The Ocean View Residence
Perks for the Parents
Escape to this ocean view cottage nestled among the Torrey Pines in beautiful Del Mar, just a short walk from beach. It sleeps 6. This quiet, walkable and residential neighborhood has great access to all of the greater San Diego destinations while being in a quaint beach town providing incredible surfing, golf, tennis and biking opportunities. There’s also easy and delicious dining options nearby, plus shopping boutiques, so you won’t need to drive around for meals or essentials if you don’t want to. The house has plenty of games and puzzles and is all on one level making it easy to keep an eye on little ones and stay connected.
Why Kids Love it
The home is welcoming for children of all ages. Teenagers will love biking into town and surfing at nearby beaches, while small children will enjoy the family-friendly beaches of Del Mar (the local Del Mar beaches are wide with soft sand and a wonderful playground that the kids will love) and Torrey Pines. Torrey Pines Visitor Center is 10 minutes’ drive for curious kids to find out about this beautiful nature reserve. Bikes, surfboards, boogie boards and beach toys are all available. For family days out, it’s centrally located between major attractions like Legoland and Seaworld and San Diego Zoo.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 30 nights. Price is dependent on duration and time of year. The property is perched on a hill accessed by stairs from street level. The house can be accessed by a private alley that connects to a driveway for direct vehicular access. There are many exterior doors for indoor/outdoor living which can be locked for safety. Washer and dryer available. It’s less than half an hour to the center of San Diego city.
About the Location
The house is located in the Del Mar neighborhood of San Diego. You’ll find easy access to the 5 and 805 highways as well as a pedestrian-friendly area with a ‘small beach town’ atmosphere. Within a couple of blocks you’ll have access to hiking at the magnificent Torrey Pines State Park and the quieter Torrey Pines Reserve, as well as access through the "secret" passage to surfing at Torrey Pines Beach. From the home, guests can hear both the sounds of birds and the rolling waves, and from the shore you can see dolphins in the break. Sunsets are particularly gorgeous here, and the lack of street lights in Olde Del Mar means clear skies which are perfect for stargazing.
Accommodation Details
The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over one level. You’ll find an open plan living/dining/kitchen area, surrounded by multi-aspect windows. One of the bedrooms opens entirely to the living/dining/kitchen area. One bedroom has a double; the second has a twin; the third can be set up as a queen or 2 twins. There are two full bathrooms: one with a tub/shower combo the other with a shower only. Outside, there’s a cozy courtyard as well as an ample flat grassy yard.
Style Notes
Monochrome Mid-Century. Clean, crisp home surrounded by unique Torrey Pine trees, lush foliage and canyon. The house itself has been lovingly upgraded and expanded by the hosts, who have maintained the cozy character of the original 1960's home balanced with terrific open spaces with great volume, flow, and light. Warmth is added through natural woods, stones and expansive canyon views that bring nature inside. We love the soaring 16' ceilings, red cedar textures, and the double height windows showing off those peak ocean views from room to room.
