Perks for the Parents

This spacious family home just outside Lagos, Portugal features a stunning infinity pool and spectacular views of the Algarve. It sleeps 10 +1. Parents will love the huge outdoor terrace (the ideal spot for a morning coffee or a sunset glass of wine) and there’s plenty of space for the whole family to roam and play, inside and outside. The primary bedroom has a large Jacuzzi bath in the ensuite - perfect for a peaceful soak after a busy day exploring the local areas - and there are 2 guest bedrooms to allow extra room for families traveling with grandparents or an au pair. Ask the hosts about extra concierge services: they’re happy to arrange massages at the property, babysitters, private chefs (who can set up an arrival BBQ box), yoga lessons, local surf lessons, boat trips, cycling, kayaking or fishing trips.

Why Kids Love it

This villa has everything you could wish for to keep your children entertained while you enjoy the sunshine. There is a large garden with a huge sunken trampoline, a table tennis table, a basketball hoop, plenty of board games and an infinity pool. For adventurous types, ask the hosts about local wake-boarding camps for kids. For chill out days, each bedroom has lots of books for children aged 2+, as well as 4 TVs (with cable) and both a Wii and a PlayStation 3 games console in the living room. The hosts also have lots of baby and toddler essentials: a baby monitor, children’s utensils, a high chair and travel crib are all available on request. For outings, kids will love the Adventure golf in Alvor, the Parque Aventura (adventure playground) in Lagos and the waterslide parks and Zoomarine about 30 mins away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. The owners are repeat hosts with Kid & Coe, who have fantastic reviews from their previous London home. Safety notes: the villa has lots of stairs (although stair gates may be provided on request) and the pool is not fenced, so young children and babies should be supervised. Pool heating will cost €20 a day. There is parking available for 3 cars - car rental is recommended although Uber is widely available. The house comes with air conditioning, dishwasher, a bean-to-cup coffee machine, washer/dryer, TV, DVD player and WiFi.

About the Location

The villa is located in a quiet area, between the marina town of Lagos and the fishing village of Alvor, on the Algarve in Portugal. The local village of Odiaxere is a 5-minute drive and has some lovely local restaurants and a picturesque windmill. It’s a 5-minute drive from the beach of Meia Praia and 20 minutes from Alvor beach - both of which have beach bars and water sports. Faro airport is a 45-minute drive away. Portugal is very child friendly and all the restaurants and cafes welcome children: the hosts are happy to share their knowledge of local hidden gems and where to find best restaurants. Further afield, the whole family will love a trip to Lagos Zoo (15 minutes’ drive) and parents will love exploring the historic town squares of Lagos old town.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. Upstairs, there is a large open plan living room and dining room, plus a fully-equipped kitchen, all leading on to a wrap-around terrace with panoramic views over the infinity pool and the Algarve countryside. Downstairs, there are 3 ensuite adult bedrooms: 1 with a kingsize bed, the others with 2 single beds which can be made up as a kingsize. The remaining 2 children’s bedrooms both have single beds with additional single trundle beds underneath. Each bedroom leads to the pool area outside. Also outside, there is an outdoor kitchen with a fridge and sink for poolside BBQ's, as well as a gas BBQ upstairs on the terrace outside the kitchen, together with an outdoor dining area.

Style Notes

Sleek yet homely. This villa has been designed by local architect Mario Martins, with a layout to maximise the breathtaking views. It is light, airy and comfortable, with a large practical kitchen and wonderful outside spaces. The bedrooms are neutrally decorated for a relaxing calm vibe and they each have sliding door out to the pool and outside area - perfect for looking out over the view as you wake each morning. The living room is cozy with large chesterfields and an open fireplace for the short winter months. We love the geometric leather armchair, the gorgeous mosaic tiles in the bathroom and the beach-inspired artwork, referencing the coastal location.

We are a family of 3 who moved from London to the sunny Algarve at the end of 2021 We purchased our villa and have been busy putting our energies into making it our home. The villa is in-between the beautiful marina town of Lagos and the busy Fishing village of Alvor, which is a welcome change from the busy London life we had before. Its so nice to "pop" to the beach for a quick surf after work. In ordinary times we travel quite a bit with work. We like the Kid & Coe concept as it has allowed us the home comforts while we enjoy the sights wherever work takes us. If the dates you are looking for are not available please feel free to reach out, as we may be able to accommodate you.

We had a fantastic time at Casa Icarus, the Villa is absolutely stunning, set beautifully on a hillside for wonderful evening sunsets. Its an easy 10min drive to Lagos centre, with a couple of local shops and a restaurant within 5mins. Stephanie was a fantastic host, providing detailed information leading up to our stay and made it clear that they were easily contactable for anything we needed, she even left a few treats and some essentials for us and the kids on arrival, which was a very kind gesture! The well equipped Kitchen was very convenient and made our stay very easy for any cooking we did. I really can't speak highly enough of the villa, and how helpful the family were when we had some travel disruptions. It has a really lovely, homely feel, which you don't often get from other villas

Algarve, Portugal

Beaches, golf and sunshine

If you like golf, sunshine and beaches, you’ll love the Algarve. Portugal’s sunny spot gets 3,000 hours of sunny blue skies every year and entertains far more sun seekers than that on its highly accessible sandy beaches. For an easy beach break from just about everywhere in Europe, look no further. Beyond the beach, kids love the water slides at Aqualand, boat trips and meeting the monkeys at Zoo de Lagos.
