Perks for the Parents

This glorious high-ceilinged family home in the heart of Amsterdam is full of light and space, with playgrounds and a lovely Sunday market nearby. A real family home, it is well set up for a family stay, with a full kitchen connected to a large dining room, and a spacious living room plus toilets on both floors. The large family bathroom makes bathtime easy and has a shower and bath. On sunny days, sit in the big garden while the kids play in the sand box.

Why Kids Love it

This house is a great family space, with plenty of toys and books for young children. A crib and high chairs are available. The neighborhood has several parks and playgrounds, some just in walking distance, and the Westergasfabriek park is nearby, with several playgrounds and play areas for different ages, more than enough coffee and lunch spots, and a children's farm. There is a fortnightly food market on a Sunday nearby that attracts a lot of young families. The Marnixbad swimming pool is a 3-minute walk away and has regular sessions for parents and young children in its instructional pool.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The apartment has its own entry at the ground floor. A few steps lead you to the front door. It is in a paid parking area, and there is almost always a parking spot available in the street. Car rental is not essential in this central neighborhood, which is walkable and well connected by public transport and bike routes. There is a great family-friendly Italian restaurant just around the corner, plus a big supermarket, a popular bakery, a fish shop, drugstore, organic shop, bike rental and several restaurants, and take away shops.

About the Location

This residence is just next to the Jordaan area of Amsterdam and is highly central. The historic city center and canals are under 10 minutes’ walk away, with the museum district and Vondelpark 5 minutes away by tram. Add up 5 more minutes and you are in Artis Zoo. There are buzzing markets and a lively restaurant scene in the Jordaan area just nearby. There are 2 bus lines a 2-minute walk away running regularly to Amsterdam Central Station and it’s easy to reach Schiphol airport, 35 minutes away by train and bus and 20 minutes by taxi. Holland is easy to navigate by train too.

Accommodation Details

This spacious 2-floor apartment is over the ground and first floor and has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The master bedroom features a kingsize bed and the second bedroom has a twin/single bed and a junior bed fitting a child up to about eight years old. A third bedroom is set up for a baby/toddler with a crib. There is a very spacious open plan living room and dining room, connected to the kitchen. Two patio doors give access to a covered balcony and a small flight of stairs lead to the grassy garden.

Style Notes

Bright, light and peaceful. This charming family house was recently renovated and is beautifully kept with authentic Amsterdam details, including stained glass windows for example, combined with modern touches. Antique and design classics go hand in hand: crown moldings and high ceilings plus chevron wood flooring, slogan posters and modern lighting. We love the sweet nursery bedroom, the sleek bathroom and the Poul Kjaerholm lounge chairs.

We are Marthe (33), Henk (38) and Stella (3). We moved to our charming place at the Nassaukade in 2016. We love our neighborhood, near the city centre and at the sametime very peaceful. We have been living in Amsterdam for more than 15 years, we are still crazy about this city. We also love to travel, from Asia to road tripping in California. Since Stella was born, we tend to stay a bit closer by in Europe, and go to Swiss (mountains) of Portugal (beautiful coast) for example. Our daughter Stella loves to play with her dolls, in her kitchen and loves to dance and sing. We would love to host our residence to young families to make your stay in Amsterdam comfortable and easy going with kids.

We absolutely loved our stay in the Nassaukade Residence. The location was close to everything we wanted to do, a grocery store close by, amazing restaurants, parks and Marthe was such a wonderful host. The kids absolutely loved the toys, and the big windows overlooking the canal. It made our stay incredibly easy. We travelled with a 7 year old, a 4 year old and a 1 year old, so we had our hands full.

The Jordaan, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most admired area

This jewel in the heart of central Amsterdam is all tiny streets checkered with shops and cafés, well-kept historical homes and beautiful canals. It is a short stroll from Anne Frank House and many of the central galleries, museums and attractions, and there are markets on Mondays and at the weekend. Don’t miss the Westerpark, which has a petting farm and swamp adventure land, or taking a tour of the city by boat.
