Perks for the Parents

Stay right on the sands at this quirky beach house, located on the dunes of the Atlantic Coast in the popular surfing region of Costa da Caparica. It sleeps 6 + 1. The house is literally on the beach, just 50 meters from the sea (depending on the tide) with sandy surroundings. You’ll be protected by the dunes for privacy and yet there’s plenty of space for kids to play freely while you enjoy a book or cook on the BBQ to the sounds of the ocean.

Why Kids Love it

The beach is an endless playground! Kids will find it amazing to wake up with the sand right outside the door. They can build sand castles, splash in the waves, play with the beach toys or slide down the hills of the dunes on body boards. Nearby there are surf schools, skate schools and paddleboarding lessons for older kids and teens, as well as a trampoline park 15 minutes away by car.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 nights. The hosts also own the top floor of this property, which is completely separate and private. The host may occasionally be staying in the top floor residence. Parking is available at the public car park on the street (150m away) and car rental is recommended. Lisbon airport is around half an hour away. Beach towels, linens and bath towels are included. The host can recommend surf classes, surf board rental or yoga sessions on request (for an additional fee).

About the Location

The house is located just 20 minutes south of Lisbon on the Caparica coast. This area is known for its miles of white sandy beaches, stretching from Praia da Cova do Vapor (15 minutes’ drive) down to Praia das Bicas (45 minutes’ drive). The area of Costa da Caparica is a protected coastal nature reserve with fossil cliffs, forest trails and beautiful sunset views. There are a selection of beach bars and restaurants within walking distance and it’s a short drive to supermarkets and other amenities.

Accommodation Details

The house has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, set on the ground floor. The primary bedroom has a double bed, while the second bedroom has 2 single beds (that can be set up as a double on request). There is also 1 double sofabed in the living room for extra guests and 1 travel crib. You’ll find an open plan kitchen/dining/living area, leading to a small shower room. Outside there’s shaded dining areas, a hammock and a kitchenette.

Style Notes

Rustic simplicity. The house is compact and basic, but has all the equipment you’ll need for a comfortable stay. The decor is clean and with some vintage furniture and an old radio player for music. There's also a TV if you can bear to miss the wonderful sunset outside. We love the beach-inspired artwork, the retro mint green fridge and the rustic chunky wooden dining table.

Costa da Caparica, Lisbon

Endless beaches and waves to ride

A stone’s throw from Lisbon, the Costa da Caparica has endless beaches, mellow beach bars and plenty of surf clubs ready to teach you how to ride the waves. Build sandcastles on the main beach, eat fresh seafood in beachfront restaurants or take a day trip to the city to ride trams and seek out custard tarts.

We really enjoyed our 5 day stay at this lovely beach property. David was attentive in his communication during the booking process and helpful and clear in providing us with the necessary information prior to arrival. We loved the proximity of the property to Lisbon and Sintra where we also spent some time, the beach and beach clubs, and the many lovely towns in and around it. We particularly enjoyed Buya Beach next door! The kids loved the dunes for playing in and we really were just able to forget the world and unwind while there. My personal favourite things during our stay were morning coffees and sun bathing on the back terrace where the sun shines almost all day, while my little one played with the toys from the trunk we discovered there on the terrace, as well as ordering take out from the little bistro at the small parking lot closest to the entrance of the house, serving Portuguese barbecue and the local fish was excellent. Husband and teenager loved the hammock! The house itself is humble and has all the amenities that are needed including a well stocked kitchen, television with Netflix and a good WiFi signal. Happy and looking forward to returning one day!
