Perks for the Parents

Tucked on the side of a quiet little hamlet near the village of St-Saturnin-lès-Apt, an hour west of Avignon, this converted shepherd’s stone house and barn has earned three Etoiles de France and is spacious and design-focused, ideal for multiple families traveling together. There is a fenced pool (unheated) and outdoor lounging, lawn, herb garden and restored vintage bicycles. Parents will love the private master suites, clawfoot tub, and cook’s kitchen with 6 burner range. Beautiful hiking and bike trails, scenic drives, farmer’s markets, gorgeous villages, and antique shops are all nearby.

Why Kids Love it

Set on a third of an acre lined with vineyards and oak tree-clad hills, kids will love the open spaces to roam. A lawn and ancient olive tree greet you by the pool, where you can sunbathe or play ball. Herbs can be harvested from the quaint square garden. The pool (unheated) includes a children's wading pool on one end. Bikes, children’s toys, books, puzzles, and a DVD player and WiFi are available to use, and 3 of the bedrooms include 2 twin beds each, making it an ideal set up for families.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. In July and August, the hosts accept bookings from Saturday to Saturday. WiFi is available in the entire house and bluetooth jambox speakers are in every adult bedroom. Bed/bath linens, pool towels and end-of-stay cleaning are included. For any stay longer than 1 week, 1 house cleaning will be included on Saturdays with all house linens replaced. A washing machine and extra fridge-freezer are available for guests. Babies are welcome and a high chair and portable baby crib will be installed upon request. The pool is fenced but does not have an alarm. Please note that the house is on 3 floors with steep staircases and very little railing; parental supervision is necessary for toddlers. Marseilles is the closest airport, just over an hour's drive away. Car rental essential.

About the Location

The house is in a tiny hamlet near St-Saturnin-lès-Apt, an off-the-beaten-path village on the slope of the Mount Vaucluse in the Luberon National Park. It has traditional cafés and authentic 5-star restaurants. Walk up to the castle for views over the Luberon and the water reservoir. Beautiful hiking and mountain biking trails await you straight from the property, up to the garrigue of Vaucluse. Easily explore nearby villages and town squares including Gordes, Oppede, Roussillon, Menerbes, Lacoste and Bonnieux, but also the more discrete hidden gems such as Goult, Joucas, Saignon and Lourmarin, along with architecture nestled among lavender fields, antique shops in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and Muscat tasting.

Accommodation Details

Enter this 3-story home into the living room with wood burning fireplace, a dining area seating 8 opening to the private terrace, fully equipped kitchen, entertainment room with TV/DVD and sofa, and an ensuite master bedroom with kingsize bed and private bathroom with clawfoot tub, opening onto the terrace. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms- 1 with queensize bed and 2 with 2 twins in each, and shared bathroom with shower. Downstairs you will find a family suite consisting of 2 bedrooms (1 queensize bed, 2 twin beds) and 2 separate bathrooms (1 with shower, 1 with tub), and sitting room with garden access.

Style Notes

Provençal charm. Once a shepherd’s stone house, this beautifully renovated family home is authentic and contemporary. A mix of traditional and modern design includes exposed stone walls, tadelakt, concrete floors, and wooden ceiling beams. Luxe linen bedding, clawfoot tubs, calming colors and oversized seating are some of our favorite luxuries. The large chef's kitchen and summer kitchen with a plancha are perfect for family meals to be enjoyed indoors or out, with 3 large tables each seating 6-8. We especially love the pool, herb gardens, and gorgeous views.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was well located and close to a cute village and we loved the outdoor kitchen. Some things to keep in mind if you are traveling with small children: the stairs are open and there is no railing, the pool was freezing so we didn’t get to use it much, and there were scorpions in the downstairs bedroom. We were assured that they would not harm us, but still, waking up to see some crawling on the walls was rather unsettling. Overall, we had a great time but could have done without the scorpion houseguests.

hello, we were a group of 8 adults and 6 children and we stayed for a week. The villa itself is gorgeous and the outdoor eating space and pool fantastic. There are lots of stairs in this property and no stair gates, which meant we had to be alert at all times with lots of toddlers running around! The nearby town is beautiful and it is very easy to explore the surrounding area with a car. We paid extra for daily cleaning, which was worth the money. The host was very responsive to any queries we had while at the property.
