Perks for the Parents

Experience peaceful country living at this modern farmhouse in the heart of rural Connecticut, with a heated outdoor pool and dedicated kids playroom. It sleeps 10 + 2. Parents will enjoy exploring this 5-acre property, which boasts 3 acres of flat fenced playing yards, beautiful gardens with vegetables and flowers, and oak years that are several hundreds of years old providing shade and fall foliage. Relax on the patio while kids play in the pool and head outside for alfresco dining on warmer days, or huddle up around the cozy indoor fireplace in the winter months - this is a beautiful, rural retreat for a year-round escape.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love the playroom, which is large, airy, bright and colorful. Toys, games, and books for all ages (babies, toddlers and children under 10) are provided, and there is an art table for crafts as well as a Nugget for reading and lounging. The playhouse is perfect for the little ones to play peek-a-boo, or snuggle with siblings or friends. There are many flat outdoor areas where the children can play sports, draw with chalk, or do science experiments. There’s also the heated outdoor pool for sunny and rainy day activities. For family days out, it’s less than half an hour away from Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo and the Sacred Heart University Science Museum & Planetarium.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. A 15% Connecticut tax will be added to the booking total. Safety notes: there are 2 floors and stairgates are provided. The first floor rooms (family room, kitchen, library, living room) have pocket doors for easy monitoring of the little ones. The pool is fully fenced with a gate and is directly accessible from the house. There are a few steps down from the house into the backyard and pool area so younger children should be supervised at all times. Car rental is essential and there is ample space for parking. The property also has a barn that is currently empty but is not available to guests as the stairs to the loft space are open.

About the Location

The house can be reached by a single road with only a handful of houses, located in deep nature and woodland in Redding, Connecticut. It’s approximately a 1.5 hour drive from New York City, which makes it a perfect destination for city dwellers looking for a weekend escape. Nearby you’ll find a variety of farms including the very famous Christmas tree farm (Maple Row, 8 minutes’ drive), Silverman's animal farm and produce, and CT's best ice cream, Ferris Acres. There are many child-friendly parks and a library just 10-15 minutes away. Hartford is 1 hour 15 minutes away; beaches are around half an hour away.

Accommodation Details

The house has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. On the main floor, you’ll find a family room, library, living room and kitchen with a breakfast bar and family-sized dining area. Upstairs, the spacious primary bedroom has a kingsize bed and a separate shower, soaking tub and baby bath tub. It also boasts a terrace that overlooks the pool and back acreage of the property. Two of the guest bedrooms have bunk beds and one of those rooms also has a full sized crib and matching changing table/dresser from Pottery Barn Kids. The in-law suite is ideal for visiting relatives or a nanny/au pair, fitted with a queensize bed and an ensuite bathroom. There is a playroom in a mid-level floor between the first and second floors next to the in law suite. The second floor can be accessed via the main staircase or through the dining area.

Style Notes

Modern country house. Bright and cozy, this house has warm color schemes with rustic accents in the rooms to create a relaxing yet stylish rural abode. Design touches add a sense of contemporary flair, such as the exposed brick floor in the kitchen and the charming wallpaper in the bedrooms. We love the old stone fireplace in the living room, the exposed wooden beams in the kitchen and the traditional boarded exterior.
