Perks for the Parents

This beautiful 5-story home offers the opportunity to live like a local family in the heart of child-friendly Amsterdam, with canals nearby and plenty of great cafés and restaurants. The home is set up so that you can roll a napping child straight into the front door without disturbing them. The spotless kitchen is fully equipped with all small and large appliances for happy meal preparations. The master bathroom has a soaking tub. On the big comfy couch you can enjoy the fireplace or a relaxing movie night from the Netflix selection. The master bedroom has a comfy king size bed.

Why Kids Love it

The house has toys that range from age 1 to 10 years old. Great for both boys and girls. Loads of board games and puzzles. The local playground has chickens and rabbits. Kids can enjoy feeding the ducks and swans in the surrounding canals. There is a lovely indoor swimming pool an 8 minute walk away. A nearby craft shop has supplies to keep kids entertained with fun projects. Children can play, cycle, draw with chalks or scoot on the street. The kids bedroom has a bed with a pull out lower bed - best for age 3+ - with an upper bed that looks like a fort.

Things to Know

The minimum stay is 2 nights. Discounts will be provided for longer term stays, please inquire with the host. A car is not necessary, however paid parking is available on the street. Convenient bicycle rental is right around the corner. The staircases have child safety gates. The stairs have grip strips on them but children and parents should always hold on to railings. A baby travel crib can be provided on request.

About the Location

The residence is in the Jordaan in central Amsterdam. The Anne Frank House is a 2 minute stroll and most central museums and monuments are within a 15 minute walk. Schiphol airport is 25 minutes away by car. Nearby you can rent small boats to tour the city. There are tram stops nearby to get across town quickly. Local markets sell organic foods, antiques and textiles on Mondays and at the weekend.

Accommodation Details

This typical Amsterdam row house is set over 5 stories and has 1 space on each level. The main entrance leads into the kitchen and dining area. The second level is a living room. The third level is the master bedroom. The fourth level is the children’s bedroom suitable for children aged 3 and up, with a twin bed and additional bed underneath. The fifth floor is a cabin-style bedroom suitable for children 8 and up that opens out on to a small roof terrace. The front door opens up onto the brick paved street with a patio area and bistro set to enjoy the scenes passing by.

Style Notes

Bright and modern with some vintage and eclectic details. The open floor plan gives the space an airy feel. The children's room is cozy in a tall attic space and the master bedroom is light and airy. The living room is comfy and uncluttered. The kitchen and dining area are at street level and at the heart of this Jordaan house. We love the clean spaces, the white walls and the characterful furniture.

I'm a designer and so is my husband! We have two lively kids who we bike around to all the fun things to do in Amsterdam with. We are Canadians living in the Netherlands who love sharing our city with guests.

We have just returned from a wonderful fortnight's holiday in Amsterdam. Michelle's house in the Jordaan was the perfect location for a young family (three children under the age of eight) - very central and within easy tram/bicycle ride from everywhere we wished to travel in the city (and 10 minutes from the central train station too). The house is lovely with plenty of space for the children to relax and play. Most of all perhaps is the advice and communication from Michelle - great insider tips on what to do and see within Amsterdam and the Netherlands. In short, we loved it. It's a great place to stay if you are coming to Amsterdam.

We had a fantastic time staying in The Nieuwe Leliestraat Residence with our two children (4 and 7). The house is very well equipped and comfortable and the welcome basket on arrival was much appreciated. Michelle (our host) had given us some good tips for activities with the kids and had also recommended some great local places to eat. We plan to return!

Our stay at the Nieuwe Leliestraat Residence was fantastic! The house a great home base for our family vacation. My wife and I, our two kids, and her parents all slept comfortably, and it was great to have a kitchen for breakfast, snacks, and drinks. My four year old daughter loved the ability to come 'home' and play with toys in between our sightseeing stops, and my just-walking one year old had a safe clean place to explore. The property is located in a great part of town for families - close to major tourist attractions and good restaurants but also nice and quite. When we walked outside, we felt like we were strolling through 'our neighborhood' in Amsterdam. The house is just around the corner from the Anne Frank House, so we were able to have one of the adults stay home with the kids while the rest of the group toured (and waited in the ling line to get in). If you are going to Amsterdam with your kids, I highly recommend the Nieuwe Leliestraat Residence!

The Jordaan, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most admired area

This jewel in the heart of central Amsterdam is all tiny streets checkered with shops and cafés, well-kept historical homes and beautiful canals. It is a short stroll from Anne Frank House and many of the central galleries, museums and attractions, and there are markets on Mondays and at the weekend. Don’t miss the Westerpark, which has a petting farm and swamp adventure land, or taking a tour of the city by boat.
