Perks for the Parents

Bright and sunny with spectacular views of the slopes, this quiet, residential home in the charming historic district of Breckenridge, is surrounded by aspens and ideal for family stays. The home is designed around family, with a bunk room, high chair, portable crib, and children’s dinnerware. Walk 2 blocks to the ski bus, 5 blocks to the slopes or easily drive to one of the many world-class ski resorts for winter snow or summer alpine sliding.

Why Kids Love it

Perfect for kids both indoors and outdoors, they’ll love the bunk room built for 4, cozy fire, building legos in the basement, or reading on the deck. Build snow forts in the winter, bike and skateboard in the quiet, residential street in the summer, or venture to Carter Park, 2 blocks away, for a great playground, sledding hill or tennis courts. Board games, Legos, children’s books and DVDs available to use.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. There is a gas stove/fireplace in the living room, but doesn’t get hot enough on the exterior to burn hands or skin. Stairs do not have baby gates. French doors can remain closed and locked for smaller children, and cords from the window shades should be kept on the hook and out of reach of small children. Cable, Apple TV, and Bose surround sound available. Two private parking spaces available. Airport shuttles from Denver International Airport (2 hours away) are also readily available, but car rental is recommended.

About the Location

The residence is in the historic district of Breckenridge. The shuttle bus (BLUE line) to the ski area runs from 2 blocks away, and it is 5 blocks directly to the slopes. High Street is the last street in the historic district, an easy walking distance to downtown, with a library, coffee shop, and movie theater just a block away. There is a small grocery store 5 blocks away. The Summit Stage offers bus service throughout the county and to Copper Mountain, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin ski areas.

Accommodation Details

This historic home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The main floor has a fully equipped, open kitchen with family table, living room with freestanding gas stove/fireplace, bathroom and laundry room. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs: a bunk room (sleeping 4), a bedroom with a queen bed, and a master bedroom with a private bath, large porch and big closets (can hold a portable crib), and separate bathroom with bathtub. The basement media room has a pull-out couch. Front rooms share views of the ski areas.

Style Notes

Sunny and streamlined, this recently renovated historic home is a standout with blue exterior, white walls, beautiful windows, midcentury furniture, crisp linens, simple art, and colorful turkish rugs and design details. Sheepskins, a freestanding fireplace, wooden floors and Moroccan poufs are a cozy touch in the mountain setting, while shiplap walls, slanted ceilings, French doors and macrame wall hangings add fun character. A vintage Slim Aarons photo harkens one back to ski cabin life of the early 60's.

My family has been living in Breckenridge since 1980. My parents, Laurie and Patricia, who live in the house to the rear of this house, decided to turn this home as a vacation rental to give us more space when all their grandchildren are in town! They typically spend the winters overseas, but wouldn't miss summers in the mountains. I currently live in San Francisco with my husband and 4 children, spending a few months each year in Breckenridge so that my kids can enjoy the freedom and independence that comes with living in a small town. Having grown up in a mountain town, its important to me that my kids also grow up skiing and hiking!

We had a great trip to Breckenridge and stay at the High Residence. Heather was a great host and was easy to contact with any questions. We very much appreciated her hospitality!
