Perks for the Parents

A newly-built eco home in a world-class position on the coast of Porthcurno, Cornwall with stunning sea views. It sleeps 12 + 2. This home is perfect for parents who want to bask in the sun and enjoy the outdoors: the gardens were designed by one of the premier landscape architects in Cornwall and boasts a sun-trap courtyard garden at the front and a huge infinity lawn at the back, with seamless views over the sea, a full-width patio, outdoor seating, a heated shower and Adirondack chairs. Those spectacular views are present all around the house, with the alternative vistas looking out over green rolling fields. With space to share between 2 or 3 families, as well as luxurious new interiors and a prime location, this has to be one of the most desirable places to spend your family holiday.

Why Kids Love it

The house has plenty of toys, games and books for children under 10. The living room is large enough for playing or for the whole family to relax in front of the TV and there’s even a separate playroom on the upper floor with a single day bed, TV and pretty sea views to inspire little ones. The twin bedrooms and the kingsize guest room have black-out lining on the curtains to ensure a good night’s sleep. The twin bedrooms are perfect for kids to share (or for those traveling with a nanny or au pair) and they’ll love playing games outside on the large lawn or the patio area. It’s an easy walk to the beach where you’ll find spectacular rocky coves with golden sand and glistening turquoise waters.

Safety notes: the lawn is dog-proofed. There are a couple of steps in the main living area and to the downstairs twin bedrooms, bathroom and shower room and in the upstairs primary bedroom. There is a large, wide staircase to the first floor with no stair gate. The host suggests the house is suitable for children aged 2 and up. The house has underfloor heating throughout. About the Location

The house is located in Porthcurno, on the western tip of Cornwall. This beautiful location is overlooking the sea, within walking distance of Porthchapel Beach, Porthcurno Beach, Pednvounder Beach and the Minack Gardens and amphitheater (where you can watch children’s shows). Easy access to the South West Coastal Path allows for long walks along the coast in both directions, while a short drive will take you to Land’s End (the most westerly point of the UK mainland), the Merry Maidens Stone Circle, Mousehole or Penzance, where there is a train station (all less than half an hour away). The larger town of St Ives (for the Tate St Ives) is 45 minutes’ drive and Newquay airport is around 1.5 hours away, for domestic flights within the UK. Exeter international airport is 2.5 hours away.

Style Notes

Coastal contemporary. This beautiful beach home references its coastal location throughout, with a strong presence of white, sand and blue tones and large windows in all directions to frame the sea views and create a sense of the outdoors, indoors. Set in approximately an acre of land, the huge home is finished with natural materials and neutral tones for a ‘barefoot luxury’ feel. Characterful oak timbers and a cast iron wood burning stove make for a cozy living room, while the Shaker-style kitchen is finished with tactile carrera marble countertops, 2 dishwashers, a Quooker boiling water top and a drinks fridge for added luxury. The dining area is flooded with light, due to the glazing and a large lantern skylight above the whole area - perfect for long and leisurely family meals. We love the clever integrated storage around the fireplace, the stylish front porch with a sun-ray style wooden door and the subtle beach-themed artwork.

Jess has been coming to this area in Cornwall (her mum was born and brought up in Penzance) for her whole life and absolutely loves it. Jake and Jess had been looking for somewhere to buy for years and finally found this place in 2017. They fell in love with the location immediately and rebuilt the house completely at the start of 2022. They love that it's a haven away from London (where they live most of the time) for them and their 4 kids.
