Why Kids Love it

This is usually home to 3 children under 11 so it’s child-ready with games, toys and a large, grassy garden with a trampoline, swing set and outdoor toys. The nearby hotel has an indoor and outdoor play area for children and there is horse riding nearby. A crib, high chair and baby toys can be provided on request, as well as additional requests for child-friendly items, within reason. Ten minutes’ drive away is Bunratty Castle & Folk Park – an ancient castle to explore and a 19th century Ireland recreated with over 30 buildings in a living village. Beaches are close by too.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. Safety notes: children should be supervised on the balcony and around the woodburning stove. The garden has an electric gate to the road. There is a stair gate on the stairs. The hosts will provide information on the local area and amenities.

Dromoland is overshadowed by the 16th century castle – now a hotel – a 15 minute walk, it makes a great jumping off point to tour the vistas, seascapes, white-sand beaches and distinctive culture of this remarkable area. The medieval town of Ennis is 15 minutes’ drive and it’s 50 minutes to must-see The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. Limerick is the closest city. Fly into Shannon International Airport – just 15 minutes from the house.

Contemporary, chic, rural. This modern home with many textures, levels and interior interest will delight. There’s a high spec stainless steel kitchen with granite and wood counters and a double height ceiling. Elsewhere there are plenty of spacious, sun-filled spaces to relax and polished concrete and oak flooring throughout. Design pieces include a Roche Bobois sofa, Vitra light fitting and Stokke high chairs. We love the luxurious bathrooms with polished concrete walk-in showers and Duravit fittings, and the countryside views from the lovely BBQ area.

Our stay at Peggy’s beautiful home in Co Clare was nothing short of exceptional. It was our first time visiting Ireland and we had an incredible experience! Family of four, with two boys 5 and 10 along with my parents who joined us. The location is ideal for exploring the stunning landscapes and attractions the west coast of Ireland has to offer. We were within easy reach of iconic sites like the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, as well as the charming villages that dot the coastline. The property itself is a gem. The design of the home is expansive, modern and welcoming, with perfect amenities for the kids like a zip line and trampoline in the backyard as well as a hot tub for everyone. We immediately felt at ease and appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout the house, from the cozy living spaces to the kids toys to the well-equipped kitchen. As a family, we found this home to be incredibly accommodating. The layout is spacious, allowing everyone to have their own space while still enjoying time together after a day of exploring. In short, this home offers everything you could want for a memorable stay in County Clare. We look forward to returning to the area!

Peggy's home is fantastic. We left feeling inspired by both her gorgeous design aesthetic, and by the friendliness of everyone we met! We genuinely look forward to returning to this incredible house in the near future, and will seek out Ireland and this home again specifically for its ease, beauty, and breadth of activities. There are so many wonderful activities that you can do nearby and day-trips away, and everything that the area offers (with Peggy's incredibly helpful and long list of recommendations) can suit a variety of ages and interests. We can't recommend this house enough! Everything was very comfortable, very clean, and accommodating for infants/toddlers, older kids, AND adults. Peggy is so warm, welcoming, and kind - she is such a gracious host, and was SO responsive and helpful with all of our questions. It was so nice to walk or drive to nearby Dromoland Inn/Dromoland Castle & Hotel, and we had fun going into Ennis or further out to Cliffs of Moher, Spanish Point Beach, etc. Don't miss this house - you will love your adventure in Ireland!

Cannot say enough amazing things about Peggy and her home. We had five kids under 7 and the ease of walking into a clean, safe and kid oriented home is unmatched! After days in a hotel the kids were SO excited to do the zip line, trampoline, and play with all of the toys! Peggy was phenomenal. She gave us so many suggestions for things to do, places to eat and tips. It felt like I was staying at a friend’s house! Her hospitality was unmatched and we could not have asked for a better stay!

Our family spent almost a week at the Dromoland Residence and found it deeply relaxing, comfortable, and stunningly beautiful. We were a group of 7, across three generations, and the home charmed every one of us. The kitchen, dining, and living area feature enormous windows with views across the expansive garden and surrounding farmland. The kitchen is very well equipped - possibly better than any house our family of veteran travelers has visited. The range is huge and powerful - we cooked many nights. Peggy welcomed us with a batch of fresh scones, jam, and a nice bottle of wine, all touches we appreciated on arrival. Our children loved spending time in the garden. Bouncing on the trampoline and riding the zip line took priority, most mornings, over breakfast. Parents and grandparents loved the walks around the home, and enjoyed coffee on the patio. The bedrooms are large, with comfortable beds. While the home encourages you to spend time eating together and enjoying the views, it also features a beautiful entertainment room where we watched a few movies and some football. The home offers fairly easy access to some of the best of Ireland’s west coast. We easily visited the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Galway, Kilkee (fun seaside town with beautiful and less touristed cliffs than Moher), and Limerick. All were easy drives of less than an hour. Ennis and Quin, both within 15 minutes of the home are definitely worth visiting. Peggy is a very attentive and knowledgeable host. She gave us an impressive list of recommended activities, along with thoughts on places to eat. She even helped me set up physical therapy sessions with a great physiotherapist after I suffered an injury prior to arriving. The Dromoland Residence is a special place and Peggy is a great host. Highly recommended!

The Dromoland Residence was a dream place to stay for both us and our child. The house is gorgeous and has everything you need to feel right at home. Our 6-year old loved spending the morning jumping on the trampoline & zip lining, while we enjoyed our coffee taking in the views. It’s a short walk to the castle & the perfect spot for day trips. Peggy is an exceptional host! She provided wonderful suggestions of what to do and where to eat. We only wished would could have stayed longer to enjoy more of them.

Wow! The house is warm and welcoming and the host is as well. We enjoyed our stay here and my son enjoyed the space to run and toys to play with. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The proximity to Dromoland for meals is convenient. Peggy provided a plethora of recommendations in the area for food and activities, which was great for planning. Thank you!!

We had a lovely stay at the Dromoland Residence in County Clare, the house is spacious and well maintained with gorgeous grounds including plenty of things to do for the kids (the trampoline in particular was a huge hit!). The Burren and Cliffs of Moher, among others, are within easy driving distance and we did a number of walks in the areas immediately surrounding the house. Peggy was a wonderful host and provided plenty of recommendations for things to do and see in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would gladly return.

We have visited many vacation rentals with our children over the years and this was absolutely one of the BEST! Best host, most kid friendly, amazing location and just truly perfect. We traveled with our children and my parents and everyone had plenty of space. It's an easy walk to Dromoland Castle which is incredible. I would highly recommend this home for your next vacation!

There are special properties to get away with with family and then there are properties that feel like a DREAM brought to life--the Dromoland Residence is one such property. Stylish, deeply comfortable, ideally located, endlessly welcoming for children...all of these things made Peggy & David's home impossible to improve upon during our family's trip to Ireland earlier this month. We all loved it! "We" are two parents (my husband and myself), two children (our daughters aged 8 and 9.5), and two grandparents (my dad and stepmom). After a long day of travel, immediately on arrival our girls ran straight outside to the trampoline and zipline (!) to play in the backyard while the adults settled in. (Also, our daughters were obsessed with all the toys and books, so happy to busy themselves exploring. They bickered over the two cute children's rooms but switched halfway through so everyone got to take turns enjoying the different unique charms of each. ) On the adult side of things, our hosts left the most exquisite welcome basket: hand-written note, fresh baked scones, coffee, wine, fresh fruit, beautiful biscuits...omg. I had corresponded with Peggy about where I might pick up a few staples like milk, bread, eggs, etc. near the house but arrived to find the immaculate refrigerator already stocked with these items just for our stay, along with local jam and that amazing Irish butter. Also a note encouraging us to cook, help ourselves to anything in the pantry, all of it. Really just above and beyond hospitality. Peggy also took the time to send us heaps of excellent suggestions about where to go, what to do, places to eat, kiddo vetted recommendations (pastry! playgrounds! beaches! etc.) that their kids loved...Not just in the surrounding area, but around Western Ireland where we were road-tripping. We tried many of her recommendations; all were excellent. We especially loved walking to nearby Dromoland Castle and visiting Ennis, Doolin and Spanish Point by car. The home itself was extremely spacious and lovely--beds fantastic, open kitchen into living room where we all played games and the record player, abundant natural lighting, laundry, big bathtub for the girls, yoga mat for mama (!)...Truly a traveler's dream. Because we all got to spread out and actually relax together instead of being squeezed into a hotel room, we were able to have fun connecting as three generations of family, which, after all, was the entire point! I would consider the Dromoland Residence a perfect cocoon. Can't wait to return!
