Perks for the Parents

This 19th Century architect’s home is opposite a canal in the central Jordaan district, with contemporary design touches, and a large garden to enjoy. A real family residence, it is set up with everything you will need away from home with a full kitchen, spacious open concept living areas and playgrounds nearby. On sunny days, there is a large urban garden for the whole family to enjoy. The attractions of central Amsterdam are a short walk, tram ride or cycle away. Boats cruising down the Singelgracht canal are visible from the front-facing windows.

Why Kids Love it

The house has a lovely garden with a swing and room to play soccer, hockey or badminton, and is packed with kids toys. A local playground is less than 5 minutes’ walk away. Bigger city parks such as Vondelpark and Westerpark with lakes, picnic areas and space to run about are around 20 minutes away by foot and tram. The house comes well equipped with toys suitable for 2 to 8-year-olds. The Het Marnix swimming pool and sports complex is a 6-minute walk away and has regular sessions for parents and young children in its instructional pool, as well as a lovely café overlooking the water.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 nights. The residence is set over 2 floors without an elevator and with wooden stairs with a stair rail. The stairs are not steep; a stair gate can be added on request at the first floor. Car rental is not recommended and only useful if exploring outside the city. Otherwise, Amsterdam itself is very well serviced with public transport including trams, buses and trains and most of the attractions of the city are walkable.

About the Location

The residence is in the The Jordaan neighborhood of central Amsterdam. It is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Schiphol airport and a 10-minute taxi ride from Central Station. The Jordaan is known for its beautiful architecture, canals and restaurants. Around the corner of this residence is the culinary hot-spot The Hugo de Grootplein, a busy square packed with trendy restaurants, food shops and café-bars. Anne Frank’s house and the Noordermarkt flea market are both a 6-minute drive or 15-minute walk away.

Accommodation Details

This 140-sqm city residence has 4 bedrooms and 1 family bathroom, plus 2 toilets, and is set over 2 floors. The ground floor has is open concept with a very large living room, a dining room with a large table and a full kitchen. The 4 bedrooms are upstairs: a master bedroom with queensize bed, a large kids room with double bed and toddler bed, a bedroom with a toddler bed or crib, and a bedroom with double sofa bed. The bathroom has a bathtub and shower. Outside there is a large wooden terrace with a hammock and a lot of greenery.

Style Notes

Bright and light. This 19th Century family home has retained the handsome architecture of the neighborhood with its high ceilings and large windows, and inside has been beautifully restored and modernized with white walls, whitewashed floors and contemporary furniture. Pieces of art or carefully placed chairs give a pop of color against the neutral backdrop. We love the elegantly curved staircase, the beautiful tropical wallpaper in one bedroom and the vintage crib.

We stayed with my family 4 kids. Loved it ! Great place great location and lovely owners. Central location so you can walk to all tourist spots. Great cafes and restaurants close by. The house is beautiful and full of Dutch character. My family had such a great time , when we come back to Amsterdam we hope to repeat our stay here.

Location Location Location! Only 2 blocks away from the main part of the city yet still felt very family friendly. The outdoor space was fantastic and we immensely enjoyed the patio where had most of our meals. The swing for the kids was an extra bonus. There were plenty of toys to play with inside and out. We especially loved the local bakery and Yam Yam pizza which was just around the block. Overall a great experience.

The Jordaan, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most admired area

This jewel in the heart of central Amsterdam is all tiny streets checkered with shops and cafés, well-kept historical homes and beautiful canals. It is a short stroll from Anne Frank House and many of the central galleries, museums and attractions, and there are markets on Mondays and at the weekend. Don’t miss the Westerpark, which has a petting farm and swamp adventure land, or taking a tour of the city by boat.
