Perks for the Parents

This architect-designed, child-friendly home on the beautiful west coast of the Emerald Isle has countryside views and immaculate interior spaces. It sleeps up to 9 + 2. The open plan living and dining area is ideal for family life, while there’s plenty of space outside to play and hang out. There is a lower level bedroom / bathroom / outdoor space, which may be ideal for a nanny / additional family. It’s a 6-minute drive or 30-minute walk to the plush 5-star 16th-century Dromoland Castle Hotel where you’ll find restaurants, an 18-hole championship golf course and spa, plus archery, clay shooting, falconry and trout fishing.

Why Kids Love it

This is usually home to 3 children under 6 so it’s child-proofed and child-ready with games, toys and a large, grassy garden with a trampoline, swing set and outdoor toys. The nearby hotel has an indoor and outdoor play area for children and there is horse riding nearby. A crib, high chair and baby toys can be provided on request, as well as additional requests for child-friendly items, within reason. Ten minutes’ drive away is Bunratty Castle & Folk Park – an ancient castle to explore and a 19th century Ireland recreated with over 30 buildings in a living village. Beaches are close by too.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. Safety notes: children should be supervised on the balcony and around the woodburning stove. The garden has an electric gate to the road. There is a stair gate on the stairs. A local organic vegetable delivery is available plus regular cleaning with a trusted housekeeper. Qualified, adored childminders are available on request. The hosts will provide information on the local area and amenities.

About the Location

This residence is located in Dromoland in County Clare on Ireland’s stunning west coast. Dromoland is overshadowed by the 16th century castle – now a hotel – a 15 minute walk, it makes a great jumping off point to tour the vistas, seascapes, white-sand beaches and distinctive culture of this remarkable area. The medieval town of Ennis is 15 minutes’ drive and it’s 50 minutes to must-see The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. Limerick is the closest city. Fly into Shannon International Airport – just 15 minutes from the house.

One of these rooms contains a bunkbed sleeping 2 and toddler bed, the other room contains a small double bed and a crib. There is a half bathroom on this level also. On the lower level is 1 more bedrooms with a king sized bed and a full bathroom adjacent. An additional room on this level can be available as an extra bedroom and is now used as a sitting area. There is also a laundry room on this level. A double air bed can accommodate an additional 2 guests if required and a travel crib is available on request. Style Notes

Contemporary, chic, rural. This modern home with many textures, levels and interior interest will delight. There’s a high spec stainless steel kitchen with granite and wood counters and a double height ceiling. Elsewhere there are plenty of spacious, sun-filled spaces to relax and polished concrete and oak flooring throughout. Design pieces include a Roche Bobois sofa, Vitra light fitting and Stokke high chairs. We love the luxurious bathrooms with polished concrete walk-in showers and Duravit fittings, and the countryside views from the lovely BBQ area.

We had a lovely stay at the Dromoland Residence in County Clare, the house is spacious and well maintained with gorgeous grounds including plenty of things to do for the kids (the trampoline in particular was a huge hit!). The Burren and Cliffs of Moher, among others, are within easy driving distance and we did a number of walks in the areas immediately surrounding the house. Peggy was a wonderful host and provided plenty of recommendations for things to do and see in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would gladly return.

We have visited many vacation rentals with our children over the years and this was absolutely one of the BEST! Best host, most kid friendly, amazing location and just truly perfect. We traveled with our children and my parents and everyone had plenty of space. It's an easy walk to Dromoland Castle which is incredible. I would highly recommend this home for your next vacation!

There are special properties to get away with with family and then there are properties that feel like a DREAM brought to life--the Dromoland Residence is one such property. Stylish, deeply comfortable, ideally located, endlessly welcoming for children...all of these things made Peggy & David's home impossible to improve upon during our family's trip to Ireland earlier this month. We all loved it! "We" are two parents (my husband and myself), two children (our daughters aged 8 and 9.5), and two grandparents (my dad and stepmom). After a long day of travel, immediately on arrival our girls ran straight outside to the trampoline and zipline (!) to play in the backyard while the adults settled in. (Also, our daughters were obsessed with all the toys and books, so happy to busy themselves exploring. They bickered over the two cute children's rooms but switched halfway through so everyone got to take turns enjoying the different unique charms of each. ) On the adult side of things, our hosts left the most exquisite welcome basket: hand-written note, fresh baked scones, coffee, wine, fresh fruit, beautiful biscuits...omg. I had corresponded with Peggy about where I might pick up a few staples like milk, bread, eggs, etc. near the house but arrived to find the immaculate refrigerator already stocked with these items just for our stay, along with local jam and that amazing Irish butter. Also a note encouraging us to cook, help ourselves to anything in the pantry, all of it. Really just above and beyond hospitality. Peggy also took the time to send us heaps of excellent suggestions about where to go, what to do, places to eat, kiddo vetted recommendations (pastry! playgrounds! beaches! etc.) that their kids loved...Not just in the surrounding area, but around Western Ireland where we were road-tripping. We tried many of her recommendations; all were excellent. We especially loved walking to nearby Dromoland Castle and visiting Ennis, Doolin and Spanish Point by car. The home itself was extremely spacious and lovely--beds fantastic, open kitchen into living room where we all played games and the record player, abundant natural lighting, laundry, big bathtub for the girls, yoga mat for mama (!)...Truly a traveler's dream. Because we all got to spread out and actually relax together instead of being squeezed into a hotel room, we were able to have fun connecting as three generations of family, which, after all, was the entire point! I would consider the Dromoland Residence a perfect cocoon. Can't wait to return!
