An art-filled, contemporary pad with a private pool in the center of laid-back Carvalhal, with boutiques, restaurants and a gorgeous beach a short walk/bike ride away. It sleeps 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 children. Ideally located for those in search of a hassle-free vacation, there’s no need for a car with everything you need on the doorstep. The village punches above its weight when it comes to foodie approved restaurants, artsy boutiques and beautiful coast with Praia do Carvalhal's trendy beach cafes and surf shops under 10 minutes by bike. For downtime, the residence offers a relaxed but social base with an open plan kitchen/living/dining room opening out onto a spacious terrace with alfresco dining, a BBQ, summer kitchen and a pool. The garden is fully fenced so parents can relax while the kids play. The roomy primary bedroom has its own terrace access for enjoying a moment’s peace with a morning coffee, or nightcap.

Kids will love this relaxed beach style pad with its dreamy pastels, bold stripes and fun decor. The shallow pool is ideal for younger ones still learning to swim with ample room to splash about in, and no deep end to contend with. The surrounding terrace has space to play, and there’s a BBQ for alfresco cook outs. Kids interested in food can help select fresh, local ingredients from the local village stores. There is horse riding on offer locally, and bike rental available for a fun way to explore the area. Nearby Praia do Carvalhal, an easy cycle away, is particularly suitable for families being sandy and shallow with bohemian style beach cafes. For older kids and teens into surfing, there are nearby surf shacks with board rental to make the most of the infamous Atlantic waves. For wildlife enthusiasts, there are regular boat trips along the nearby Sado nature reserve and estuary, a known dolphin hangout.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 5 nights in July and August; 3 nights from October – June. Public parking is available outside the property. Please note that the pool is ungated so younger ones should be supervised around it. The loft room is not accessible to guests. There is WiFi throughout the property. All the rooms have AC. There are 2 outdoor showers at the property for easy sand removal after the beach. A baby crib or highchair is available upon request for an additional fee.
About the Location
The residence is located in the center of Carvalhal, a relaxed village in the wild and beautiful Alentejo region with shops and restaurants walking distance from the property. Conveniently situated between Comporta (16 minutes’ drive) and Melides (20 minutes), the area is celebrated for its peaceful, sandy coastlines and pristine natural beauty. Rice paddies, estuaries, pine forests and artsy villages characterize the area, attracting designers and architects to the region. Comporta has become a hip location with restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques with unique handmade clothes to explore, as well as beautiful Praia do Comporta. The closest beach to the residence is Praia do Carvalhal with its relaxed, bohemian beach cafes and surf shacks, under 10 minutes away by bike or 2 minutes by car. Fly into Lisbon International Airport (1 hour, 20 mins by car).
Accommodation Details
The residence has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom set over 1 floor. The main living area comprises of an open plan kitchen/living and dining space: the chic, modern kitchen is fully-equipped with a dishwasher, double oven, and breakfast bar seating 2. There’s a separate dining table seating up to 4 and a cozy living area with a sofa, chairs and coffee table. Glass doors open directly out to an alfresco dining area shaded by a pergola with a dining table for 4, a summer kitchen and a BBQ. A little further along is a pool and a patio garden with double deck chair, 2 outdoor showers and additional table and bench seating. The primary and second bedrooms are also both on the ground floor; the primary has a double bed and the second a single bed with a pull out trundle bed, also single. Both have glass doors with terrace access. The main bathroom is just off the hallway and has a large walk-in shower and a double sink. The property is best suited to 3 adults or 2 adults with 2 children.

Dreamy beach vibes. This artfully designed residence is chic and contemporary with whitewashed walls, concrete style floor slabs and warm pastels creating a cool, coastal vibe. Glass doors flood in natural light, and bright pops of color are introduced with bold striped textiles, patterned rugs, chic kitchen units and handpicked art pieces adding character and texture. Outside, beach pad vibes continue with palm trees, pebbles and wooden slat boards set alongside a white washed patio and plunge pool. Wooden pergolas provide striking lines of shade, complimented by striped deckchairs, creating the perfect space to sit back and relax. We love the locally inspired sculptures and artworks dotted around, from the driftwood/glass coffee table and statement ceramics to the beach scene-setting photography.
