Perks for the Parents

This warm and light family apartment, set out over 2 floors, is in a great location for family fun in Amsterdam. Located in the Jordaan neighborhood, there are regular farmer’s markets nearby plus organic supermarkets, boutiques and delis on the award-winning Haarlemmerstraat and many amazing restaurants closeby. The 9 Straatjes, known for great shopping, is a 10-minute walk away. The open living room/kitchen is great for families; the kitchen has a Quooker (child-proof instant boiling water tap), over 50 spices and herbs and plenty of utensils for all kinds of family cooking needs, including a bread maker. There is a well known yoga studio next door with classes for kids on a Wednesday afternoon and for adults more regularly.

Why Kids Love it

This is a great family apartment with particularly good provision for babies and toddlers, including a bed sleeping ages 0-7 and a travel crib. There are baby and toddler toys, books, and wheeled toys plus a sand and water pit on the patio. There are several playgrounds around the corner, including one with a few rabbits and chickens, and a petting farm nearby. The Jordaan is a great area for young families - there are small streets in the neighborhood without buses or trams, making it perfect for strolls with young children. The Marnixbad swimming pool is a 3-minute walk away and has regular sessions for parents and young children in its instructional pool. Kids can feed the ducks in the Westerpark or on the canals at both ends of the street.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 days. The apartment is baby-proofed in terms of stairgates and outlet covers. Note that there are open stairs to the second floor but they are gated. Strictly no-smoking inside the house. No pets allowed. Parking is quite expensive in the neighborhood and a car is not essential in the city with great public transportation and a location meaning many of the city’s attractions are a short walk away. The hosts can lend their 2 bikes (1 has a baby seat) on request and there is bike rental at the end of the street. A travel crib, baby bath, playpen and baby car seat are available on request. There are black out curtains in the nursery and a moses basket is available on request. The host is able to offer pre-shopping when she is in town.

About the Location

The residence is in the Jordaan area of central Amsterdam, 5 minutes by bus from Centraal Station, or a nice 15-minute walk. It is a lovely area that feels like a village in the city. The property is 250m from the Brouwersgracht, elected the most beautiful canal in Amsterdam by its residents. Tram line 3 (around the corner) connects directly to Museumplein for the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Concertgebouw and Vondelpark. The Anne Frank House is a 10-minute walk away along the canals. The Westerpark is a 5-minute walk away, a lovely park with historical buildings, cultural events, a Sunday market, duck pond and a petting farm. Schiphol Airport is 20 minutes’ drive away.

Accommodation Details

This 2-bedroom apartment is laid out over 2 floors, with a living room with open kitchen and French doors to the terrace with BBQ, sand box and water play area on the ground level. The first floor has a master bedroom with a queensize bed, a children's bedroom, and a bathroom with walk-in rain shower, double sinks and bathtub. There is a separate toilet on both floors. Style Notes

Travel chic. The residence was completely renovated in 2014 and has a contemporary Amsterdam style with solid wooden floors, luxurious whites and Moroccan tadelakt bathrooms. Scandinavian design furniture are mixed with vintage items, classical plantation shutters, antique pottery and modern art. The owners regularly travel and bring back decorative items, including small paintings from a Lisbon-based artist from Nigeria to a leather Mariposa chair from Argentina, and a lantern made out of a wooden dhow from Zanzibar.

Maurits, our daughter Vesper (3 years) and I live in the Jordaan area, which we consider to be the best part in town😀. Our favourite destinations so far were the Australian East Coast, the Cape Town region and all of Argentina. Always into more amazing trips! We would love to welcome guests from all over the world and make sure you love Amsterdam as much as we do. Very much looking forward to host you!

We had a wonderful family stay at the Willemsstraat residence. Fleur and family were so hospitable and offered a great list of recommendations to explore Amsterdam! The neighborhood is ideal for discovering nearby shops, markets and restaurants. The apartment was perfect for our family, our little boy loved all the toys. We would happily stay there again.

Our family had a lovely stay at the Willemsstraat Residence. My husband and I brought our two 4-year olds and our baby girl, and the accommodations were perfect for a family of 5. We were able to have separate rooms for the children, and our baby was comfortable and slept great in the adorable nursery with the black-out curtains. Fleur was the perfect host, she made us feel very welcome, and even had some nice surprises for the kids which they loved, and had stocked the fridge with all the basics which was very helpful. She had a very detailed map of the area labeled with shopping, groceries, restaurants, etc which we referred to many times. The apartment is very clean, chic, and modern, and we felt very at-home there. The kitchen is a good size and was very easy to cook in. We all enjoyed the back porch area outside. The toys, books, and games were loved by all three of my kids, with many well-made wooden toys and nice puzzles and books. The neighborhood is beautiful, safe, and very well-situated in the city, with the beautiful canals steps away, the tram/bus stops right near by, and many boutiques, markets, restaurants, and groceries with in 5-10 minutes walk. If we are able to return to Amsterdam, we will definitely be staying here again! This was the most comfortable we've been traveling with our children, and we could not have asked for better accommodations! Thank you again, Fleur + family!

We had a fantastic stay at the Willemsstraat residence for two weeks with our 20month old son! Fleur could not have been more thoughtful- stocking the fridge for our arrival, sending me neighborhood recommendations and kid events and generally being a great ambassador of the city. We found the location to be ideal- close enough to walk or tram anywhere we wanted to go but also tucked off of the main areas. It's a super cute neighborhood. We felt very at home and my son loved playing with the sand and water on the back patio after a day of walking. We also found parks all over Amsterdam so it was very easy to balance adult and kid time. Also, PLENTY of healthy and tasty food options in the neighborhood for carry out dinners as well as a great grocery around the corner. We also loved the Saturday market a couple of blocks from the house. Would love to stay here again next time we are in town!

We had a fantastic stay at the Willemsstraat Residence. Fleur and her husband are very friendly and helpful, we really felt at home after the welcoming with tea and cookies! They have a beautiful home and it's located in a nice neighborhood, with the tram at walking distance. Their little daughter is younger then our daughter but they easily transformed the crib into a bed. There are also lots of children books and toys available for when you are not exploring the city. They provided us with lots of tips to do in Amsterdam. We came with our car to the residence, loaded everything out and my husband then parked the car at 'Oranjekwartier'. He had to take the tram back but the price is reasonable and our car was safe. Amsterdam is such a nice city to explore with children. There are so many things to do, like a kids theater (De Toverknol), fun 'dining' at Kinderkookcafe or a search party at Keukenhof. We highly recommend this residence!

We had an absloutley amazing stay at the Willemsstraat Residence, a beautiful apartment with such warm ambience. Fleur and Maurtis were kind enough to offer us their bikes, tram tickets, their daughter's stroller and fill the fridge for us with the essentials! The location of the apartment is a bonus too, 15-20 minutes away from all major attractions! Not to mention the delecious sushi place just around the corner. We truly enjoyed our 5 night stay and so did our one-year-old who loved exploring all the sensory toys in the apartment.

The Jordaan, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most admired area

This jewel in the heart of central Amsterdam is all tiny streets checkered with shops and cafés, well-kept historical homes and beautiful canals. It is a short stroll from Anne Frank House and many of the central galleries, museums and attractions, and there are markets on Mondays and at the weekend. Don’t miss the Westerpark, which has a petting farm and swamp adventure land, or taking a tour of the city by boat.
