Perks for the Parents

This beautiful country bolthole with a beach house vibe sleeps up to 6 and borders the Hazelwood Marshes nature reserve on the Alde estuary, on the edge of Aldeburgh. The garden is perfect for den building and exploring while its location on the historic Sailors Path and quiet country lanes nearby call out for family cycle rides and blackberry picking along the hedgerows. The kids room sleeps up to 3 plus a baby and there are 2 further double bedrooms, all kitted out with high quality linens. We love the relaxed vintage-style decor and the wide open spaces. For a break from the city - London is around 2 hours away - you couldn't find a more idyllic spot.

Why Kids Love it

There is great provision for kids of all ages. The house has a crib with bedding plus a high chair for babies, along with toys, books and games for all. The spacious garden has a 14ft trampoline, rope swing and outdoor games plus patio, outdoor seating and BBQ. The kids room has a double bed and single bunk over it, sleeping up to 3 plus a crib. There are clear skies for star watching on summer nights. Nearby attractions include pebble beaches, a boat pond in Aldeburgh and the arts center at Snape Maltings.

Things to Know

Minimum stay varies throughout the year: for the peak summer weeks check in must be on a Saturday for either 7 or 14 nights; 3 nights at all other times. No significant hazards for small children although there is a steep staircase to the loft bedroom, which isn’t ideal for younger children. Check out is 10am or by arrangement. The house is surrounded by quiet country lanes and paths ideal for family cycling. The kitchen features a professional range with induction hobs. Bathrooms are stocked with organic products; luxurious linens and towels are also provided, they both have bathtubs. The house also offers full fibre (FTTP) broadband. The area is wonderful for cycling. Please bring your own bikes or hire them locally (details can be provided after booking). Please note that no pets are allowed at the property.

About the Location

The cottage is on the outskirts of Aldeburgh, which is a 30 minute walk or shorter bike ride away. There is a lovely walk to Snape Maltings, an arts center with boutiques and cafes, taking about an hour, and less by bike. The property is next to Hazlewood Marshes nature reserve, a dynamic wetlands habitat with a bird hide, and it's just a few minutes' walk to Aldeburgh Golf Course. The closest pebbly beach is in the centre of Aldeburgh. The closest train stations are in Ipswich or Saxmundham; car rental is essential for this destination. The closest airport is London Stansted, 1 hour 30 minutes away.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house includes an open plan lounge-diner with wood burner, compact kitchen with professional grade range, Smeg fridge and a large garden. Bedrooms comprise a master bedroom with double bed and ensuite bathroom with claw-foot tub, a second bedroom with double bed, third bedroom with bunk bed (double with single over it), and a loft room, accessed up stairs, with double futon. The family bathroom has a shower, bathtub and vintage white ceramic sink.

Style Notes

Beach house bolt hole. This country retreat has vintage and Scandinavian touches, exposed brickwork walls and plenty of fresh white details. Local art features throughout, and an array of beautiful items make cooking in the kitchen a joy. We love the cozy bedrooms, subway tiled bathroom and the fantastic location with views of the Alde estuary and Suffolk fields.

I'm a lawyer living in East Anglia with my partner Ashley, who hails from the US, and our two children. We all fell in love with White Cottage when we first stayed there a couple of years ago when our kids were very young; after repeat visits we bought it! We hope you too love White Cottage ...

Aldeburgh, Suffolk

Fish'n'chips and pocket money treats

Pretty Aldeburgh is holiday heaven for kids: with thatched cottages, a pebbly beach and a pond for sailing miniature boats in, it’s great fun. Cycle quiet lanes, eat fish’n’chips on the beach and don’t miss Snape Maltings for pocket money treats and Thorpeness for a 1950s-style Peter Pan-themed boating lake.

A beautiful bolthole - the kids' bedroom was stocked with fabulous books and toys and being able to relax on the sofa whilst they enjoyed the spoils of the garden, trampoline and playhouse was heavenly. The cottage is perfect for a relaxed getaway - an ideal location to explore neighbouring towns and tranquil for lazy evenings. We'll definitely be back!

This is a gorgeous little cottage, in a fantastic location just outside Aldeburgh. I stayed here with a friend and out 5 children and they had a wonderful time running around the garden. Beautifully decorated and a real home from home.
