Perks for the Parents

This sensational home in the Catskills is ideal for larger groups and is set up with great indoor and outdoor spaces, a huge yard with a natural swimming pond and a games room. Perfectly curated for large groups, and sleeping up to 23, everyone has their own space. There are 3 master bedrooms, all ensuite with a large soaking tub, and plenty of privacy; an additional 3 bedrooms are set up for families with queensize beds plus bunk beds and trundle beds, and can work well for young families together or as a dorm-style set up for a mix of children. The 22-seater dining room table allows the whole group to come together for meals. Multiple gathering spaces (great room, loft living room, theater den, dining room and game room) means large groups can split up according to their needs. The location is sensational for skiing in winter, swimming in summer and hiking, antiquing and farm visits at all points of the year.

Why Kids Love it

Children love the great open spaces indoor and out: there is a huge yard with a natural swimming pond, plus yard games, and a large fire pit to gather round for s’mores. Bedrooms are set up with kids in mind - 3 of them have bunk beds and trundle beds, so you can configure rooms to suit kids. It’s great fun with another family or 2 - and all the kids can sleep together. In the winter, there are great hills for sledding and (temperature permitting) you can ice skate on the pond. In all seasons, there is a games room which features billiards, foosball, and darts (out of reach of little ones) and a cinema room for family film nights. Outdoorsy families can indulge in skiing, snow tubing, hiking, mountain and road biking, ziplining, golf, fly fishing, and kayaking nearby. Zoom Flume Water park is under 20 minutes away by car.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Rental includes the entire estate. Safety notes: the natural swimming pond is ungated, but it takes some getting to. Stairs are not gated - young children will need to be supervised around them, on the mezzanine level overlooking the lounge and on the upper deck and balcony. The hosts offer a complimentary concierge service for excursion booking, and can arrange onsite services like chef, waitstaff, spa services (in-house or off location), tours, golf, yoga classes, and more. Car rental is strongly advised for getting around the local area; there is parking at the property. There is a stereo with iPod connection and speakers throughout floor, with volume control in each room. There are limited items for baby/toddler parents but there is plenty of space if you need to bring a travel crib with you and there is a portable play yard.

About the Location

The residence is in the historic Catskill Mountains, 5 minutes from Windham Mountain, 2.5 hours from New York City and 2.5 hours from Boston. Nearby towns of Hudson, Phoenicia, and Woodstock offer shopping, antiquing, and additional dining options. The Catskills beverage trail features great craft, breweries, wineries, and distilleries. In the winter months there is easy access to ski resorts, Windham Mountain (5 minutes away), Hunter (20 minutes away), snow tubing and snowmobile/ATV rentals. For the rest of the year, nearby activities include multiple golf courses (3 in Windham proper, 5 more within a 40-minute drive), hiking/bicycle trails, swimming in rivers and lakes, state parks, mountain biking, fly fishing, zip-lining and Zoom Flume Water park. The nearest major international airports are in Boston and New York City.

Accommodation Details

This 3-level vacation home has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms and is set over 5 acres of land. The main floor has a chef’s kitchen, a dining room with an 18-ft oak table seating 22, a large great room with wet bar and fireplace, an indoor spa room with 8-person Jacuzzi and a large deck. The deck has a large grill and mountain views. This main floor also has a master suite with bathroom, sitting room and TV. The upper level has a master suite with bathroom and balcony, a loft living room with TV, 2 further bedrooms and a full bathroom. The remaining bedrooms and spaces are on the lower ground level and include an entertainment room with games, a large living room with wet bar and fireplace, a master suite with patio access and TV, and 3 further bedrooms and bathrooms. Outside space includes gardens, a swimming pond, a deck and an outdoor firepit.

Style Notes

Modern mountain lodge. This fabulous open and light-filled mountain house has alpine touches throughout and fixtures and fittings of the highest quality. Sitting on 5 beautiful acres with views of 4 of the highest peaks in the Catskills, the property is stunning, well located and ideally set up for a larger group stay. There is easily enough space and plenty of facilities for up to 4 families or a large extended family group. The kitchen includes a Wolf (professional grade) gas range and hood, 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers, granite countertops, and counter seating for 8. Design features through the house include knotless red cedar ceilings in the great room and main floor master bedroom, and rough cut cedar walls on the lower level. We love the thoughtful touches throughout, the wet bars in the living rooms, the high ceiling of the great room, and the spacious bedrooms.

We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.

My name is Derrek, my grandparents built The Mill Street Residence back in 1982 as a 25th anniversary present to each other so they could get away with their 4 children and their growing families. As the number of grandchildren grew and grew up, so did The Mill Street Residence through 2 major extensions/renovations and constant updates/improvements. A few years back, with most of the grandchildren grown up and busy and not using the house as much my grandfather said he was going to sell The Mill Street Residence, a place of so many wonderful memories and experiences. I along with my brother Keith took the initiative to market the house for other families to experience the magic of The Mill Street Residence, while also retaining the property for the next generation!
