This smart and contemporary holiday home in Ostend on the Flemish coast has a private terrace with direct access to the beach. It sleeps up to 10. Situated in a trendy neighborhood of Ostend near the Old Military Hospital, the villa has high ceilings and spacious accommodation for a family get-together or 2 families travelling together. The large dining table is great for sociable meals and the dyke, dunes and sea are within a few minutes’ walk. Chilled drinks and tea and coffee are included.

Why Kids Love it

There’s a big playground with tubes and climbing walls in the dunes, 400 meters from Villa Plage. On the sea front, rain or shine, you can hire go-carts and build sandcastles. Just a 7-minute walk, Hangtime is a mega-sized indoor trampoline park with bungee-style hammocks for fly yoga, and a place where children can design their own dynamic play space. Kids will also enjoy exploring Fort Napoleon, the polygonal fort built in the Napoleonic era and recently restored.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Check-in with a keypad. This rental includes towels, bed linens, shower soap and shampoo, an end of stay clean (up to €150), WiFi, TV with YouTube and Netflix, and tea and coffee. Please note that there are no toys or games for kids at the house so you may want to pack your own. The site is car-free, but loading and unloading is possible next to the house. There are also 10 adult bicycles for guests to borrow during the stay. Villa Plage is located on a car-free site on the beach of Ostend but there is 1 underground parking space and additional cars can be parked for free on the street. Please note that children should be carefully supervised on ladders to the mezzanine level in the bedrooms. These rooms are not suitable for children under 6. Rooms with twin beds are currently set up as kings.

About the Location

Villa Plage is located in a car-free green site just next to Oosteroever beach on the east bank of the city of Ostend, Flanders in Belgium. Ten minutes’ walk away is a free ferry that will take you to the city center. It can also be reached by bike or on foot via the dyke. Nearby is Phare East (a great beach bar) and Twins (surf and volleyball club). Trams run every 10 to 15 minutes from Ostend train station to the house. There are lovely cycle routes to nearby sites: the city of Bruges is 21km away with cycling along the canal, Bredene is 1.5km, while De Haan is 7.5km and can be reached by cycling through the dunes. Oostende-Brugge International Airport is 15 minutes away by taxi.

Accommodation Details

This holiday residence has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on 3 floors. On the ground floor are the entrance, a storage room, a half bathroom, a kingsize bedroom and a full bathroom with a king-size shower and single washbasin. On the 1st floor (with stairs to the garden) is the open plan living area with a kitchen, breakfast bar, sofa and dining table seating up to 10. The 2nd floor contains the other bedrooms: bedroom 2 has a kingsize bed with 1 twin bed on a mezzanine level; bedroom 3 is kingsize with 1 twin bed on a mezzanine level; and bedroom 4 has a kingsize bed. There is a bathroom on this floor with double sinks, a bath and a shower. There is a private south-facing garden overlooking the dunes with a large dining table and chairs and a barbecue. In the garden there is a fence that gives direct access to the dunes, the dike, the beach and the sea. It is one of the few places along the Belgian coast where you can stay directly on the beach.

Style Notes

Practical, spacious and modern. This holiday home is in a historic building that was once a former military hospital. It is a great space for get-togethers next to the sea with plenty of opportunities for beach fun and cycling tours. The décor is minimal with pale wood tables and chairs and dark furniture. There are large windows in the main living space that let in lots of natural light and many of the bedrooms are in the loft. We love the free espressos, made from locally roasted beans; the Sonos music system, the fridge full of chilled drinks and the use of 10 classic Dutch bikes – perfect for exploring.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
