Perks for the Parents

This villa boasts stunning views of Saint-Pierre-de-Juillers, Southwest France and a heated private pool. It sleeps 8. Parents can enjoy the huge outdoor garden with views overlooking open countryside, while kids will be entertained by the pool and children's activities available at the host's nearby property. The house is ideal for 2 families sharing, with double and twin rooms plus a bathroom on each side of the house, separated by a spacious kitchen and living/dining room.

Why Kids Love it

The hosts welcome any children, from babies to teens. There's toys and books to hand, as well as loads of space to play ball games, plus you’ll have the pool all to yourselves. Close by (2km away) in their sister properties, you’ll find children's activities such as pottery and t-shirt painting and guests are welcome to join. The hosts can supply any baby and toddler equipment free of charge, from a steam sterilizer to plastic plates and cutlery, a hand blender for purees or a travel cot, high chair, booster seats, etc.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Safety notes: the heated swimming pool (9x4) is fenced with a child safety latch and alarmed for safety. Bring your sunscreen; there is some shade at different times of day, however the pool area has little shade throughout the day time (perfect for sun lovers!). No animals are allowed, and no music to be heard outside the villa - please use headphones. Sound travels very easily in the countryside. There is WiFi throughout the house and a smart TV to connect to your own streaming accounts. The house is accessed by a single gateway and driveway which is shared with the next door villa. This villa is also owned by the hosts but is only used for their own family members during the summer. The villa can also be let as a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom property at certain times of year - inquire with the hosts.

About the Location

Located on the edge of a rural French hamlet, the villa is set in beautiful countryside just 15 minutes’ drive from the small town of St Jean d’Angely. Here you’ll find a market twice a week, bars, restaurants and supermarkets. This rural area is ideal for nature walks and cycling - the boulangerie is a bike ride away to pick up the mornings croissants. It is 12km to larger markets so a car is essential as there is very little public transport. Cognac distillery tours are 40 minutes away, Saintes Roman amphitheater is 35 minutes’ away, and La Rochelle (where there’s an aquarium as well as great seafood restaurants) is just over 1 hour away. For family days out, visit the nearby swimming lake with a beach (30 minutes), the animal park in La Palmyre (1 hour 15 minutes) or the sandy beaches at the coast (an easy 1-hour drive). The house is within easy reach of Bordeaux, La Rochelle, and Poitiers airports.

Accommodation Details

The villa has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 1 floor. The house is fully equipped for a comfortable stay. It has 2 double rooms and 2 twin rooms with 2 full bathrooms. There is a central kitchen with a dining nook, along with sitting and dining areas. There is outdoor garden furniture and a barbecue overlooking open countryside, as well as a sizable garden surrounding the villa and a flat field, which belongs to the adjoining villa, but may be used for ball games.

Style Notes

Rustic and rural. This is a modern house with cream and white walls and classic wooden floors for a neutral, relaxing space. It's classified as a 3-star property, so has everything you need for a comfortable stay, but it retains a simple and pared-back style - there are no precious ornaments for kids to break here! We love the traditional wooden shutters, the high vaulted ceiling with wooden beams in the sitting room and the ornate wallpaper in the bedroom.

We moved to France in 1996 to start our holiday accommodation business and had our two children here. We've always been a family location but having kids of our own made us realise how much more we could offer families. We are loving parenthood especially in such a beautiful rural environment where they are free to run around in great open spaces. They are grown up now, one at university the other studying for exams to go to university but they help out in the summer holidays with the family business. We love to travel and have taken our kids all over the world, so we all understand what makes a great family holiday. We want to share our little bit of France with other families, most families return year after year and many become friends.

Charente-Maritime, Southwest France

Beaches, islands and oysters

Stretching from La Rochelle down the southwest coast almost as far as Bordeaux, Charente-Maritime is one of France’s most beloved vacation destinations, with long sandy beaches, fantastic fresh oysters and pretty islands to visit. Hire boats and explore the coast; dine at pretty seafood restaurants and visit the fantastic aquarium in La Rochelle on a rainy day.
