Perks for the Parents

Walking distance from the dunes, wild horses and the beach, this beautiful home has recently been completely renovated with an eye for design, sustainability and natural materials. It is great for families with younger kids and includes a play house, electric bikes and woods next door. It sleeps up to 3 adults, 2 children, 2 toddlers and a baby. Kids will enjoy playing in the house and in the direct surroundings in a completely carefree way. The additional bedroom on the first floor is ideal for a nanny or au pair. The house is in a green and natural area with lots of outdoor and cultural activities for families to enjoy nearby, and Amsterdam is an easy train ride away for a day trip. Set next to the dunes, there are also swimming lakes nearby.

Why Kids Love it

Children will love to play in the wooden playhouse downstairs or go through the little magic gate in the garden to reach an open field for play. The home is located next to the woods, with the beaches of Bloemendaal and Zandvoort biking distance away. Go hiking in the dunes (only 5 minutes away by bike), swim in the beautiful Oosterplas or Wed lakes or take the train to Amsterdam for the day. The kitchen has a Quooker providing instant hot water for baby bottles, a crib/cot is available and the bathroom on the first floor has a bath ideal for children.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: summer months one week, all other times 3 days. The house is safe for young children. The garden is completely enclosed with a gate; all windows (except in the master bedroom) have locks. Please note that the basement has a steep staircase, so it's best to keep the door to the basement closed. Guests are welcome to use the host’s electric bicycles - each seats 2 kids. Car rental not essential with a train station a 5-minute walk away running to both the airport and multiple other destinations in the Netherlands.

About the Location

The home is walking distance from Bloemendaal village, which has grocery stores and a bakery, is surrounded by woods and close to dunes, beaches, and hiking trails. Culture, in Amsterdam and Haarlem, is within easy reach - Amsterdam is 30 minutes by car. The nearest train station is a 5-minute walk away, and trains reach Amsterdam Central Station within 25 minutes. You can bike to the beaches of Bloemendaal or Zandvoort where there are great places to relax and dine. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is 50 minutes away by train and 30 minutes by car.

Accommodation Details

This semi-detached beach house has a large living room with ample seating on a cozy sofa, a vintage rocking chair and a design forward wooden chair next to the fireplace (with glass shield door). The open plan kitchen with breakfast bar features a modern AGA stove and a very large indoor/outdoor dining table next to doors that open to the garden. On the first floor you will find the primary bedroom with kingsize bed and bathroom with shower and bath, plus a separate toilet. There is also a large second bedroom/ study with a comfortable double sofa bed. An extra toddler bed and baby crib are available. On the second floor there are 2 lovely kids bedrooms, one with a bunk bed and 1 with a toddler bed and a separate bathroom with a shower and toilet.

Style Notes

Warm minimalism. The clean and spacious interior mixes warm natural elements like wool, wood and felt with mid century vintage design and modern, playful elements. There is a vintage rocking chair next to the fireplace, and warm and playful colored walls in the kids rooms. Views from the living room stretch over an open field with the most fantastic light to enjoy. There is also a special permaculture-designed edible garden where you can find your daily pick of berries, strawberries and apples. We love the design and beautiful wooden toys.

We heard about your website from our friends when we were still living in the centre of Amsterdam. We are a family with 2 boys, they are 6 year old identical twins called Otto and Gijs. We are both entrepreneurs (Frank is a producer of kids television and film) and I'm founder and marketing manager at Wholebrands, a holistic marketing and communication agency for social entrepreneurs. We love to travel, but find it hard to find places where we can really relax with the kids. We are open for exploring a lot of destinations, I especially love Italy and Rome in particular. We have a fantastic home in Bloemendaal, close to the beaches, dunes and just a 25 minute train ride from the centre of Amsterdam.

Bloemendaal, Outside Amsterdam

Beach, dunes and woods

Under an hour from Amsterdam by train or car, this seaside resort is perfectly positioned for fun by the sea and really has it all: beach, dunes, woods and proximity to Amsterdam. There is outdoor fun for kids and parents and also great culture and restaurants nearby. It's a lovely spot from which to explore all the Netherlands has to offer.
