Perks for the Parents

This welcoming farmhouse with a heated saline pool and huge backyard has everything you need for the perfect family stay on Shelter Island. It sleeps 8 + 2. The downstairs queensize bedroom is great for grandparents with limited mobility, and the master bedroom can accommodate a family of 3-4. Prepare fresh goodies picked up from farms and specialty stores in the chef’s kitchen, spend summer days in the pool, play at the local tennis courts and playgrounds, visit the local family-friendly beach and toast s’mores on the fire pit at night. The house has everything you need including a covered front porch with a swing, backyard hammock, plenty of beach towels and beach chairs.

Why Kids Love it

This home is great for kids of all ages – is 1 crib and 1 pack and play for babies and a twin room for 2 little ones or teenagers. The heated saline pool with its lower chlorine levels is gentle on eyes and skin. There’s plenty of grassy backyard to run around and play games, and local beaches are close by – Wade Beach is 1 mile and Crescent (Sunset) Beach is 3 miles. Shelter Island has summer camps for kids and it’s also a great place to unwind, disconnect and experience a simpler life as a family. Take the bikes provided (or rent at Piccozzi's Bike Shop), try some minature golf at Whales Tale, explore the local nature, choose one of the shorter hikes in the Mashomack Preserve and learn from the archaeology display at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 14 nights in July and August; 3 nights off-season. A refundable security deposit is required at the time of booking. Safety notes: there is a fence around the pool and a pool alarm which meet local and state requirements. Please note that the pool fence is not right up against the pool and so there is a risk of a small child running around next to the pool. Children should be supervised on the upper deck. All linens and towels (incl. beach towels) are provided. The rental includes an oversized 2-car garage with an extra refrigerator/freezer and direct access to the backyard, onsite washer and dryer, bikes, multiple charging stations for devices, puzzles and lots of books for summer reading.

About the Location

This Long Island farmhouse is on Shelter Island, Suffolk County, NY and can be reached via an 8-minute ferry ride from Greenport, NY North Ferry Station or from North Haven. The home is centrally located and within 7 minutes’ walk of Commander Cody's (great BBQ, seafood and fried chicken), a playground, tennis courts, and town center. It's a 10-minute drive to Mashomack Preserve for hiking along the coast or bird watching. The town has plenty of restaurant options and shops and there are drop-in yoga and fitness classes at the youth center. Other things to do include fishing and water sports, music at the famous Itzhak Perlman Music Center, jazz at Ram's Head Inn or events at the historic Sylvester Manor.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms laid out over 2 floors. Three bedrooms are upstairs and 1 downstairs. On the 1st floor is a fully equipped kitchen and a living room with a couch, gas fireplace and smart TV with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and HBO. The bedroom on this floor is queensize with a bathroom with a shower and tub across the hallway. On the 2nd floor is a master kingsize suite with a walk-in closet and bathroom with a walk-in shower and a claw foot tub. The suite also has its own outside deck and a smart TV with cable. There is also a queensize bedroom which shares the master deck, and a twin / single bedroom (beds can be pushed together for a kingsize bed). These bedrooms share a full bathroom with a shower and tub. Additional amenities include a screened-in porch, large backyard with a solar-heated pool, fire pit, gas BBQ and patio area with outdoor seating.

Style Notes

Simple, clean and functional. This farmhouse is furnished for comfort with wood floors strewn with rugs, wood furniture and relaxing muted colors. There are plenty of spots for guests to chat, read play games, entertain and take naps. The indoor screened porch has a rocking seat for reading and entertaining during sunny or rainy summer days. The master bathroom has a claw foot bath to feel your troubles melt away and double sinks for convenience. We love the outdoor master suite deck where you can enjoy a coffee with views of the trees and watch the sunrise, the super outdoor space and the idyllic location.
