

This beautifully renovated old farmhouse with a heated pool, 5 minutes from Saint Remy de Provence and Les Baux, has wonderful play spaces for kids and interior design to dream about. It is great for a larger group - with several private areas and terraces plus large comfortable bedrooms. The main house sleeps 12 and the guest house sleeps up to 6 for an additional fee - ideal for nannies. One of the ground floor bedrooms has its own entrance and can also work well for a nanny or au pair. It can also connect to another bedroom for an easy set-up with a baby. All bedrooms have air conditioning (new from 2020). The property is fully enclosed with lots of land for the children to run around (2.5 acres). There is a pretty water stream, an olive grove with over 50 trees, a fish pond, a heated swimming pool with a pool house and an outdoor kitchen. There is also a pretty jogging path directly behind the property.

Why Kids Love it

There is lots of space to play inside and out. Kids can chase butterflies, play football on the pitch, jump in the trampoline, read books (French and English) in one of the hammocks, choose movies from the Apple TV and DVD libraries (English and French) and watch them projected in the cinema room. There's plenty to do including a large trampoline, a proper football (soccer) pitch, and lots of swings and other games to keep the children happy. Saint Remy de Provence alone offers lots of activities from rock climbing to sculpture classes and pretty museums centered on Van Gogh who spent a few years nearby. The house is a 20-minute bike ride to the nearest ice cream parlor and the merry-go-round of Saint Remy.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days, 14 days from June to August. The swimming pool has an automatic safety curtain but is not gated; there is also a small fish pond that is too deep for the very little ones so they should be supervised near it. The stairs to the children’s bedrooms are a little steep. The master bedroom is on the opposite side of the house from the children’s rooms, but a baby monitor works fine and there are bedrooms available closer to them. Maintenance cleaning twice a week is included, and additional cleaning can be arranged with notice. The house’s little black book includes contact details for babysitting, massage, sports coach, yoga teacher, a chef, a driver to go visit the wineries and more.

About the Location

This old farmhouse is 5 minutes by car from Saint-Remy-de-Provence in a rural hamlet with mostly all-year residents - it's around half an hour's walk or 15/20 minutes' bike ride. It is private and safe, with horses and cows grazing in the adjacent fields. The house is equally close to the medieval fortress of Les Baux de Provence, one of France’s most famous villages. The beautiful towns of Arles, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are all less than an hour away, as are the famous vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. Avignon airport is 30 minutes’ drive; Nimes airport is 40 minutes away and Marseilles airport is 1 hour away. Eurostar stops in Avignon, 30 minutes away.

Accommodation Details

There are 6 bedrooms in the main house: 1 primary bedroom with a queensize bed, ensuite bathroom and private terrace at one end of the house. At the opposite end of the house on the ground floor, there are 2 bedrooms with queensize beds and an ensuite shower. On the first floor, a children's bedroom with 2 bunk beds sleeps 4 kids, and a double shower room is shared with a fifth bedroom (which has a queensize bed). On that floor, a sixth bedroom with a queensize bed has its own shower room. The host accepts bookings of up to 12 guests. A toddler rail can be supplied if needed, as well as two portable baby cots. The property has a large living room, a family kitchen, a cinema room, and a garden with heated pool and a pool house. An independent cottage (located 100 meters away from the main house) sleeps up to 6 and is available for an additional fee - check with the hosts for rates. Fully renovated in 2016, it has 2 bedrooms: 1 with a queensize bed and another with 4 single beds, as well as a shared bathroom and a fully-equipped kitchen.

Style Notes

Bohemian chic. The mas is extensively featured in 2 beautiful interiors book: How the French live (USA) and The Art of Simple Living (Australia). The oldest part of the house dates back to 1664 while an architect-designed extension was added in 2014, together with extensive renovations. It is beautiful, with well thought-out touches and a sun-kissed style, making the most of the 4,000q ft of living space (400 sqm). The house is easy going with big couches and comfortable beds, lots of natural light and pretty Provençal views. It is furnished with objects bought at the many antique shops and flea markets in the area, or brought from the hosts’ travels around the world. We love the lounge areas in the gardens, the luxurious bedrooms and the feeling of warmth and relaxation. Photos are by Siham Mazouz.

We are a family of five living in London. My husband is Turkish, I am French and we met in the US. With our children (15, 12 and 8), we jump on every chance to travel the world but we always come back to Provence with a big smile. We love art, design and eating well. Our house reflects our lifestyle. I am a travel designer and travel writer (blog BozAround) and will gladly share all my favorite places in Provence. Our house has been featured in two beautiful interiors books: How the French Live & The Art of Simple Living. Ps: if you stop in Paris, my mother's apartment is listed under Avenue Trudaine. Just saying..:)

Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Provence

Artists, sunshine and good living

Twelve miles south of Avignon, this beautiful Provençal village embodies all that is great about the area; art, good living and sunshine. Vincent Van Gogh lived here for a time; it’s also the birthplace of Nostradamus. Explore the Roman ruins nearby after browsing chocolate shops and playing in rivers beside flower-filled meadows.

We stayed for a week in July 2019. The property is very well maintained with a gardener, pool boy or housekeeper on site most days, but they were all very nice and not intrusive at all, often arriving early in the morning or during the day while we were out. We travelled as a group of three families (6 adults, 2 young children) and had enough space and privacy for everyone. Vanessa was great and easy to reach before our stay and had a fantastic little book of things to do in the area. The house is in a great location close to all the places you want to visit. The caretaker, Alain, was outstanding making sure that everything was OK throughout the week, and was warm and welcoming at our arrival. The house was easy to find with google maps and there was lots of parking. The outdoor area was fantastic, the pool was lovely, with many seating options. My son really enjoyed the fountain and the small frogs that he found sitting along the edge. The ping pong table was lots of fun as was the trampoline. During the beginning of our stay it was unusually hot (35C +) and the bedrooms without air-conditioning were very warm. Alain did provide us with fans so that did help with the heat. The internet only worked in a couple rooms during the week and not at all the first couple of days. That was annoying but we weren't on vacation to spend time on the computer/phone so it was not a huge deal. We had a great week at the Mas de la Roubine and would love to go back and stay again!

We stayed for a week at the mas des verans, we had a really great time. My kids (3 year old twins) had the best time discovering the trampoline and the garden where they could have the imaginary stories unravel in peace while the older kids organized a soccer match. The house is beautiful and cozy, comfortable for all ages! So much to do in the area and in the house, that despite the changing weather we had the best holiday!

This is a really special property and our family of four had a fantastic time here. Vanessa made sure we had everything we needed and the house was perfect for a relaxed break together. The caretaker, and housekeeper, went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Our 4yr old loved the swings, trampoline, soccer field and all the toys. The kitchen was well stocked and inspired us to prepare lots of new dishes during out stay. We loved collecting hazelnuts and herbs from the garden for our meals! Some highlights for us were visiting the weekly St Rémy market, a trip to the nearby Roman ruins and a lovely visit to a local olive oil producer. So much to enjoy in the area and what a boon to have a fantastic organic supermarket nearby! It would be wonderful in summer when you could make proper use of the pool but it was delightful to be here in misty, cosy Autumn weather too.

We adored this house! Vanessa was amazing and communicated with us in the lead up to and during our stay. She was so helpful and sweet, and has created a wonderful, stylish and warm family home. The grounds are amazing - our children never wanted to leave the house and spent hours playing soccer, swimming in the pool and playing board games. The house has wonderful outdoor sitting / lounging areas, and is perfect for one or two families. Vanessa has truly thought of everything and we had a truly magical stay. Thank you so much!

To say this was our best vacation ever is still an understatement. And having a place like The Das De La Roubine to stay was a huge part of our experience. Vanessa and her on site caretaker was incredible. Answering all our questions and helping us with our two week stay here. The housekeeper, although didn't speak English was the kindest woman helping clean up and making our stay effortless. The property itself is beyond perfect. The ascetic and design detail in each and every room was so beautiful. The kitchen was beyond stocked with everything you could ever need. Everything is super easy to understand and follow. The screen projector room is heaven. Not only for the adults to wind down but the kids. Speaking of which! The kids room was so adorable. The double bunk was so fun for the kiddos! They had their own magical place. The bookshelves are stocked with so many books for kiddos and adults. Toys for the kiddos and even plates, lounging, and a kids table outside we used daily. Outside for the kids you had the sea-saw, tire swings, the trampoline, the bikes to ride around the property, the soccer field was so much fun, and endless exploring for my little bug hunter. Oh the Cicada bugs! But what was the most amazing was the pool. I don't think we missed a day swimming! My only sadness was I didn't get to spend more time in their awesome Yoga room! (Btw Vanessa has someone who can come and do yoga with you!) The property is located very close to St Remy where you will find everything you would need. Incredible shops, food, and your local markets. And to venture to other cities was incredibly easy and within 5 min to an hour to get to. We explored so many cities and came back each day to enjoy the property. Vanessa gives you such a well thought out and incredibly detailed tips. We took advantage of some of the food recommendations and they were some of our favorites from the trip. I wouldn't hesitate for a second. I have stayed many places through companies and nothing compares to this house. We will come back with our friends and family for sure! Warmly, Kelly

Vanessa was lovely and the house is fabulous. Magazine worthy. Simple and elegant design. Multiple pleasing spaces to lounge and hang inside and out. Great landscaping. We cooked (with herbs from the garden) and stayed home most nights because the house was so great. Perfect Provence.

Photos don't do the property justice. Wonderful location close to town, but with a large enough yard for the kids to explore the soccer field, cherry trees, pool, flowers, teeter-totter, and trampoline. There were so many kids books, toys, instruments, and outdoor activities (bikes, scooters, wheel barrels, etc) that kept our kids happy and excited each day. St Remy is a great town with nice restaurants, market, bakeries, and carousel (a huge hit with the kids). Beyond that, Vanessa was a great and responsive host. We couldn't have asked for more and look forward to returning with our extended family.

This home is truly exceptional and perfect for a family vacation. The home blends modern conveniences with well-preserved historical architecture and looks even better than the pictures. The pool was outstanding, but we were told not to use the cover so keep an eye on the little ones. They recently added a trampoline which was a huge hit with our kids, in addition to table tennis, a genuine soccer field and lots of land to explore. The location was perfect - isolated but still very close to beautiful St Remy. Easy day trips down to the beach or other sites/towns in Provence. We had one fairly substantial issue with the water but the local caretaker and owner were extremely attentive and did everything possible to rectify and make up for the issue. Overall a fabulous experience that I would not hesitate to recommend to families with kids.

Our family of six (2 adults, 2 grandparents and 2 children ages 7 & 10) had an amazing week at Mas de la Roubine. The written description of the house is spot-on and all the photos accurately portray its lovely design. The property is beautifully landscaped with weaving paths through olive trees, a lavender field filled with butterflies, and numerous areas for lounging and relaxing to the sound of cicadas while drinking rosé. It really is a dream world for kids. Our daughters spent their time swimming in the pool, playing near the stream, trying to catch fish in the pond and watching the (exciting!) projector tv in the lounge. The bikes were perfect for sunset rides through the quiet and flat streets surrounding the property. The owner Vanessa is friendly, communicative, and was incredibly quick to respond to any of our questions from the moment we booked throughout our entire stay. Her book of recommendations was a perfect guide to the area. The house is a short pretty drive away from the charming town of St Rémy which is filled with shops, bakeries & restaurants. I highly recommend this property and hope to one day return.

We have just returned from a heavenly week in Mas de la Roubine. There was plenty of space for a group of 6 adults and 5 young children. We spent lots of time exploring the garden- counting frogs/snails/butterflies. The pool was a little chilly but we brought wetsuits for the children (who are water babies) so that didn't stop us from enjoying it. The children also enjoyed being chauffeured in the Bakfiet bike. We used the private chef and yoga instructor recommended by Vanessa, who were both wonderful. St Remy is very pretty, with a lovely market and shops. There was a village fete when we were there. We visited the beach, a zoo and nearby Baux when we were there. There was lots to do within easy driving distances. Highly recommend and hope to revisit in the future!

My family and I just had a beautiful week at Mas Des Verans. This property is truly gorgeous. I cant recommend it enough. Saint Remy is a short drive away and has a wonderful supermarket to supply you with all your needs - including an amazing fish counter. There is also the weekly market that we found invaluable for all our local produce, cheese, olives and meat. The kitchen is extremely well set up with everything you may need to feed your family and guests. Sharp knives, great crockery and plenty of glassware. The oven is massive and the induction cook top makes preparing a meal easy. My favourite spot was the hammock outside the master bedroom - but all rooms are wonderful with great linen and lots of space. The kids loved the double bunk room. The pool was already closed due to the cool weather in Provence at the end of October - but if you were to rent the property in the warmer months, the pool area would be fantastic. Our children loved the enormous grounds - they searched for frogs and fairies, played football on the pitch and sailed leaf boats down the steam. For us it was the perfect family holiday. We look forward to returning in the summer months. Vanessa the owner was fantastic and answered and queries I may have had as well as guiding us in when our GPS couldn't find her home!

we were a group of 5 adults and 5 children (1-12 years) and were happy to discover this perfect flawless beautiful villa. We stayed at the house for a week and had a great time discovering the area and the house itself. The villages of Saint Remy near by is nice, and the ancient town of Le Baux with the Chateau at the top of the hill (7 min drive) is a dreamy playground and a fairy tail for kids and grownups as well. The location of "Mas des verans" is perfect for those who wish to explore the Provence area. The house itself has all the amenities you need for a great vacation and a piece of heaven for the kids with the great yard outside. The owners are friendly, helpful and a fountain of local knowledge and recommendations.

We stayed at Mas des Verans in July 2016 and had a wonderful time. We hardly left the house at all as we were looking for a relaxed, family stay - a home from home, which is very much what the house is. The owners have thought of everything you might want so if you are travelling with children, you actually need not take anything in the way of entertainment really. The pool area was beautiful and, critically for us, with small children between 1-7, we were able to see the pool from the kitchen outdoor area. The two outdoor eating areas are both covered which again was important for us with children. There was plenty of shade as well as lots of sunshine. For the children, the grounds are fantastic - the trampoline was a big hit. We also regularly used the bikes on site to cycle into St Remy which was about 10-12 minutes bike ride. We wouldn't hesitate to return to the house.

Mas des Verans is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life here. It surpassed our expectations. It’s a perfect layout with the pool, ping-pong table, and soccer field. Plenty of room to spread out and relax! We loved how the house is decorated with a modern-French country style and mixing the old with the new. We also fell in love with St. Remy and the surrounding area. We we’d love to make another trip and explore the area further. Vanessa did an amazing job with your recommendations! Every restaurant was absolutely perfect- it’s difficult to choose a favorite. We cannot thank you enough for all of your input. On our last day we visited the Carrieres de Lumieres in Baux de Provence, they had a great Chagall exhibit. The kids enjoyed it too. There’s a great little jewelry store that my husband found called bijoux d’argent on route d’Arles. The gentleman, Jacques Moniquet, hand makes silver jewelry and was very kind. He invited us into his jewelry making shop. It’s difficult to suggest that Vanessa does anything different, the home is perfect and the suggestions as well! I hope that others will enjoy your home and treat it with care!
