Perks for the Parents

This romantic Tuscan cottage with a shared saltwater pool is ideally located for day trips to Pisa and Florence. Set in a peaceful and ancient olive grove in the heart of Versilia, the rustic cottage was carefully renovated with natural colors and calming tones in 2011. The entire property is very quiet and sunny and has a wonderful view of the Versilia hills. Day trips to the coast, pretty villages and to Cinque Terre are possible from this location, taking 30-75 minutes.

Why Kids Love it

The property is set up with 3 bedrooms, 1 with 2 twin beds that can work for children or be put together as a queensize bed, and another with a single oversized bed. There are gardens to play in and a swimming pool with a whirlpool. Nearby daytrips will introduce kids to Italian culture, gastronomy, pizza and gelato. Toys, books and games are provided. There are beaches a 30-minute drive away or less. Family attractions nearby include Pinocchio Park in Collodi and the Grotto di Vento, for cave trips, both an hour away by car, and there is a specialized tour guide in Lucca who can take kids on a sightseeing tour around the city complete with history and local storytelling.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days. There are 3 properties on the estate sharing the garden and pool; all are asked to abide by common rules. The maximum number sharing the pool is 12 guests. Houses are all usually rented to families. The property has air conditioning, heating, a hairdryer and bathrooms with shower only. The swimming pool is open from May to the end of September. There is parking at the property and car rental is strongly advised. The master bedroom has a balcony; the pool is not gated but is set away from the house. Young children should be supervised at all times. Stair gates are available.

About the Location

The residence is in an olive grove in the heart of Versilia around 40km north of Pisa just inland from Italy’s Ligurian coast. It is a 15-minute walk from Pieve, where there are restaurants and shops. Florence and Pisa are around an hour away by motorway while the coast, beaches and pretty coastal villages including Cinque Terre are up to 75 minutes away by car. The nearest airport is in Pisa, a 40-minute drive away.

This 3-story house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The ground floor includes a living room, kitchen, dining room and bathroom. The first floor has a master bedroom with queensize bed, a second bedroom with a single oversized sofabed and a bathroom with shower. The top floor has a bedroom with a kingsize bed and bathroom. Outside space includes a garden, swimming pool, veranda with table for 8 and barbecue. There is private parking for 2 cars. The garden and pool are shared with 2 other properties on the estate.

Style Notes

Romantic Italy. La Torretta is a lovingly-restored ‘rustico’ - typical Tuscan cottage’ - with countryside views. Decorated with a natural palette, the property has original exposed beams and terracotta floor and roof tiles, paired with pale painted wood furniture, cozy drapes and quiet corners. We love the romantic white master bedroom with white painted floor and ivory curtains, and the garden bursting with herbs, flowers and vegetables in summer.

We take care of this peaceful corner of Camaiore for over 20 years. Year after year, with patience, and a lot of satisfaction, we have invested in the renovation and decoration of the houses for the guests' comfort, while preserving the character of the original local rustic. We grow fruit trees and an ancient olive grove that give us many fruits with which we produce with passion jams and fragrant and lively Extra Virgin Olive. We believe that it is important to environmental sustainability. Our idea of hospitality wants to combine the utmost comfort with respect for the environment: for this reason we invested in a photovoltaic system that allows you to reduce energy consumption from fossil fuels and we have created a small pond for rainwater harvesting useful for orchard irrigation, saving water supply for drinking.

We had a lovely, relaxing week at La Toretta Residence. We were greeted by Lucio who was very obliging and met us at the supermarket to guide us to the villa and then booked us a table in the local restaurant for the first evening. The house was very charming, traditional and with everything we needed. The master bedroom is very spacious and airy and the children were happy on the top floor with their own bathroom. The pool is large and has plenty of sunbeds and space around it so sharing with another family isn't a problem. We really liked the peaceful location away from the crowds but within easy reach of beautiful towns such as Lucca, rural villages and the coast. We also really liked the nearest town, Camaoire, just a five-minute drive away with plenty of shops and restaurants. We would definitely return. Thank you Gaia and family.

Versilia, Tuscany

Winding mountains and Art Nouveau resorts

On the borders with Lucca in the northwest of Tuscany, Versilia is the ideal location for a family stay. Not only do you have Tuscany’s famous countryside, vineyards and classical towns within easy reach, but the coast is also just a short drive away. Beaches are ideal for small children, gently shelving and sandy. Drive dramatic winding routes in the Apuan Alps, visit Pietrasanta, where Michaelangelo started his sculpting career, or play all day at the Art Nouveau seaside resort of Viareggio.
