There is a 6-person Hot Spring outdoor jacuzzi. For larger groups, it can be booked with its sister property, The Marmontel Gite, to sleep up to 20 together, and an additional cottage sleeping up to 2 further guests is also available on request. Bookable extras include a daily maid service, bike rental, French lessons and in-house massages. There is a small gym in the main house, open from 11am until 4pm.

Why Kids Love it

The whole estate is traffic-free and has room to roam. Tranquil and surrounded by countryside, there are ponies, donkeys, sheep and race horses to pet plus room to picnic and play hide and seek. The residence is surrounded by 7 hectares of land and the owners understand what families travelling with small children need. There is a shared outdoor playground with swings and slides, sandbox, and space for soccer, volleyball and badminton. It’s in the countryside yet just a few minutes from the nearest town, Falaise, and close to beaches and family attractions. Parents can book a baby listening service twice a week.

The gite is in a quiet countryside location, around 30 minutes’ drive south of Calvados, near the town of Falaise. It is set beside another gite and a guest house in a small traffic-free estate. This part of France has so much to recommend it: the D-Day landing beaches, Mont St Michel, pretty villages and gourmet restaurants included. The residence is easy to reach from the UK via the Channel Tunnel or ferry services to Caen; Caen Carpiquet airport is 30 minutes away, and there are also easy routes by train and car from Europe. It is 2.5 hours by car from Paris. Car hire is essential. The property has plenty of space to park; there are also 4 electric vehicle charging stations, 2 of them general chargers and 2 Tesla-specific.

Style Notes

Modern family. With spacious living spaces and some lovely shared family areas, this property is in a fine location for a family trip, with everything taken care of. The main living space has a large fireplace, blue accents and high ceilings and is semi open to a dining area with a long wooden dining table. Bedrooms feature wooden beams in the ceilings, oil paintings and antique furniture. We love the beautiful building, the home-from-home appeal and the wonderful estate, packing with lovely areas for the kids to explore.

Mark fell in love with the tranquil setting and former farm buildings of Domaine de la Tour in 2004. After extensive renovations Domaine de la Tour opened their doors to the public on 1st of April, 2005. A former entrepreneur in the Netherlands Mark now works full time at Domaine de la Tour whilst his wife Noëlle divides her time between Domaine de la Tour and her work as a communications trainer. They have an 18 year old son and 13 year old twins who have taken their jobs as chief testers and advisors for all play equipment very seriously.

Calvados, Normandy

Beaches, apples and historical sights

Part of lower Normandy, this region of Northern France is bursting with things to do, historical sights and delicious food. Visit Caen for markets, meadows and beaches, try Bayeux for that famous medieval tapestry, and don't miss Mont St Michel and the D-Day landing beaches for that real life history lesson. Not a school teacher? The beaches, watersports and food may well be more than enough to keep you happy!

We had a wonderful stay at mark's gite. Mark is super friendly and purchased groceries before our arrival and had loads of nice tips to explore the area. Especially the kids enjoyed the large garden with skelters, swings, ping pong, football pitch and fish pond. It is 45 min from the WW2 beaches which is definitely worth a visit, also with kids (as of age 6 or so).
