Perks for the Parents

This family resort exclusively for families with children aged under 8 includes a shared heated swimming pool, activities such as pottery and t-shirt painting and a mini creche. Set up with 6 cottages, each sleeping 4-8, the estate includes a large enclosed garden with shade, swimming pool, toddler pool, swings, slide, sandpit pirate ship and indoor and outdoor toys. Babysitting and mini creche services with a registered childminder offer parents some time off. Cognac and its distillery tours and Saintes and its Roman ruins are 30 minutes’ drive away; Bordeaux and its world-famous vineyards is an hour away and the coast with hundreds of miles of soft white sand an easy hour's drive to La Rochelle and Royan and all the places in between.

Why Kids Love it

The resort is exclusively for families with children under 8 years (ish) with pre-schoolers in May, June and September and an average age of 6 years in July and August, giving lots of new playmates for the kids. It is small enough that you feel safe letting your children run in and out to play as guests quickly get to know each other. Children's weekly activities include children’s pottery painting, children’s t-shirt painting, a teddy bear’s picnic and more. The garden is filled with toys.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 week in July and August, negotiable at other times, although the hosts prefer 2-week stays. Prices vary depending on the size of property and start at £55 per night for a 2-bedroom property outside peak season, and up to £175 per night for a 4-bedroom property in the height of summer. Fees apply for some activities. The pool area is safely enclosed and alarmed for extra safety. The garden is enclosed; individual families must ensure their children are supervised sufficiently. Several of the cottages have steep spiral staircases - stair barriers are provided for the top and bottom. Baby equipment offered includes: a trampoline, cribs with mattresses and bed guards, high chairs and booster seats, baby baths, baby bath seats, sterilizers, baby rocker chairs and non-slip bath mats. Baby monitors, toddler steps, potties and child toilet seats are also provided, and there is an outside loo by the pool. Please note there are no TVs and no air conditioning - this is your chance to go back to basics! The hosts also run Les Valliaes - another set of properties just 2km away which can also be booked with Kid & Coe.

About the Location

The estate is in the safe, rural and quiet hamlet of Courgeon in rural France, around an hour east of La Rochelle and an hour from Angoulême. With quiet country lanes and tracks for family walks and cycling, it is a relaxing area within easy reach of the beaches and all the places of interest. The local town, Saint Jean d'Angely, is full of history, and has a play park and swim center plus a thrice weekly market and all the supermarkets, banks and shopping needed for a comfortable self catering holiday. The nearest airport is in Poitiers, just over an hour away; Bordeaux airport is an hour and a half away.

Accommodation Details

This estate of 6 self-catering cottages includes 4 3-bedroom cottages (sleeping 6), 1 2-bedroom cottage (sleeping 4) and 1 4-bedroom cottage (sleeping 8). Please consult with the host regarding specific details for each property - some have stairs (and are gated), all have a kitchen, bathroom with bath tub and lounge. The gardens are shared and fully enclosed and include a swimming pool.

Style Notes

Rustic and rural France. These traditional stone-built cottages have tiled and wooden floors and exposed oak beams. They are clean and comfortable and created with the needs of young families in mind (no crystal decanters to smash or Louis 14th furniture to ruin!). We love the great provision for families, the location for exploring lovely parts of the country, and the wealth of equipment and entertainment options for young children.

We moved to France in 1996 to start our holiday accommodation business and had our two children here. We've always been a family location but having kids of our own made us realise how much more we could offer families. We are loving parenthood especially in such a beautiful rural environment where they are free to run around in great open spaces. They are grown up now, one at university the other studying for exams to go to university but they help out in the summer holidays with the family business. We love to travel and have taken our kids all over the world, so we all understand what makes a great family holiday. We want to share our little bit of France with other families, most families return year after year and many become friends.

Charente-Maritime, Southwest France

Beaches, islands and oysters

Stretching from La Rochelle down the southwest coast almost as far as Bordeaux, Charente-Maritime is one of France’s most beloved vacation destinations, with long sandy beaches, fantastic fresh oysters and pretty islands to visit. Hire boats and explore the coast; dine at pretty seafood restaurants and visit the fantastic aquarium in La Rochelle on a rainy day.
