The hosts have plenty of books for kids of all ages (as well as adults!). There are magna tiles, Legos and blocks at the house for younger kids, as well as a hammock and fire pit for older kids and teens to chill. Children will love the outdoor space: there’s plenty of room for exploring and a lovely warm pool that gets lots of sun so they can swim all day long. The area is also great for teenagers who need a little freedom, with tennis courts in the local park and family-friendly restaurants close by. Parents with babies or toddlers can ask the hosts for a baby monitor, changing mat, high chair, pack-n-play and plastic cups and dinnerware.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Safety notes: the entire backyard is fenced in and the pool is gated (upon request). The saltwater pool (with reverse osmosis water filtration system) is heated and kept at 88 degrees during winter months. Car rental is not strictly essential as there is plenty within walking distance; however there is space to park 2 cars. Cars are only allowed to be parked in the driveway or carport. (Cars are not allowed to be parked in the street and can be subject to fines by the city). No parties and no pets - this is a quiet, residential neighborhood and hours of quiet should be observed from 10pm to 7am. The house has air conditioning, a laundry room with washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV and WiFi. A fantastic babysitter and housekeeper is available on request. The hosts offer 2 adult sized tricycles that have baskets in the back (for carrying groceries or children).

Style Notes

Mid century meets Shibui. The Japanese style of simple, unobtrusive beauty known as ‘Shibui’ is the guiding influence for the interior of this home. The hosts have decorated the house in calming colors to create a relaxed environment for the eye, as well as the body. There’s an emphasis on artistry and original art, as well as thoughtfully-selected furniture pieces in vintage and new designs. We love the tropical terracotta patio around the pool, the laid-back wicker furniture and the peachy sweet sorbet tones in the second bathroom.

I was born in Fort Lauderdal and lived there for most of my life. For the past 9 years I have been living in NYC with my husband. We have two young kids and enjoy adventures with them, traveling, good food and yoga.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Alligator cruises, butterflies and sandy beaches

Thirty minutes north of Miami, Fort Lauderdale is known for its beaches, art and culture. Take the kids on a trip to the Everglades for life-long memories; explore Coconut Creek’s Butterfly World - the third largest in the world - and explore the many, many things to do with kids nearby, from the Boomers amusement park and the Riverwalk to a reconstruction of an 18th century native American village. Or you could just play on the beach...

We had a wonderful stay! So many toys and books for kids, the pool is awesome, and it was wonderful not having to pack a crib and other essentials. The house is awesome and my two young boys, husband, and I were so comfortable and happy there. I hope we can come visit again!

We were looking for a family-friendly spring getaway to warmer weather and that's exactly what this was. The pool was a fantastic perk (we went in it every day and Laura set up a pool gate as soon as we arrived bc we have small kids) and the outdoor area in general was great for everything from a mid-afternoon workout during nap time to dinners outside. Location is great too as you're walking distance to a few restaurants and a playground in a lower-key part of Ft. Lauderdale. We will definitely be back!
