This picture-perfect country colonial home is straight out of a style magazine with a gorgeous interior, large gardens and play equipment for the kids. It sleeps 7 + 2. The house has been renovated by 2 NYC designers who have made each room a delight. All of the rooms are spacious and light – the house has 45 windows – and there are design treasures to discover everywhere. Parents will appreciate the comfortable bedrooms with soothing views of greenery.
There are plenty of games and books for children under age ten and there is a separate playroom adjacent to the formal living room with a TV and toys. There are two kids’ rooms: one has a crib and a day bed and another has a twin bed with a trundle, book-stuffed shelves, colorful dots on the walls and fun, festive garlands from Petit Pan. Outside is a swing set, large grassy yard and plenty of outdoor toys. A high chair is also available.
Minimum stay: Generally 3 nights aside from holidays. Take note: the owners have 2 dogs and a cat who will not be onsite during stays, but are a presence in the house at other times if allergies are an issue. No visiting pets are allowed. Windows are original to the house (almost 200 years old) and there are no screens or winter storm windows for them. There is central air conditioning throughout the house. The primary bedroom does not have window coverings; the property is very private and located on a country road but there is sunlight in the mornings. Children will need supervision around the pond. If you have a toddler, please be aware that there are some unprotected sharp corners on furniture. Stair gates are available on request. Baby equipment at the property includes bed rails, high chair, dinnerware, a baby swing, a monitor, and changing table.
This residence is located in North Chatham, New York, just off New York State Route 203. It is 2.5 hours mins north of NYC and 40 minutes southeast of Albany, NY, which is the closest airport. The lovely town of Chatham and neighboring Ghent are full of local farms, boutiques, breweries, galleries as well as the amazing Art OMI, a sprawling architecture and sculpture museum. Skiing and snowboarding are close at hand – just 40 minutes’ drive away is Great Barrington, Mass with plenty of dining options and its resort, Ski Butternut, with 110 acres of skiable terrain on 22 trails. The property is next to hundreds of acres of wooded hiking trails.
This 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom home has 4,000 sq ft of living space. On the first floor is an architect designed chef’s kitchen with an eating island, a formal dining room seating up to 10, and living rooms. There is also a separate mud room entrance, powder room, and a play / TV room. The second floor has 4 bedrooms – 1 queensize ensuite with a shower, 1 with a full crib and single day bed, and 1 kids’ bedroom with a twin/single plus trundle bed. There is a kingsize primary suite with its own soaking tub, shower and dressing room. There is also a shared family bathroom with a tub and shower. The outdoor area includes a pond, full terrace with lounge seating, grilling and a dining area for 10.
Hudson Valley hideaway. This house had been vacant for 2 years when the current owners bought it and its subsequent transformation took 5 long years. However, this 1827 center-hall colonial home is now filled with bright colors, character, and charm. Much of the original design of our home has been restored, including the wide-planked wood floorboards. This residence has been featured in Architectural Digest, as well as several international style magazines. We love, well everything, but particularly the subtle but rich Farrow & Ball paint, the bold use of color (think mustard, deep royal blue and gray), and the clever use of simple, rustic furniture complimented by venturesome statement pieces.

We split our time between New York City and our home in the country, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Culture and countryside adventures
In the beautiful setting of Columbia County, Chatham is a pretty town with plenty to keep a family occupied for a week or more. Take to the trees at Catamount Ski Area for aerial adventures - or skiing in season; visit local farms and meet the animals; hike or cycle local routes or take in some culture in the many and varied performance spaces and theaters of the town. There’s an annual county fair too, plenty of distilleries, wineries and breweries to visit, and state parks to explore a short drive away.

We had such a good time at the house! It is so well-designed and beautiful—it's an absolute gem.
We absolutely LOVED this home. It was so wonderful for the children and the kitchen is fantastic. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner there and had every tool available to us in the fully stocked kitchen! It's a gorgeous and well appointment home with an excellent layout. Dale is a wonderful and responsive host. Magical, cozy and wonderful! x
This house is a feast for the eyes and soul! It’s so beautifully decorated and so, so cozy. Great playroom for young kids and a great yard for walking and exploring. We loved cooking (and hanging!) in the gorgeous and huge kitchen. And the host, Dale, was delightful to communicate with.
Beautifully decorated home that appealed both to the adults and to the kids. The home had lots of toys that engaged kids from 2 to 7 years old. The big yard and treehouse were also greatly appreciated by the kids. The adults loved the John Derian-style decor and cozy reading nooks, not to mention all the great books. For a weekend, there's lots to do in the area--the Chatham town center has shops, eateries, and a brewery and Hudson and Great Barrington--with all their great antique shops--are a reasonable car ride away.
Our stay was exceptional! Dale was extremely helpful assisting with navigating the house and area during our stay. Would be back in a heartbeat. Cheers!
We had a great stay with extended family and two boys around 1.5 years old. It rained the whole weekend so we were SO thankful for the amazing amount of toys and books at the ready to entertain them. The kitchen is wonderful and has everything you'd need to make all your meals at home. We hope to return for a sunny weekend soon!
We had a wonderful time in this home and would recommend to all.
We loved staying here! It's beautifully decorated, and has lots to entertain the kids (tons of toys /games in the family room, yard has a pond, a small swing set and a little tree house). They have an incredible coffee machine, and everything you could ever need in terms of kitchen gear. This is a fully stocked home that is immaculately clean.
This is a chic and gorgeous house! A perfect family escape from NYC. Fabulous kitchen great play room area and super comfy beds. We just loved it and will come back!
What a fabulous weekend! We would go back in a heartbeat. A stunning home that is designed to perfection but still super comfortable. Appointed with everything you need - house is well organized and it was a true joy to spend the weekend there. There is a detailed binder with instructions and advice on what to do in the area, where to eat, etc. A fantastic kids room that is an Astro-lovers dream come true and lots of great toys to keep the minis busy while parents relax. Highly recommend this home - you will remember it for a long time and want to return the minute you have left. Don’t miss it!
What a magical place! The house was inviting, beautifully and thoughtfully designed and well stocked. We went away with 3 kids (7, 4 and 2 years old) and had an amazing time hanging out on the property and exploring the farms nearby. The kids were kept busy with the myriad indoor and outdoor toys. We will be back!
We had an amazing stay! The house was perfect for our 6- and 2-year old kids. They loved watching the frogs in the pond and hiking through the nearby trails. We also took full advantage of the well-equipped kitchen to make some family meals. Dale was very responsive and helpful throughout. Highly recommend this property for families!
We had a great stay in this gorgeous house. The house is amazing: beautifully decorated, spacious, very welcoming and comfortable. A great terrace and beautiful backyard! Both the house and the grounds are very entertaining for the kids. A playroom with more toys than you can imagine! And a playground in the yard. A dream for the kids too! Would highly recommend!
This house is heavenly! Our family of four (kids ages 7 and 11) were so comfortable and happy in this country getaway. Between the play room full of toys, the bedroom full of books, and the pond full of frogs- the kids were very busy for the whole week. Which left these parents relaxing and reading on the patio! The county was great for farm stands and creek hikes. The kitchen was a chef's dream. We'll definitely be back!
Dale was extremely helpful before, during and after our stay and the house is beautiful. The playroom was a great bonus and kept the kids busy for hours.
What a perfect rental. I cannot say enough good things about it.
It is beautiful and elegant, but incredibly comfortable. Every room is impeccable.
I am trying to think one thing that wasn’t perfectly thought out.
Nope, I can’t.
My HIGHEST recommendation!!!!
This was an amazing stay. The home is beautifully designed and has a lovely mix of antique and modern. The kitchen is a joy for those who cook. The pond outside -- with an abundant family of frogs sitting on the edge -- is beautiful, as are the abundant hiking acres immediately adjacent to the property. Our 5-year-old spent countless hours on the swing set right outside the home; he and his 1-year-old sister were also amazed by the abundant toys in the sunroom/playroom; and the adults appreciated the isolated office space near the mud room for occasional moments of work-related focus. The Hudson Valley surroundings are magical too; our highlights were a Saturday evening cookout at Art Omi and a mid-afternoon visit to Little Ghent Farm. Dale is an extremely gracious and communicative host. Enjoy!
This is the most stylish house we have ever stayed in. It is absolutely beautiful, and every single aspect of it has been put together with love and thought. We have a 5.5 year old and a 21 month old and it was perfect for them. The play room is fantastic, the garden is lovely and the kitchen is exceptional whether you want to cook informally or entertain. The books, the light, the beds - we loved it all. Everything you need is there. Dale is wonderfully responsive and hugely helpful. I would definitely come back here. Thank you Dale!
