Perks for the Parents
A stylish, centrally located residence with a private pool, minutes walk from Stacy Park and vibrant Congress Avenue. It sleeps 6 + 3. Home to a family of 4, there’s plenty to entertain the kids with play spaces both inside and out, and chill out zones for the parents too including a furnished balcony terrace with views of downtown Austin and the hill country. Each bedroom has use of its own bathroom, with an en-suite in the primary and a large family bathroom with a bathtub for bathing the little ones. The third bedroom is on a floor of its own, ideal for teens seeking their own den space, or an accompanying nanny. The backyard has a lovely outdoor pool with a jacuzzi and sun deck, and there’s a shaded alfresco dining terrace for laid back days at home. The residence’s central location is a real plus, with buzzy congress avenue a short walk away and downtown Austin within easy reach.
Why Kids Love it
There’s plenty to occupy kids of all ages here with toys, books and an Apple TV in the third-floor bedroom for creating their own movie den. Outside there’s the outdoor pool, which is heated during the cooler months, as well as various balls and equipment to borrow. A new spring-free trampoline has recently been installed for young, and older, bouncers (which also has a basketball hoop). For kids in need of a run around, Stacy Park is just a few blocks walk away with several playgrounds, biking paths and plenty of space to let off steam. A little further is Lady Bird Lake with its riverside boardwalk perfect for scooters, bikes and picnics by the water, and for those keen to dive in, Barton springs river park offers swimming and kayaking, a short drive away. The hosts can provide a crib, highchair, baby bath and bed rails on request.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 6 nights. The residence is set over 3 floors without an elevator. Please note that there are several internal staircases; there is a baby gate installed on the main floor, but no gate on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The backyard is fully fenced and gated so kids can roam freely in and out; younger ones should be supervised when outside however as the pool area is ungated. There is excellent WiFi, and air conditioning throughout the residence. The garage space has been recently repurposed as an office, gym and storage space – please let the hosts know if you wish to have access to this, otherwise it will be locked. There are 2 airbeds available on request for sleeping additional guests and there is currently a crib set up in the second bedroom. There is private parking on the driveway and ample space to park along the street across from the house; there is good public transport and local taxis if you don’t have a car. Small dogs are welcome; there is a dog door installed for garden access.
About the Location
The residence is located in the Travis Heights neighborhood, a unique and charming mix of new, modern houses and quaint bungalows, just 2 miles from downtown Austin (10 minute’ drive). Big and Little Stacy Parks are within walking distance of the house, the latter being the closest just 3 minutes away. It’s a short walk to the very popular South Congress shopping and restaurant district, full of neighborhood cafes and boutiques. It’s a 25 minute walk to the Ladybird Lake Boardwalk, where you can walk or bike along the riverside to the Butler Metro Park for the open air theater or pitch-and-putt, or a little further for the Zilker Botanical Gardens and the Austin Nature & Science Center. The closest international airport is Austin-Bergstrom, around 15 minutes’ drive; the Austin TX train station is 9 minutes by car.
Accommodation Details
The residence has 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. Downstairs, there is a large open-plan kitchen-diner and living room. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a large American fridge, a dishwasher and an island with bar stool seating for 3. A circular table seating 4 sits in the mid zone, with a cozy living room at the far end with sofas, a large TV and bookshelves. There is a cloakroom on this floor, a powder room, and a laundry area with a washer and a dryer. The second floor houses the primary bedroom with a kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, as well as a second bedroom with a queensize bed, a crib and a separate bathroom with a large bathtub. The third floor contains the third bedroom with a queensize bed, a separate shower room, and a roof terrace with a sofa. The basement garage has recently been converted into additional living space incorporating a sofa, gym, workspace and mini bar (access to this is by request). The backyard space includes a shaded alfresco dining deck with sofa and a table seating, as well as a large swimming pool and spa surrounded by a sun patio with loungers and chairs.
Style Notes
Modern metro. Recently remodelled with an eye for the smart and contemporary, this light, bright residence offers plenty of comfort and space. The hosts have embraced simple, Scandinavian aesthetics, with white walls and wood floors, uplifted with pops of color from textiles and wall art. Furniture is modern and chic, with pieces from West Elm, CB2 and Article. Bathrooms exude luxury and character with handpicked floor and wall tiles, large sinks and a decadent soaking tub in the family suite. We love the outside space here – from the third floor’s balcony terrace with metro tiles, and views out over the city and hills, to the cosmopolitan garden with its alfresco hangout deck and large spa-pool for cooling down after a day out exploring the city scene.
