This central apartment has three double bedrooms, sleeping up to 6, and is simple, uncluttered and well located. It’s just a 15 minute walk from the residence to the beach and marina, and shops, bars and restaurants are right on the doorstep. As a base for exploring Santander, the beaches along the coast and even the mountains backing on to the city, it’s a good choice. It might not be one of Spain’s best-known tourist towns, but Santander is all the better for it, with tapas bars serving dishes including just-caught-and-fried calamari, and churros bars for chocolate and donut-loving kids.

What we love

  • It’s a simple and uncluttered apartment in a great location in Santander
  • It’s very central: a 15-minute walk to the beach (5 minutes by bus) and marina and in the center of the city beside shops, bars and restaurants
  • The residence has with three double bedrooms. Two are simple rooms and the third also has a dressing room and ensuite bathroom with shower
  • There’s a large tiled family bathroom with a bath and shower over it
  • The kitchen-diner is well equipped with a stove, oven, fridge-freezer and Krups coffee machine, plus a dining table seating 6
  • There’s also a lounge with toys, sofa and TV with some international channels
  • Nearby you’ll find a park with a playground and carousel, seafront promenades, shops, cafés and restaurants
  • The residence is one block from the Paseo Pereda, the new Botin Arts Centre and the Cathedral of Santander

Things to know

  • The closest airport to the residence is in Santander itself; there is also an airport in Bilbao, an hour away, and there are ferry links with Portsmouth and Plymouth in the UK
  • Car hire is recommended for getting the best of the local area, but it’s not essential if you plan to stay in Santander itself for a short stay
  • There is public parking 3-5 minutes from the residence
  • The residence is on the first floor of a 1940s apartment building with an elevator
  • FYI! Sometimes windows are left open in the communal areas of the building - small children must be supervised at all times outside the residence
  • For young children, a high chair and some toys are provided and a travel cot is available on request
  • There is no outdoor space at the residence
  • There is no WiFi at the residence but it can be arranged for a longer stay

As a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, we always have to travel to visit family in the US and Spain. We travel with kids so we like to go to places that are kids friendly. Our flat in Santander is definetely one of them where the kids feel really confortable once they get there. I enjoy meeting friends from all over the world. We live in a very multicultural city and it is always fun to share experiences with them.

Santander, Cantabria

Churros, calamari and seafood

On the north coast of Spain, this elegant seaside resort offers an authentic take on the country without the tourists. With tree-lined avenues, arts centres and bustling marinas, not to mention some lovely golden sand beaches, it’s an unspoilt and interesting city to visit - especially if your kids like churros, calamari and seafood.
