Perks for the Parents

This family-friendly villa with a pool is a 25-minute walk from Lake Maggiore and close to excellent restaurants. It is in a safe, upmarket neighborhood. The outside space offers plenty of room to run and play in beautiful gardens, and in the summer months, it is filled with the scent of the numerous roses and lavender plants around the terrace. The sunny kitchen includes a Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher and microwave. A portable Bose docking station is available for guests' use.

Why Kids Love it

There is plenty of space to play in the gardens; the villa has a pool and is walking distance from the lake beaches where children can also swim. There is a lot for kids of all ages to see and do in the area too, ranging from water parks to a chocolate factory and lakeside attractions. A travel crib, stroller and high chair can all be provided on request free of charge. The fourth bedroom has a games cupboard and 2 bunk beds, sleeping 4.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. The property is set over 2 levels. It is quite difficult to attach stair gates to the stairs due to the nature of the banisters but the hosts can certainly child proof them on request. The pool is ungated; guests need to keep an eye on children at all times. The pool has an electric security pool cover, but even when covered, children must be supervised at all times. Note there is no TV service at the villa - there is a large TV in the living room for use with the DVD player or guests can connect a laptop using the HDMI cable supplied.

About the Location

The residence is in Colmegna, a tiny village on the shores of Lake Maggiore with a little beach area about 25 minutes' walk away. There are a couple of restaurants at the beach. There are supermarkets a 5-minute drive away and online delivery can be arranged. The location is quiet and peaceful in a sought after and well-kept residential neighbourhood. Car rental recommended. The property has a long private driveway with ample parking for a number of cars. The closest airport is Milan Malpensa airport, just over an hour’s drive away.

Accommodation Details

Set over 2 levels, this villa includes an open plan dining/kitchen area on the ground floor with French windows to a spacious terrace. The dining area seats 8 and there is an extra table seating 4. There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor, 1 with a kingsize double and doors to the terrace, and 1 with 2 sets of bunkbeds, sleeping 4. There is a bathroom with walk-in shower and large corner bath. The living area is upstairs and has a fireplace; there is a balcony with dining area and 2 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms on this floor. Outside space includes a large terrace with dining area and Weber barbecue, spacious gardens and a 10 x 4.5m pool. There is a basement with washer-dryer, fridge and freezer.

Style Notes

Modern Italian. The property is elegantly furnished in a contemporary style. It is warm and welcoming throughout. The open plan living and dining area is very sociable for an easy family stay. Each bedroom has its own character and both the upstairs living areas and kitchen area lead out onto terraces enjoying lake views. We love the light and welcoming kitchen/diner, the bucolic gardens and the wonderful location for a relaxing family stay.

I am a Mum of two children. My eldest - Ben - is 16 years old and my youngest - Lucy - is thirteen. As a family, we holiday in Italy 2-3 times a year and love the laid back, relaxed atmosphere that Italy offers us. Italians respect traditional family values and adore children as much as they love their food, which in our eyes makes it the perfect family holiday destination! When they were little we liked to holiday in the Italian Lakes in particular. Our children are now old enough to enjoy the many water sports that the area offers, but we were holidaying in the area since they were only just crawling and found that the area offered plenty for them to enjoy whatever their age. We now like to explore other areas of Italy too, our favourites being Puglia, Tuscany and Umbria as well as the Lakes region. I hope that I can help other families to find their perfect holiday in Italy.

Colmegna, Italian Lakes

On the lake

Towards the northern reaches of Lake Maggiore, Colmegna is a small quiet town on the lake shore with shingle beaches, grand houses and beautiful parklands nearby. Hop on a ferry to cruise to the lake’s islands, play in the shallow water or visit pretty towns for fantastic food along the lake. Luino, just to the south of Colmegna, has a regular market selling cheese, bread, artisan fare and handbags.
