We just returned from a relaxing week at Il Casolare, where Alessandra was a wonderful host. Whatever we needed, she was right there with advice or a fix, and a friendly smile. Her pizza making lesson will stay with me too! The house itself is situated in a gated location, with lovely views towards the Tuscan coast. Easy access to the autostrade for heading north to Pisa and Florence, and the villages nearby are gorgeous - especially Casale Marittimo. Check out White Beach too (Spiagge Bianche). Meraviligioso! Grazie, Alessandra.

Nice outdoor area with a good size pool and a very curated garden, plus a playground area for the kids which they loved. It was exactly as shown in the photographs. Very beautiful. However, we were a bit disappointed with the apartments. Although they were quite spacious, the general feel was a bit “untidy”. The linen was quite worn out and mismatched, and the blankets and covers were old and smelly. One of the baby cots didn't a have a mattress and we had to use a folded blanket instead. Other minor things like there was no microwave, washing machine or dishwasher, we had some hanging cables over the TV which I don´t think it´s great for kids and the shower was really tiny (no bath). Overall the stay was Ok but I suggest updating the linen and towels and having the cribs ready and made for arrival.

Tuscany, Italy

Olive groves, vineyards and rolling hills

This region of central Italy is as picture-perfect as you’ve heard: all rolling countryside, cypress trees, hazy views and historic stone villages. For those too young to enjoy wine, olive oil and relaxing, there are water parks, child-friendly heritage sites and theme parks, meadows and woods to play in, and donkeys to befriend. Hire a car and explore the surrounding area, buy fresh pasta to cook at home later, or spend afternoons in vineyards deciding which variety of Chianti you like the best.
