Perks for the Parents

This calm 3-bedroom artist's loft is in the heart of Williamsburg, blocks away from McCarren Park. Well set up for a family stay, this home is spacious and liveable. It is very quiet, as it faces the back, and is very easy to access, being close to 2 subway lines, a block from a highway exit and only 20 minutes from LaGuardia . There is a fully equipped kitchen, several windows for plenty of natural light and a claw-foot tub for spa-like soaks after a long day walking through NYC. Plenty of amenities for older children.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love the open living space with room to play and the comfortable furniture and colorful, eclectic decor. The neighborhood is full of other kids and family-friendly restaurants and cafés. Beyond a few Nerf guns and a selection of balls, there are not many toys available for younger children. McCarren Park just 5 blocks away, with a skate park, BMX track, huge public swimming pool and smaller playground around the corner.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days. The building is mixed use, with a few small business tenants on the ground floor. The apartment is on the second floor, with no elevator and a steep wooden stairs. The apartment is not baby proofed. Windows include some window guards, but are large and should be opened by adults. Shared laundry room on the ground floor. Free street parking. No outdoor space. Ceiling fans included. WiFi (200mbps), TV and gaming console included with 55" flat screen TV in the living room space, with cable and Roku. No pets please.

About the Location

The residence is in Williamsburg’s Northside at the quiet end of a street without through traffic. It is 20 minutes from LaGuardia, 3 blocks from the Bedford Avenue stop on the L-train, 3 blocks from the G-train, and 10 minute ride to Union Square in Manhattan. McCarren Park 5 blocks away with a free pool open to the public during the summer. A large park along the East River is 10 minutes away. There is a greenmarket nearby on Saturday mornings.

Accommodation Details

This loft space with 14-foot ceilings throughout includes 3 bedrooms and 1 family bathroom in an open-plan layout, as well as an eat-in kitchen with table seating 4-6, an open living room, well-lit bathroom with clawfoot tub and shower, and a multi-purpose room with fullsize bed. The bedrooms include 1 with kingsize bed, 1 with fullsize bed and 1 with queensize bed. There is shared laundry in the building.

Style Notes

Unique and eclectic. Once a 1900s stable, this artist loft has interesting architectural features, 14-foot ceilings throughout, and located in a quiet back corner of the building. Large windows provide an open, airy feel while the exposed brick walls, original wooden flooring and collected art displayed throughout the house add character. We love the high ceilings, colorful accents from the family’s travels and natural light.

My wife and I have lived in the neighborhood since 1996, and were part of that initial wave of artists who began making the neighborhood a desirable place to be. We live in one of the last bastions of what people now call "old Williamsburg" - it was actually built as a stable over 100 years ago, and was split into artist lofts in the late 1990s. We're a unique, creative bunch, and our home expresses that aesthetic: much is self-built, gathered from everywhere, and you'll find evidence of our wide interests and many travels in every nook. My wife teaches yoga in the 'hood, and also has a holistic therapy practice, while I work as both a change management consultant, and a spiritual healer. Our two boys - 14 and 11 - are both active types, enjoying basketball, climbing, snow & ice sports, soccer, and (of course) computer gaming, depending on the kid and the season. As a family, we love to travel, and especially enjoy the outdoors. We've joined Kid & Coe because we especially want to share our home and our neighborhood with families - it's a quiet and beautiful refuge for both parents and kids, in the middle of the buzz.

We had a wonderful time this summer at the N 7th St. Residence! This is the authentic, Williamsburg hipster pad: - beautifully and lovingly refurbed by Jeff and Gab. Bright and airy, the apartment had ample space for our large family of four kids. We were able to comfortably shop nearby and cook in or eat out in some of the lovely restaurants in the vicinity. Two blocks away from the subway, it's a short ride to the centre of manhattan and so we found the pad a great base for exploring all of NYC. Williamsburg is an area of much renewal; on arrival the black door sandwiched between two artisan shops in an old stables on a quiet street felt a little ominous; however we fell in love with the place that the kids now call 'our New York holiday house'! Thanks Jeff and Gab for a wonderful stay and a memorable NYC experience!!

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

The hippest tots in the hood

Williamsburg, aka ‘Babyburg’, is a hip family hangout. Swing down to the waterfront to watch the boats then hit the Smorgasburg street food market at snacktime. Grass is rolled out on Bedford Ave at the weekend for impromptu picnics, and the neighborhood is packed with street-art inspired play spaces, playgrounds and an array of hip kids boutiques.
