The Oranjezicht Residence
Perks for the Parents
This tastefully decorated home in central Oranjezicht, in Cape Town, has plenty to offer for the discerning family or digital nomads. It sleeps 4-6. Parents can enjoy a glass of wine in the beautiful courtyard or a panoramic view of Table Mountain while the kids are upstairs fast asleep. There’s also a study for those who need to work, but when you’re ready to explore, you’ll be well-placed to explore Deer Park, the Castle of Good Hope, and the choice of cafes and restaurants in this family-friendly part of the city.
Why Kids Love it
For parents with babies or toddlers, the hosts provide a crib, changing mat, high chair, toys, books, a children’s table, dining chairs and kids cutlery. It also boasts 2 beautiful outdoor spaces for kids and it’s within walking distance to various playgrounds, community vegetable gardens and child friendly restaurants. The Iziko South African Museum (a natural history and science museum) and the South African National Gallery are also within easy reach.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 2 nights. There is a small portable power source and solar lights which can be used during the occasional load shedding (where power is lost to redistribute around the city). The home has 24 hour armed response, includes a garage (hard to find in Cape Town) and plenty of street parking for visitors. It’s around half an hour from Cape Town airport by car.
About the Location
The centrally-located home in Oranjezicht is within easy reach of family-friendly activities and restaurants and a stone's throw from most tourist activities yet secluded enough for a quiet and relaxing getaway. Gardens Shopping Centre is a 5-minute walk from the house, which includes two grocery stores, a pharmacy and plenty of clothing stores and ATMs. It’s around 15 minutes’ drive to Victoria & Alfred waterfront and 20 minutes to Camps Bay or Clifton beaches.
Accommodation Details
This duplex has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There’s 1 kingsize room and a second twin room, as well as an open plan kitchen which leads out to the courtyard and lounge area for those who wish to work, play and relax. There is also a snug which can accommodate 2 additional children on toddler beds and the home also includes a washing machine and there is a washing line in the courtyard.
Style Notes
Colorful city pad. Rustic with modern accents, the house maintains original wood floors upstairs, but with a quiet carpeted stairway. The hosts have chosen antiques specially collected from around the world, as well as striking design pieces. We love the colorful outdoor furniture, the vibrant patterned textiles and the subtle exposed stone walls in the kitchen.
