Perks for the Parents

This beautiful family home in the upcoming Baarsjes area of Amsterdam is right beside a playground and includes a roof terrace and bikes so you can explore the city like a local. Set up with a big kitchen, guests can comfortably cook for their family. The main living space is open to the kitchen and includes a lounge, dining table and study area. The hosts can lend guests their 2 bikes with child seats so you can browse around in Amsterdam like a local. Bike helmets can be easily rented around the corner of the house, as well as more bikes if needed. There is no TV in the house, but instead there is fast internet with WiFi on all floors of the house as well as an interactive television account, Spotify account, Netflix account and Sonos.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of toys and books for babies and toddlers, and lots of storage which means the parents can enjoy a stylish house when the kids are asleep. There is a step, mini bike and mini car. Two high chairs are included. Right in front of the house, there is a child safe playground and within walking distance there are several parks and a children's farm. The hosts can provide a list with bars and restaurants suitable for a visit with young kids, as well as other great things to do with the family. All bedrooms have blinds as well as curtains so little ones can sleep comfortably in a dark room during the day, if needed.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: flexible - please contact host for details. Safety comes first: all stairs are child safe, all door handles are placed vertical to prevent the little ones (under 3 years) opening the doors themselves. All electric points and kitchen drawers are child safe. The roof terrace has, besides the legally-approved metal fence, an additional bamboo fence of 140cm high to prevent little ones climbing out. On request the hosts can supply a baby bath and an additional (third) good quality (travel) crib. Normally, the house is cleaned on a weekly base; the hosts will agree with you on how to arrange cleaning during your stay to make your visit as comfortable as you want. Car rental is not advised - public transport and cycling are the best ways to get around the city itself.

About the Location

The residence is in the Baarsjes area of the city, 10 minutes from Dam square and 5 minutes from the Jordaan. Less crowded than the center, it is one of the upcoming neighborhoods in the city and there is plenty to do nearby. There are 3 big parks with walking distance, as well as many shops and grocery stores, bars and restaurants, and a children's farm. From Schiphol airport, it is only 15 minutes by taxi and 30 minutes by public transportation to the house.

Accommodation Details

This 3-story design apartment includes a child-safe roof terrace. From the main entrance on the first floor, you enter the spacious (shared) staircase where strollers can be stored. The apartment is entered on the second floor and has a spacious living room with open kitchen on the third floor, with a big 6-burner stove, lots of storage and all herbs and spices you can imagine. There is also a toilet and a study on this floor. The fourth floor has a bathroom with big bath, separate walk-in shower, toilet and 2 sinks, plus the master bedroom with kingsize bed and crib. There is a second bedroom, set up with a crib, a changer, a closet and lots of toys. The spacious roof terrace with olive trees, lounging area, dining table and barbecue is reached from this floor. The recently renovated fifth floor has a third bedroom with a small double bed and closet, plus a separate washing area with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Style Notes

Modern Scandinavian. The hosts love to combine contemporary and vintage design classics and have created a space that is great for adults and children alike. The wooden shutters on the third floor and all the lighting throughout with dimmer switches helps you to easily create the atmosphere you want. White walls, neutral tones and well-chosen showpiece artwork and sculptures makes it original and calming. We love the cookbook display in the kitchen, the mid-century modern sideboard and the roof terrace.

Nice to meet you! I grew up in the south of Holland, my wife in Merida, Venezuela. We have a son Ilay (2014) and a daughter Flo (2017). We love meeting people, especially from other cultures / countries. Since 20 years we live and work in Amsterdam, which is besides the traveling, our most favorite city after all. We would love to welcome you and give you the best experience of Amsterdam possible. Looking forward to host you!

Frank's home was just as described - clean, spacious and lots of toys! We enjoyed the location and exploring the nearby parks on the two bikes (with child seats) that he let us use. There are a lot of steep stairs, but this is common in Amsterdam and did not prove to be a problem for us. There is a grocery just a few minutes walk away and the nearest tram is conveniently located just a 10 min walk away as well. We loved our stay here in Amsterdam!

De Baarsjes, Amsterdam

The hip melting pot

Just west of Oud-West, this multicultural, up-and-coming neighborhood is close to Vondelpark and 10 minutes from the city center by bicycle. Popular among college students, artists, and young professionals, De Baarsjes is filled with art centers and green spaces. Take a picnic lunch to Rembrandtpark, explore the open-air market on Vespuccistraat, or visit art galleries along Witte de Withstraat.
