Perks for the Parents

This recently renovated Florence apartment in an elegant 19th century building overlooks the green square of Piazza d’Azeglio, and is within easy walking distance from the historic center. It is a spacious family-friendly space large enough for two families, with high ceilings and beautiful light, and it makes the perfect base for exploring the city with all the home comforts you’ll need. It sleeps up to 8. This is an ideal apartment for art lovers, readers, creatives and writers, with thousands of books on all topics and in many languages, and a desk in each room for working and writing. Soak in the tub after a long day sightseeing or relax and dine on the covered terrace overlooking gardens, houses and the hills beyond.

Why Kids Love it

This apartment is ideal for kids from ages 5 and upward. One of the only playgrounds in central Florence is in the square just downstairs from the flat, which is a great perk for families. Everything is nearby, safe and easy. Kids will love the bedroom, which is accessed by climbing to the mezzanine, with two twin beds. Bookworms will delight in the many children’s books suitable from age 5 to young adult, and there is ample space in the bedroom for them to play, draw, read and relax. The kitchen features a Stokke chair for younger kids as well as kids’ dinnerware and glasses. The living room has a piano and a large screen TV for movie night.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. Please note that the 2 single beds are on the mezzanine, and that access to the staircase is not gated so this apartment is best suited for children 5 years old and up. The apartment offers fast fiber WiFi. The exceptionally tall windows are protected by mosquito screens and there are dimmable lights throughout. The ambient temperature is cool in the summer as the walls are thick, but there is air conditioning if required. The owners ask that guests respect the extensive library and replace books where they find them to maintain the order.

About the Location

This apartment is on the Piazza d'Azeglio, a unique leafy square with a playground that is a 15 minutes’ walk to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The square is at the heart of Firenze Capitale, off the tourist track but very close to the center. You’ll also be within striking distance of the vibrant Sant'Ambrogio market, where you can find pick up local produce, meats, cheeses and other treats for dinner, and the Basilica of Santa Croce, the burial place of Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei and Machiavelli.

Accommodation Details

This apartment has just been renovated and has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is on the 2nd floor of the building with an elevator and is on one level with no stairs (aside from to the children's bedroom with mezzanine). There is a chef’s kitchen that’s fully equipped for family meals with a 6-hob burner and an eat-in dining table seating up to 8. The book-filled living room features a piano, sofa, armchairs and coffee table. The bedrooms are 2 double / full, 1 with a sofabed, and a kids’ room with 2 single / twin beds. The kids’ room is double height with 2 single beds on the upper mezzanine level. One bathroom has a tub as well as a walk-in shower and the other has a walk-in shower. Style Notes

Writer’s retreat. This much-loved architect-designed family home within the buzzing heart of the city is a light and airy space with a décor that blends modern design, warm colors, and Moroccan and Indian textiles and rugs. The 19th century rooms have high ceilings and large windows that let in the sunshine. The bathrooms are newly renovated with pretty tiles and mounted wash basins. The bedrooms are colorful with comfortable organic mattresses on the beds. We love the wooden floors throughout, the views of trees on one side and gardens, houses and hills on the other, and the very convenient location.

Florence, Tuscany

Art, architecture and an antique carousel

Known for its incredible art galleries, architecture and Michelangelo’s David, the capital of Tuscany has plenty for parents with an eye for beauty, and it doesn’t let the younger generation down either. Play hide and seek in Baroque gardens, seek out the best gelateria in the city (you need to test a few to be sure), or ride on the antique carousel in Piazza Repubblica. Take a guided tour of the Uffizi or try a fashion workshop for under 12s at the Gucci Museum. Eat pizza, climb the narrow corridor to the top of the Duomo or buy wooden toys at Bartolucci’s. Then start planning for your return visit.
