Perks for the Parents

This charismatic 1920s bungalow in the historic Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta is a short drive to the urban big-ticket downtown attractions. It is a 2-minute walk away from Gilliam Park, which has a bike trail and community garden. The house itself is a riot of colour and design and akin to easy family living with big open plan spaces and a playroom packed with toys for little ones. Relax at the charming and colorful house or explore sights of downtown Atlanta.

Why Kids Love it

Children of all ages will feel at home in this house, packed with every possible toy for older kids, plus swings and playthings for babies and toddlers. There are Lego sets, Apple TV and a DVD collection. In the back yard you'll find a trampoline, trees to climb and a wooden play structure with a slide. Older kids will love toasting marshmallows on the flames in the firepit. Kirkwood is safe and very green with 5 parks to play in. Guests can borrow bikes to explore.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days. The house is all on 1 level so guests with a baby or toddler don’t have to worry about stairs gates. However, please note there are external steps leading to the front door. Pets are welcome as long as they are housebroken; a pet deposit is required. A dog usually lives at the property but will be away when you visit. Car rental is recommended. There is air conditioning and a nanny/babysitter is available on request.

About the Location

The residence is in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, a 25-minute drive from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Kirkwood is a quiet, residential area, 5 minutes' drive to the hip neighborhood of Little Five Points with eclectic vintage and vinyl shops, a live music venue and burger joints. Within easy driving distance you can take a guided tour of Martin Luther King’s childhood home, stroll around Atlanta's modern High Museum of Art, or find family thrills at the theme park Stone Mountain.

Accommodation Details

The bungalow has 3 bedrooms and 1 family bathroom and is laid out over 1 floor. The kitchen and living/dining rooms are open plan. The master bedroom with a kingsize bed is located just down the hall from the children's room, which has a bunk bed with a full/double lower bed below and a single bed on top. The playroom doubles as another bedroom with a single bed. There is an airbed that sleeps 2 and a travel crib available. Outside, there are 2 grills, a firepit, a trampoline and a pirate ship play structure.

Style Notes

Designer cool. This Southern home is quirky and cultured with no shortage of warmth and color. The deep blue and grey kitchen pops against the orange breakfast bar chairs. One wall is decorated with black and white cityscape wallpaper and the master bedroom has soft florals and patterns beautifully offset against pastel walls. We love the leafy front yard, the colorful, practical kitchen with Cuisinart appliances, and the master closet that, rather marvelously, has pink walls, a gold ceiling and a spinning disco ball.

Everything's peachy

You'll be surprised at how much there is for kids to do in Atlanta. Kids over 12 can actually swim with sharks in the world’s largest aquarium; marvel at real life teddy bears, er, Panda Bears, at Atlanta Zoo, or splash in Olympic themed waterfalls at the Centenniel Olympic Park. And that’s not all: there’s also a great children’s museum, a puppetry center, the Coca-Cola museum and an American Civil War spot to visit. Stone Mountain Park is one of the biggest outdoor attractions, and there’s history to be remembered at the Martin Luther King Jnr National Historic Site.
