This three-story Victorian townhouse sleeping up to 10 + 1 is big on both character and space. Those with a sophisticated eye will appreciate the eclectic interior, with African textiles and a David Nal-Vad sculpture adding joyful color. It even has a little outdoor space for sunny Brooklyn days. We love the light streaming through the bay window just much as the Le Deun and Tsé-Tsé light fixtures that also brighten the rooms. The mix of families and artists living in the area make for a vibrant scene. Walk to Prospect Park for seasonal activities like concerts and ice skating or stroll the Brooklyn waterfront. The location is ideal for day trips to Manhattan, the Hudson Valley and Long Island beaches.

Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn

Brownstones, delis and gorgeous gardens

This vibrant, desirable Brooklyn neighborhood is filled with a mix of families and artists with a Euro-American community. Known for its brownstones, tree-lined streets and houses with large and lovely front and back gardens, it’s under half an hour from Manhattan by subway. Local parks are fun for kids - Prospect Park is a short car ride away, while Brooklyn Heights Promenade and waterfront walks are a short walk away, for skyscraper views and ferry trips.

Our family feel so lucky to have stayed in this wonderful home! We arrived on a brutally cold day to a large, warm & inviting Brooklyn oasis - complete with Christmas Tree & lights. We happily traipsed all over Manhattan & Brooklyn, knowing we could return to such a centrally located property and cook a family feast if we wanted or simply order in for the night. The kitchen is very well equipped, as are the bathrooms. The beds were all supremely comfortable. The neighborhood is gorgeous and easy to explore. A short stroll will take you to several main shopping strips full of great cafes & bodegas and a Trader Joe's & Wholefoods to die for. The subway links were close and we also took several Ubers as the location was so good it was sometimes cheaper to do so than the subway for our tribe. Finally, I rate the communication at all times from Florence to be extremely prompt, kind and detailed & this really made our stay extra special as we felt truly welcome.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Degraw residence in Brooklyn. The house was warm and inviting and had wonderful light. The kitchen became our family's gathering spot during our stay. Additionally, everything was decorated for Christmas which my kiddos loved. Lastly, the neighborhood was bananas! Beautiful old homes, nice neighbors and great proximity to local shops, Trader Joes, the best Whole Foods I have ever had the pleasure of shopping in and Barneys! I can't recommend the Degraw residence enough for a wonderful Brooklyn experience for any family!

Our overall experience with the residence was a good one, however there are certain issues that should be addressed. 1 The first step to the basement is a deep one and there should be a notice stating this as it could cause someone to stumble down the steps. 2 It should be noted that there is no air conditioning in the master bedroom. 3. The smoke detectors were not connected.

Having just arrived home from our time in NYC at the home of Florence and Emmanuel, we are already wishing we were back there! The home was perfect in every way for our family. The home's proximity to Manhattan made it perfect for a quick subway ride to the popular tourist sites and was close enough to do late night drives on the city streets which were lit beautifully for the holidays. Brooklyn and the local places around the residence proved just as fun and memorable. From our walks to Trader Joe's (which was the coolest grocery store we've ever seen - it is in is a 90 year old former bank building) and fries from Provence en Boite (the best we've ever had), to pizza delivery by bicycle and an amazing New Year's brunch at Brooklyn Bowl (the perfect place for meeting up with family and keeping 9 young kids entertained), to fireworks at Prospect Park and sunrise photo shoots on the Brooklyn Bridge, we made the most of our too brief visit to the city and having our home base on Degraw St. was invaluable. Our hosts made us feel like old friends visiting by welcoming us with a bottle of wine and personal notes on their favorite spots in the neighborhood. The home was exactly as described but more impressive in person. We are already checking the calendar for availability in 2015 because we hope to make frequent visits to the city in the future and hope to stay here again and again!

Sorry it has taken us so long to write a review! I really can't say enough great things about this home and the family who owns it. We had such a wonderful time in NY. My husband and I brought our 3 boys ages 12, 8, and 4. It was our home away from home. The boys loved having their own space as did we. Florence made everything very easy for us. And the neighbors were wonderful. This home is in a quaint little neighborhood with everything at your fingertips. When we arrived the previous renters had left us their metro cards with a remaining balance for us to use and a map of the city. (so nice!!) Florence also made sure we had all of her info and even left us a list of their favorite spots. On our last day their our flight was cancelled due to weather at the last minute for 3 days...so Florence was so kind to let us stay an extra day to give us some time to make other arrangements as she had other people coming in. All in all a wonderful experience and I highly recommend renting from Kid & Coe...we are!
