Perks for the Parents
This beautifully renovated old farmhouse with a heated pool, 5 minutes from Saint Remy de Provence and Les Baux, has wonderful play spaces for kids and interior design to dream about. It is great for a larger group - with several private areas and terraces plus large comfortable bedrooms. The main house sleeps 12 and the guest house sleeps up to 6 for an additional fee - ideal for nannies. One of the ground floor bedrooms has its own entrance and can also work well for a nanny or au pair. It can also connect to another bedroom for an easy set-up with a baby. All bedrooms have air conditioning (new from 2020). The property is fully enclosed with lots of land for the children to run around (2.5 acres). There is a pretty water stream, an olive grove with over 50 trees, a fish pond, a heated swimming pool with a pool house and an outdoor kitchen. There is also a pretty jogging path directly behind the property.
Why Kids Love it
There is lots of space to play inside and out. Kids can chase butterflies, play football on the pitch, jump in the trampoline, read books (French and English) in one of the hammocks, choose movies from the Apple TV and DVD libraries (English and French) and watch them projected in the cinema room. There's plenty to do including a large trampoline, a proper football (soccer) pitch, and lots of swings and other games to keep the children happy. Saint Remy de Provence alone offers lots of activities from rock climbing to sculpture classes and pretty museums centered on Van Gogh who spent a few years nearby. The house is a 20-minute bike ride to the nearest ice cream parlor and the merry-go-round of Saint Remy.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 7 days, 14 days from June to August. The swimming pool has an automatic safety curtain but is not gated; there is also a small fish pond that is too deep for the very little ones so they should be supervised near it. The stairs to the children’s bedrooms are a little steep. The master bedroom is on the opposite side of the house from the children’s rooms, but a baby monitor works fine and there are bedrooms available closer to them. Maintenance cleaning twice a week is included, and additional cleaning can be arranged with notice. The house’s little black book includes contact details for babysitting, massage, sports coach, yoga teacher, a chef, a driver to go visit the wineries and more.
About the Location
This old farmhouse is 5 minutes by car from Saint-Remy-de-Provence in a rural hamlet with mostly all-year residents - it's around half an hour's walk or 15/20 minutes' bike ride. It is private and safe, with horses and cows grazing in the adjacent fields. The house is equally close to the medieval fortress of Les Baux de Provence, one of France’s most famous villages. The beautiful towns of Arles, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are all less than an hour away, as are the famous vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. Avignon airport is 30 minutes’ drive; Nimes airport is 40 minutes away and Marseilles airport is 1 hour away. Eurostar stops in Avignon, 30 minutes away.
Accommodation Details
There are 6 bedrooms in the main house: 1 primary bedroom with a queensize bed, ensuite bathroom and private terrace at one end of the house. At the opposite end of the house on the ground floor, there are 2 bedrooms with queensize beds and an ensuite shower. On the first floor, a children's bedroom with 2 bunk beds sleeps 4 kids, and a double shower room is shared with a fifth bedroom (which has a queensize bed). On that floor, a sixth bedroom with a queensize bed has its own shower room. The host accepts bookings of up to 12 guests. A toddler rail can be supplied if needed, as well as two portable baby cots. The property has a large living room, a family kitchen, a cinema room, and a garden with heated pool and a pool house. An independent cottage (located 100 meters away from the main house) sleeps up to 6 and is available for an additional fee - check with the hosts for rates. Fully renovated in 2016, it has 2 bedrooms: 1 with a queensize bed and another with 4 single beds, as well as a shared bathroom and a fully-equipped kitchen.
Style Notes
Bohemian chic. The mas is extensively featured in 2 beautiful interiors book: How the French live (USA) and The Art of Simple Living (Australia). The oldest part of the house dates back to 1664 while an architect-designed extension was added in 2014, together with extensive renovations. It is beautiful, with well thought-out touches and a sun-kissed style, making the most of the 4,000q ft of living space (400 sqm). The house is easy going with big couches and comfortable beds, lots of natural light and pretty Provençal views. It is furnished with objects bought at the many antique shops and flea markets in the area, or brought from the hosts’ travels around the world. We love the lounge areas in the gardens, the luxurious bedrooms and the feeling of warmth and relaxation. Photos are by Siham Mazouz.

Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Provence
Artists, sunshine and good living
Twelve miles south of Avignon, this beautiful Provençal village embodies all that is great about the area; art, good living and sunshine. Vincent Van Gogh lived here for a time; it’s also the birthplace of Nostradamus. Explore the Roman ruins nearby after browsing chocolate shops and playing in rivers beside flower-filled meadows.
