Perks for the Parents

A brownstone Brooklyn apartment with easy access to the river and 5 playgrounds within walking distance. It sleeps 4. This is a fantastic base for families visiting NYC: it’s a very walkable neighborhood with family-friendly cafes and stores within easy reach, and a school directly opposite with a playground, track and basketball courts. You can spread out in the 3 separate bedrooms and a separate living and kitchen space. This also lets you have your own own space after the kids go to bed.

Why Kids Love it

The apartment is great for babies as it’s quiet, with separate bedrooms and blackout curtains on all bedroom windows! The 1-level space is also ideal for toddlers, who’ll love playing/dancing in the living room. Older kids and teens can check out the books in every room, try out the hosts’ 16" and 20" bicycles, or head down to the river to catch a ferry for a fun way to explore the city.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 14 nights. Safety notes: it's a fourth floor walk-up (keeps you fit!) and so despite the great light upstairs, it's not appropriate for anyone with mobility concerns. There is a projector that connects to personal phone streaming apps (Hulu, Netflix, HBO Go, etc) but no TV. There is no parking available but car rental is not essential in this central area. LaGuardia and JFK airports are around 1 hour away by car or train.

About the Location

Brownstone Brooklyn is known as a haven for families in New York City. There are lots of strollers on every corner and 5 playgrounds within walking distance. It's in a tree-lined and charming neighborhood - lots of restaurants, bookshops and stores. You'll also be close to the East River waterfront and downtown Manhattan (3 subway stops or 1 ferry stop). The nearest subway station is Bergen St (less than 10 minutes’ walk).

Accommodation Details

The apartment has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, all set on the top floor of a landmark building in Brooklyn, with a long stretched-out hallway creating a feeling of space. The primary bedroom has a queensize bed (and non-working fireplace); the 2 children’s rooms each have a single bed. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower. The kitchen has an eat-in dining table, and leads to a living area with space for kids to play.

Style Notes

Minimal and serene. The hallway and kitchen have navy/black wainscotting and Moglea clocks, while the living room and kids bedrooms lean into a single accent of red, peach or lavender. The primary bedroom keeps it simple with all-white crown moldings and a white brick fireplace. We love the graphic painted shapes, the pops of color and the natural wood materials.

Waving hi from NYC. We're a writer, photographer and two little dancers looking to explore. We've exchanged abroad before and made lovely friends by taking care of each other's homes. Hope to do so again!
