Perks for the Parents

This villa with a pool is surrounded by greenery and close to sunny beaches, in the countryside 30 minutes north of Catania. With a professional brick oven pizza to bake your own pizzas as well a large barbecue, alfresco dining is easy. The villa has a dedicated media room with professional equipment for movie night. The location makes it easy to visit Etna, Taormina, Catania and the seaside, and you can relax on the swimming pool after a long day of touring.

Why Kids Love it

The villa has plenty of toys and books for kids under age of 8. Kids all ages enjoy the pool and media room which has Netflix access. Close by on Mount Etna there are a couple of adventure parks, and the nearby Etnaland is one of the largest waterparks in Europe. Parents and kids will also enjoy the sunny beaches of the Sicilian coasts as well Etna excursions.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. Note that the pool is ungated so very young children will need extra supervision. The pool is heated. There are stairs to the second floor and some steps outside in the garden area. The kids bedroom has some direct access to the terrace. The villa is in the middle of the country surrounded by trees; bees and mosquitoes can be a nuisance. Car rental is essential. There is a washing machine but no dryer.

About the Location

The residence is in Nicolosi, a green region around 30 minutes north of Catania by car. It is a lovely rural area with a wide range of exquisite traditional Sicilian food restaurants and pizzerias, and the Etna Rifugio Sapienza restaurant on the slopes of Mount Etna is a 30-minute drive away. All facilities can be found in Catania. Taormina is about 45 minutes driving from the villa. The villa is well positioned to reach Catania International Airport in about 40 minutes.

Accommodation Details

This beautiful villa with a swimming pool is set over 2 floors and includes an open kitchen, living room and dining room on the first floor. All 4 bedrooms are on the upper floor: 1 with bunk beds and 3 with either queensize, one of which can be separated into 2 twin beds. There are 3 further single sofa beds in the house. The 3 bathrooms include 1 with bathtub and 2 with showers. Gardens include a vegetable area with zucchini, eggplants, tomatoes, onion, basil, depending on time of year.

Style Notes

Sicilian country style. This warm and welcoming villa was remodelled in 2015-6 and includes a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable living spaces and sun-drenched garden. Little treats make it special - the pool, the pizza oven, a fully equipped kitchen, and a wood-burning stove in the living space. Bedrooms include graphic print wallpaper and some access to terraces and balconies. We love the swimming pool, the spacious and shady gardens and the living room with picture window views over the scene.

Catania, Sicily

Piazzas, palaces and markets

Sicily’s second largest city is a bustling place of piazzas, palaces and markets and is set on the coast with plenty of wonderful beaches within easy reach. Explore the ruins, the castles and the cable car up Mount Etna; seek out puppet theatres, the theme park/water park Etna Land and indulge in that Sicilian favorite, granita.

We really enjoyed staying at the Nicolosi Residence. The villa is huge - would comfortably accommodate 2 families, with lots of space inside and out. The setting is also fabulous, with amazing views to the coast (which the pictures of the property can't do justice to!). Giovanni was the perfect host - helpful when needed and offered good recommendations for the local area, and checking we had everything we needed, without ever being intrusive.
