Perks for the Parents

Designed by the architect owner, this is a wonderful 4-bedroom contemporary home built for family life with a large garden and playroom, within walking distance of the historic cathedral city of Winchester. It sleeps up to 5 + 1. Parents will appreciate the stylish and contemporary design and interiors here. The well-equipped open-plan kitchen and dining space is a joy to cook, dine and play in, while the separate playroom and TV snug allow plenty of space for quieter times. The super king master bedroom features an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower and walk-in wardrobe, and at night, the lounge offers a cozy retreat with a TV and woodburning stove.

Why Kids Love it

The house is home to a family of 5 with children of 8 and 4, plus a baby. As such, it is extremely well set up for travelling families with babies, toddlers and children under 12. The large, open plan space is perfect for family life and opens directly on to a sizeable garden which is great for running around and kicking a ball, and also features a sunken trampoline. A separate playroom will keep kids well occupied with a great range of books, games and toys, while upstairs the 3 children's rooms are beautifully decorated with more books and toys. The family bathroom has a bath and shower for children, and plenty of bath toys.

Things to Know

There is a minimum stay of 3 nights over term-time weekends, and 7 nights during school holidays. The house is located on a quiet, leafy lane and has private parking for 2 cars directly in a front of the property. Please note that a train line does run to the rear of the property, situated on a high bank that is securely fenced off at the end of the long garden and barely visible thanks to the mature trees along the boundary of the property. The garden room at the end of the garden further obscures the line and buffers noise meaning trains are barely audible inside the house. If required, stair gates, a high chair, baby bath and monitor can be provided on request. Fans can also be provided in the warmer months and additional cleaning can be arranged, particularly for stays of more than one week.

About the Location

The house is located a short walk into the historic center of Winchester. Oozing old world charm, the lovely compact city center offers a pedestrianized high street with plenty of great shops, pubs and eateries. At the city's heart is the stunning cathedral and grounds with a wonderful children's trail around the cathedral. There are several great parks and playgrounds, and the city also boasts extensive water meadows so there are beautiful walks in the countryside just a stone's throw from the house. You can even walk through the water meadows into the city center. Better still, Winchester is wonderfully located for reaching many of the country's major sights and attractions, and is just 1 hour on a direct train into London Waterloo. A short drive from the house is Intech Science Centre, Paulton's Park with Peppa Pig World, Marwell Zoo and several National Trust properties. The New Forest is a 30-minute drive, Stonehenge is a 50-minute drive, while the coastline and beaches can be reached in 45 minutes.

Style Notes

Contemporary cool. The interiors of this lovingly designed home are bright and light, mixing white-washed oak floors and cupboards, with monochrome accents and colorful modern art and soft furnishings. The entire ground floor is under-floor heated, while upstairs is carpeted for comfort. The garden is private and surrounded by shrubs and tall trees, giving relaxing views of greenery. The dining table in the kitchen has uninterrupted floor to ceiling views of the garden. We love the stylish main living spaces, the contemporary artworks and the super location.

A travel-loving family of five, with kids aged 8, 4 and 5 months. We live in the beautiful historic city of Winchester, often voted one of the best places to live in the UK, with both beautiful countryside and great pubs, eateries and shops on our doorstop. Happiest exploring the great outdoors; we love surfing, snowboarding, windsurfing, hiking and cycling. As an architect and marketing consultant, we're also interested in art and design and love exploring cities, visiting museums, galleries and sampling different cuisines.
