Perks for the Parents

This characterful Amsterdam home has so much to recommend it: a great garden, a cowboy-themed bed room, a bunk bed with a secret door leading to a play room, and a pancake bakery just down the street included. Parents will love the interior design throughout, with stand out features being the bathroom with freestanding tub and large scale blossom-print wallpaper and the large family-ready open plan living space, illuminated by chandeliers. An inner garden room with plants and a tree is a lovely calming space. There’s nothing quite like this unique, individual and very stylish home.

Why Kids Love it

There is a great garden for kids with a trampoline, swing and slide, plus a wall that you can play soccer and tennis against. Inside, there is a bedroom with a double bunk bed and a secret door to the play room with an old trunk with dress up clothes. From the bunk bed you can climb into the attic and slide down into the garden room on a sliding pole. The cowboy bedroom is a fun place with lots of toys; the garden room has a table for kids and more toys. Upstairs, the huge freestanding bath fits 3 kids. The owners have a list of students who love to babysit. The location is great for kids too - it's easy to reach major museums and landmarks, and to watch boats go by on the canal.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. Note that there a few areas that are not great for toddlers, including ladders, an indoor treehouse and some stairs that are not fully gated. We recommend this house for those with children over the age of 6 primarily. While there is a variety of bed options, the property is available for a maximum of 4 adults. There are cement stairs to downstairs with a glass gate to lock it off for little kids. Children must be careful that they don't run down the stairs in socks. The play attic has bars around it, but small kids can slip through. Car rental is not recommended; public transit in the city is highly reliable, and bicycle rental is also easy to find. The owners have a dog, who will be away during guest stays.

About the Location

The residence is in one of Amsterdam’s most characterful canalside location, the Jordaan. Often compared to a little village in the city, the area is full of bars, terraces and little shops on the Prinsenstraat and Herenstraat, and the 9 Streets. The home is a 2-minute walk from Anne Frank House and is next to a lovely pancake bakery. Just over the bridge is the Noordermarkt with its lovely flea and farmer's market on weekends. Trams are a 5-minute walk away and Central Station is a 10-minute walk. The Vondelpark and Museum Square are just an 8-minute bicycle ride away. Amsterdam Schiphol airport is a 25-minute drive away, or 30 minutes by public transport.

Accommodation Details

This 280 sqm apartment is on the second floor and includes 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It has a large open plan living space downstairs with a kitchen with breakfast bar, living room and dining area. There is a garden room with plants as well as a full garden with play area. The bedrooms include 1 with kingsize bed, 1 with queensize bed, 1 with double bunk bed and 1 with fullsize bed. The master bedroom and cowboy kids bedroom is upstairs; the 2 other bedrooms are downstairs next to the play room and garden room. There are 2 bathrooms with a bath and shower (one has a steam shower) and 3 separate toilets.

Style Notes

Modern warehouse. This stunning family home has the best of everything: location, design details, family spaces and play areas. You can watch the boats go by while having dinner at the window table - there is no doubt that you are in the heart of Amsterdam. The house is very spacious and has a mixture of old wooden beams and floors with modern furnishings. The open plan living space is illuminated by beautiful lighting, while the kids bedrooms and play spaces include US license plates on the walls, a saddle/swing seat and wanted posters. We love the garden patio, with its mossy buddha head and tree, the fantastic wall decals, pictures and wallpaper, and the design details throughout.

We are a combined family me, Frank our son of 7 and my 2 steph kids. Living partly in Amsterdam and partly in Belgium. We are all very sportive and outgoing. We love cities, different cultures and adventure.

The Jordaan, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most admired area

This jewel in the heart of central Amsterdam is all tiny streets checkered with shops and cafés, well-kept historical homes and beautiful canals. It is a short stroll from Anne Frank House and many of the central galleries, museums and attractions, and there are markets on Mondays and at the weekend. Don’t miss the Westerpark, which has a petting farm and swamp adventure land, or taking a tour of the city by boat.
