Perks for the Parents

This 3-floor family apartment in the east of Amsterdam is close to the city center along with a green park, local restaurants and shops, and is great for a family stay with young children. It has a full kitchen and family-sized dining area plus direct access to a child-friendly courtyard where kids can play and bike. Two adult and 2 children’s bikes are available to use. The residence has a family bathroom with a bathtub for the kids. There is an additional room that can be used as a bedroom on the lower floor ideal for a nanny/grandparents/au pair. A 15-minute walk away there is an ice skating rink where you can rent skates and enjoy a hot chocolate afterwards.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of toys and books for girls and boys from age 3-10, and has toddler and baby toys available. It is a great family space with a living room large enough for wheeled toys. Kids can fish from the private terrace in the water surrounding the building. In the winter, if the temperature is low enough, the surface will turn into ice, and ice skating and sledding is possible. The residence is a short walk from local playgrounds, a natural playground in the Flevopark and 2 mini zoos. In the summer you can visit the outdoor swimming pool in the park and in the winter there is an indoor swimming pool nearby.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. There are stairs but no stair gates. No pets allowed. There is a private garage, directly accessible from lower floor. Car rental not required: the apartment is close to good public transit links into Amsterdam itself. A crib, high chair, and a baby bath can be provided on request. The Plantage area is a 10-minute tram ride away and includes Artis, Amsterdam zoo. Also on this side of the city, you’ll find the Dappermarkt, Tropenmuseum (ethnographic museum) and science center NEMO.

About the Location

The residence is in Amsterdam East, a residential district between the Amstel River in the west and the IJ in the east. The neighborhood is diverse and well connected with Amsterdam at large, with 3 train stations nearby (the nearest 2 are a 10-minute walk) and several bus and tramway stops for a quick journey into Central Amsterdam. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the center of the city. It is walking distance from a shopping center and a broad variety of restaurants. The house is approximately 20 minutes by car from Schiphol Airport.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom 3-floor apartment has an open plan lounge and kitchen area on the mid-floor. On the top-floor there is a master bedroom, 2 children’s bedroom suitable for ages 3 and up and a bathroom with shower and bathtub. There is also a possibility to use 2 extra beds on the lower floor. There is direct access to a kid-friendly courtyard from the mid-floor and a private terrace from the lower floor.

Style Notes

Bright and modern. This modern townhouse is bright with lots of lights due to the big windows, which is the key feature of the house. It is Scandinavian-style with white and grey tones and wooden accessories. The big wooden dining table with its white leather chairs is the natural gathering spot in the house. We love the pretty green terrace, the spacious family lounge and the lovely range of toys.

We are an active Dutch-Swedish family living in Amsterdam. We love to sport and can be found on the football pitch, the ski slope, the tennis court and in the swimning pool. The city of Amsterdam is great fun for all of us and when we have a day off we enjoy one of the many museums in the town or we take the bike to a nice nearby café or restaurant to chill out. Travelling has always been an important part in our life. We love to be active in the mountains but also visiting interesting cities or spending the day at the beach.

Ann-Christine is a great host and this is a lovely home in a good location to the east of the centre. Very close to tram stops to take a quick tram into town. The house is beautiful, very clean and has everything you could wish for. Ann-Christine is very friendly, really easy to reach and has made us all feel very welcome. I highly recommend this residence. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay in the apartment. The location is great (close to the tram and supermarkets) and our kids loved playing with all the toys. The apartment has a relaxed atmosphere and it is really nice to come home to after a long day of walking in Amsterdam. Ann Christine was an excellent host. We definitely hope to come back some day!

The stay at Ann-Christine's house was perfect in every way. Bed were comfortable, house was clean and well stocked and the area was nice and quite/family friendly. It was a bit of a way out from the central tourist stuff (about a 20 min uber/metro ride), but that was what we were looking for. Ann-Christine was a pleasure to work with and very helpful in assisting us with plans in Amsterdam and choosing restaurants. One comment I would make is that I think the kids bedrooms are ideal for kids 12or 13 and under as they beds are a bit on the smaller side (depends how tall your kids are). All beds were really comfortable for us.

We stayed in this residence for a long weekend with our 3 children and had the best time! This apartment is just lovely and perfect for a family city break. It is light, airy, spotless, spacious and filled with all the amenities you could ever need. The children loved the kids toys in the children’s bedrooms, it really felt like a home from home. The apartment is located just outside the centre - about a 15 minute tram ride away, but transport links are good and there is a bus stop just outside the residence and a tram stop a short walk away. Even better, rent some bikes, a great way to get around Amsterdam & there is plenty of storage to keep them at the residence. We can’t fault the apartment in any way and would definitely come again!

We are a family of 5 (3 kids aged 14, 12 and 7) and we came for a week-end in Amsterdam in December. The apartment is really great: a lot of space, quiet, very agreeable, very comfortable beds. Children were very happy to find games to play with. We really felt at home. The location is not very central, but accessible with public transport, and there are very nice walks from there. It was very nice to communicate with Ann-Christine and to see how helpful she was: she gave us advice on what to visit, which restaurant to try. We totally recommend Carolina Macgillavrylaan Residence.

We loved our stay at the Carolina Macgillavrylaan Residence. It is a beautiful apartment and was the perfect base for us during our 4 day trip to Amsterdam. We visited as a group of 6 — 4 adults + 2 kids aged 4 and 7 — and there was plenty of space. It was a short walk public transport and only a 15 minute bus trip into the centre of Amsterdam. Ann-Christine is a fantastic host. Her tips were excellent – our kids loved the local pizza place (da Portare VIA) and had the best time at the NEMO science museum. Communication with Ann-Christine was very easy. We would definitely recommend the Carolina Macgillavrylaan Residence and would love to stay again ourselves one day.

We are a family of 4 (2 kids aged 6 and 2) and we visited as part of a tour around The Netherlands. The apartment was really fantastic, plenty of space and very quiet and tranquil. It was a very quick and easy bike ride into central Amsterdam but also lovely local neighbourhood. The secure on-site parking made life very easy. Our whole family had a great time, would definitely stay again. Ann-Christine was really helpful and responsive. I would definitely recommend Carolina Macgillavrylaan Residence.
