It is well set up for a family stay, with a fully equipped kitchen which is open and next to the pool. The nearest beaches are 5 minutes away on foot. Bedrooms are spacious and airy and the property has featured in numerous style and interior design magazines. The guest house sleeps 2 and is ideal for a nanny or grandparents.

Why Kids Love it

There is space to play and a great pool with a lower level for children. One of the 3 bathrooms has a bath, ideal for kids. The large mezzanine level has a large bed and big TV and kids love it - it is best for those aged 5 and up. About the Location

The residence is halfway between the old harbor and Dapia, the new harbor, in Spetses island, and 5-10 minutes on foot from each. Spetses can be reached by boat from Piraeus (2.5 hours) or by road from the Athens International Airport (2.5 hours). It is a car-free island with only horse carriages, bicycles, motorbikes and few taxis. Along with beaches, local family attractions include 2 open air cinemas, big playgrounds and pedestrian streets.

Accommodation Details

The property has a main house, a pool and a guest house. The main house has 2 bedrooms on the ground floor sharing one bathroom, with stairs leading to the mezzanine level with a huge bed - suitables for ages 5 and up. Another bedroom is located on the pool level with an ensuite bathroom. There is also a big living room and a small open kitchen. The guest house has a large bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and includes the main kitchen. It is on the same level as the pool and BBQ.

Style Notes

Romantic retreat. The house was built in 1860 and renovated in 2004 with great respect to the traditional materials and style of the island (white clay walls, recessed beds etc). The property has featured several times in interior design magazines such as Marie-Claire Maison and Living. We love the low wooden tables and Moroccan style of the large living room, the intimacy of the mezzanine level, with its beamed ceiling and the high-ceilinged and flagstone-floored rustic chic kitchen.

Barbara's home in Spetses is nothing short of spectacular! It is a beautiful oasis on this quaint island and I could not recommend it enough. One of the best parts of our experience was meeting Mimi, her caretaker, who was incredibly helpful and cooked some amazing Greek food on several occasions. The kids could not get enough of the pool and were in there at least 2x/day. The sleeping loft upstairs became their favorite place for downtime after the busy days at the beach. Barbara has really thought of everything and has created a lovely home away from away for families. Spetses was a gem of a find and I am so thankful that we chose to stay there. It is definitely more of a "locals" island where everyone seems to know each other. They are so welcoming and thankful for your business. It is great that the cruise ships do not visit this Island, as it keeps it quiet and enjoyable. I would highly recommend renting mopeds and cruising the entire island. There are so many hidden beaches that are much better than the ones closer to town. You will not be disappointed with this home or this island.

Spetses, Greek Islands

Secluded beaches and designer boutiques

Just 2 hours from Piraeus harbor in Athens, this pretty, car-free island is a popular weekender destination of the city’s jet set, and has pine-clad hills, secluded beaches and designer boutiques to prove it. Hire bicycles to explore the port of Dapia, breathe deeply and inhale the scents of jasmine and pine (the island’s name means ‘spice island’) and hire a boat to discover beaches inaccessible any other way.
