The residence has plenty of toys and books for kids under 12. The family spaces include a living room with a fireplace. Kids will love the bunk bed room on the lower level, which has 2 bunk beds and sleeps 4. The location makes it easy with younger children also: it’s 50m from the Gemsstock ski slopes and a 10-minute walk to the Nätschen ski slopes which has an amazing Ski School and Kids Snow Park. There are no provisions for babies/toddlers but you could bring or rent a high chair and crib.

About the Location

The residence is in the heart of Andermatt, around 500m from the bakeries and grocery shops in the old town and 50 m from the Gemsstock Ski Slope gondola. It is an easy location for a family, walking distance both from facilities and ski slopes. Andermatt is a village in the canton of Uri in Switzerland and it takes about 90 minutes to reach from either Zurich or Lugano, by car or train. Car rental is useful but not essential, with much walkable nearby.

Style Notes

Modern chalet. Tradition meets modernism in this stunning penthouse apartment, where materials such as warm woods and natural stone creates an intimate and comfortable contemporary space. The attractive living, dining and kitchen area is unified by a cozy wood-burning fireplace. Modern antler lampshades in the main living space are set beside pine, and throw pillows emblazoned ‘Eat, Sleep, Ski’ and ‘Eat, Ski, Love’ remind you what you’re here for. We love the Sean Connery and vintage ski posters.

We are The Gallaghers. My husband Liam and I (Julie) are both South Africans born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. We now live overseas in Switzerland with our two daughters, Zara and Bailey and go "home" frequently to visit our families living in Johannesburg and Cape Town. We equally love the sun and the snow and all the sport and activities that go with each one. I joined Kid & Coe so other families could enjoy our holiday home in Cape Town and experience South Africa - "our beloved country". Or ski the alps in our holiday apartment in Andermatt, Switzerland.

Stylish and spacious for our family of four, Julie's Swiss Family Chalet was so comfortable and so special. The local management company made sure our arrival was easy. The James Bond themed-bedroom was a highlight, and it's hard not to geek out at the scene from Goldfinger *right outside your window*. Our school-age kids enjoyed the abundant variety of board and card games, and we appreciated the well-appointed kitchen. Andermatt was incredibly charming in the off-season, and we are so glad we had the chance to stay here.

Andermatt, Swiss Alps

Get off piste

Located at 1,500m and surrounded by 3,000m mountains, Andermatt offers some of the best skiing in the Alps. Particularly well known for its off-piste and ski touring, the town is about 90 minutes from Zurich and is regularly touted as one of the best places in the region for visiting with kids. Try ice skating, carriage rides and skiing, and don’t miss the many great places to eat in the old town itself.
