Why Kids Love it

The palm-tree lined backyard includes a swing seat, outdoor toys, jumperoo and a chalk wall. Indoors, the playroom is filled with toys and books for kids aged 1 and up, and there’s a library nook with books for babies to teenagers. Kids will love spotting crabs in the La Jolla Tide Pools and watching the wildlife at Seal Rock, both within a few a minutes' drive. Visits to Legoland California (40 minutes’ drive), Seaworld (20 minutes’ drive) and The New Children’s Museum (30 minutes’ drive) are added bonuses.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 nights. There is a set of stairs leading up to the front door and 2 flights of stairs indoors. There are zoned NEST units for air conditioning and heating and a fan for the upstairs deck. The garage is inaccessible but cars can be parked in the driveway or in the street and bikes can be stored at the side of the house. There are 3 outdoor decks and an outdoor grill. The house comes with a portable pack ‘n’ play space, play mat, high chair, 2 booster seats, children’s dinnerware, baby bath, changing table, DVD library, TV and WiFi. Safety notes: the bunk bed has a bed rail but no ladder to the top bunk and there are no stair gates. Sorry, no pets allowed.

About the Location

The house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood between Bird Rock and La Jolla, and is .7 miles from Windansea Beach. San Diego International Airport is 10 miles away (30 minutes’ drive). It’s easy to walk into La Jolla (15 minutes) or Bird Rock (25 minutes) using the bike path behind the house - there is a library, coffee shop, restaurant and store, all within a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk. There is a bus stop 3 blocks from the house and car services (Uber, Lyft) are easily available.

Accommodation Details

The property has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The primary bedroom has 1 queensize bed, sitting area and deck with sea views. This room has an ensuite with a bath and a shower. There are 2 kids rooms: the first has a set of bunk beds and the second has 3 single beds. The guest bedroom has its own private deck and a twin bed. There is another family bathroom with a bath and shower, and another smaller bathroom with a walk-in shower. The open plan kitchen and living area has a large dining table, breakfast bar, library nook under the stairs and a playroom. There’s also a laundry room with washer/dryer. There are 3 outdoor decks, a patio and a backyard.

Style Notes

Scandi beach house. The property has been decorated by an interior designer, drawing inspiration from classic Danish style: clean, modern and sophisticated. The use of glass on the stairs, multi-aspect windows and indoor/outdoor living spaces create a light, open feel that perfectly complements the breezy beach location. We love the fun outdoor chalk wall, the cozy reading nook under the stairs and the upstairs swing seat looking out over the hills.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.

Seals, sea lions and surf town charm

Just 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego, this chic, laid-back surf town is a wonderful spot for a family vacation. Not only are you within easy reach of Legoland, San Diego Zoo and San Diego Wild Animal Park, but there are fantastic family-friendly beaches on the doorstep and some great new friends to make. Stroll along Coast Boulevard to the Children’s Pool to see the town’s famous seals and sea lions; surf, snorkel or explore tide pools on the beach, and find out more about the local wildlife at the Birch Aquarium.

The space was beautiful, clean and perfectly equipped for a three and four year old. The neighborhood was quiet and backed up to a great walking hill and a short walk to the beach. The owners provided great tips of things to do and a thoughtful welcome basket. It made our time with our family easy and comfortable!

There are so many wonderful things I could write about Julie's home in La Jolla, CA. From it's family friendliness to cleanliness, it's a true home-away-from-home when you are travelling with children. My husband and I stayed here with our 2 x small children. Our 2 year old loved the playroom, outdoor activities and giant chalkboard. And it was incredibly helpful that our 9 month old had his own room and use of a clean crib and high chair. For adults, the house is truly luxurious with high end detail, beautiful linens and comfortable bedding. It's only a 10 minute walk to the beach, the neighborhood is quiet and the neighbors are friendly. La Jolla as a village is perfect too - if you are looking for a laid back and relaxing break, you're in the perfect place. Thank you for having us Julie. :)
