Perks for the Parents

This historic stone cottage on 16 acres near Accord in the Hudson Valley is a relaxing rural retreat, surrounded by quiet woods, mountain views, and a private pond with canoe. High ceilings and a bright, carefully-designed interior is tasteful, warm and inviting, featuring a charming sunny kitchen and clawfoot tub. The area is a haven for lovers of nature and outdoor activities: ride bikes on a nice, smooth kid-friendly bike path at the nearby stunning Ashokan Reservoir, hike at Mohonk Mountain House and Preserve or the sprawling Minnewaska State Park.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love running around the large yard, catching frogs by the pond, and exploring the surrounding nature. They can play on the backyard swings, hammock and climbing rope, circle the pond on the property’s canoe, or use the bicycles (2 for small children, 2 for adults) for a family bike ride. There are plenty of toys and books available for indoor downtime.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The property is in a very rural area and is unfenced and close to both the road and the pond - children must be supervised. Two children's life vests provided for the canoe. The library features some animal skulls and taxidermy. The backyard is equipped with gas grill and dining table. Bicycles (2 children, 2 adult) and canoe provided. Interior stairs do not have safety gates. Note there is no TV in the house. WiFi and washer/dryer included; there are 2 small window air conditioning units in the upstairs guests rooms. There is no air conditioning in the primary bedroom, but the house, being stone, is quite cool most of the time and there is a ceiling fan in this room.

About the Location

The residence is around 10 minutes north of Accord in a rural part of the Hudson Valley. Nearby activities include world class hiking, exploring and swimming at Mohonk Preserve and Lake Minnewaska, and skiing at Belleayre, Hunter or Windham Mountains (each about 50 minutes away). There are plenty of local farms and farm stands, breweries such as Arrowood and Westwind with family friendly menus and activities, proximity to multiple charming towns, and a variety of locally-sourced restaurants. Play tennis or a round of golf at the nearby, newly opened Inness resort. There is a grocery store and pharmacy a 20-minute drive away in Stone Ridge along with restaurants and shops.

Accommodation Details

The property is set on 16 acres and includes an acre and a half of rolling back yard lawn and a private pond with canoe. Set over 2 floors, the downstairs includes a great room with fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, a living room with farm table seating 8, and a library and toy room. The downstairs bathroom has a rain shower. All bedrooms are located upstairs: a primary bedroom with queensize bed, children's bedroom with twin beds, and guest bedroom with a queensize bed. Two blow-up beds are available as well. The upstairs bathroom has clawfoot tub.

Style Notes

Historic, bright and airy. This stone cottage has unusually high ceilings and many windows revealing the breathtaking backdrop. The interior is tastefully classic, featuring a charming kitchen with open shelves and farmhouse table, luxurious clawfoot tub, working fireplace, and exposed beams on the sloped master ceiling. We love the antique train station bench, museum-like mahogany library, and the many outdoor adventures to explore nearby.

Brittain & Rina have been loving the rural life in Accord since 2005 and have managed to infuse their "city" kids with a healthy dose of country life.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Boodle Residence. The hosts were so responsive, accommodating of our questions/needs, and we felt very well taken care of. The house itself is a treasure, both so old that you feel as though you’re stepping back in time but with the most tasteful, modern decor and accoutrements. We enjoyed every second, from the badminton and fireflies to the canoe and bow and arrows. Thank you to Brittain and Rina for having us.

We had a delightful stay at Rina's home, which is very comfortable and beautifully designed. We appreciated all of the recommendations Rina shared with us prior to our trip (Westwind Orchard is a must!), as well as her responsiveness throughout our stay. We loved the setting of Rina's home -- in particular, the lovely backyard and patio. We were a bit surprised by how speedily cars drive on the road by the house so needed to be extra vigilant with small children -- but otherwise the house was very kid-friendly and my daughter enjoyed reading all of the kid's books and playing with toys in the playroom. We hope to return someday!

Our family stayed here over a snowy, long weekend. House was very comfortable because so thoughtfully furnished and cozy. Kids loved sledding and exploring the quiet property. Felt we were in a special period house, beautifully renovated and clean. Hosts gave helpful advice before and after arrival, they were easy to reach and responsive to questions. Highly recommended for a quiet weekend with school-aged kids.

The house is well laid out, well apportioned and cozy! The grounds are stunning and perfect for a trip in any season. Rina was an amazing host and very responsive. Our kids ages 1.5 and 3 were a little young to take full advantage but that is not a comment on the house at all, and for slightly older kids this is a superb place to be.

We had a lovely fall getaway at the Boodle residence with our 5yo, 2yo, and 3 month old. The house is beautiful, clean and spacious. The kids enjoyed playing in the backyard and exploring around the pond on the property. We visited the nearby apple orchard and farm. Host was responsive and answered all my questions leading up to our arrival. Hope to visit again next fall.

The Boodle Residence was an amazing experience with our three boys (8, 6, and 3). My husband and I actually got a chance to relax, while the boys ran, played, and explored. The family room was well-stocked with kids games and toys, and the pond with canoe was a daily (several times a day) excursion. THANK YOU for sharing your home with us!

We were two families with two children each and I must say, this was truly one of the most authentic and fun vacations ever! Starting with the house itself - the interior design was tastefully done - an old charm feel with modern amenities such as the bathrooms and kitchen. The kids loved the toys and the parents loved the espresso machine (with the hosts' exacting details on how to use it :)) We would love to visit again in the coming years!

We stayed a weekend at the Boodle Residence with another family - 4 adults and 3 kids in all - and had a wonderful time! The house was clean, well stocked, beautifully decorated and homey! We took full advantage of the grill, huge backyard (the swings were especially popular) and nearby farms. We hope to visit the Boodle residence again soon!

We had such a lovely stay at the Boodle Residence. The house was charming and perfectly styled, yet comfortable. We enjoyed the Fall weekend with both the outdoor fire pit and indoor wood-burning fireplace and found all that we needed in the kitchen to cook hearty meals. Not set up for a baby per se, but I had a one-year-old and it worked out perfectly with a travel crib in the kids room. Rina was available to answer all of my questions and checked up upon our arrival. I would highly recommend!

We had an amazing fall weekend at the Boodle residence - we were four adults and four kids aged 2-5, and everybody had the best time. The house is beautiful and with very stylish interior - yet still super practical and convenient with lots of toys for the kids, a perfectly equipped kitchen and lovely surroundings (my daughter would not leave the swings and the hammocks!). It's a great starting point for a day trip to the Minnewaska State Park, a local farm or winery etc. and then come back to BBQ and s'mores by the fire pitafterwards. Rina, our host, was super nice and really helpful with all of our questions, so highly recommend this house!
